The location.
Great downtown location if you want something close to the action within walking distance.
The location was excellent. I was within walking distance of most of my activities in Vicksburg: 2 blocks away from the Church where the wedding took place, across the street from the party, three blocks from the rehearsal dinner -- all at Vicksburg lan

The indoor pool and the friendly staff along with location and i can't forget the microwave has been a big deal in most upscale hotels.

AC unit is the ubiquitous p-tac conditioner and these are generally poor performers in removing moisture from the air. This one worked well.

It was lovely and staff was great
Good location to downtown historic district. Not crowded (think we were only ones there). Large grounds with plenty of room. Third floor balcony had nice view.
The "old"-ness of it, all the antiques, the style... so beautiful and still so comfortable. I loved the squeaky old stairs, all the levels, the balcony porches, the rooftop, and the history of the property.

Top Tips
- Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) is the closest major airport, with a 55-75 minute drive (45-50 mi) to Vicksburg. Car rentals are the main transit option, as public transportation between JAN and Vicksburg is limited. For arrivals after 20:00, verify your rental car company’s desk hours, and check if your hotel offers shuttle services or partners with local car services for late arrivals.
- Riverfront hotels are within a 5-15 minute walk of the Vicksburg National Military Park and downtown attractions, making sightseeing accessible. Hotels along I-20 are usually $20-$40 lower per night but are 5-10 minutes farther by car from main sites. Explore local dining or sunset views from riverfront properties, and compare your savings to schedule needs before booking.
- July and August average highs of 90-95°F with high humidity make midday sightseeing uncomfortable. Schedule outdoor visits to the National Military Park or riverwalk before 10:00 or after 16:00, and bring water and sun protection, as shade is limited. Take advantage of hotel afternoon amenities such as pools or air-conditioned common spaces to rest during peak heat.
- During Memorial Day, Independence Day, and major National Military Park events, Vicksburg hotels experience high demand. Book 6-8 weeks ahead to secure availability; for other periods, 1-2 weeks’ advance booking is usually sufficient. Check for free cancellation options in case your plans change due to event crowds, and verify event schedules with your hotel for any traffic or parking impacts.
- Historic B&Bs and downtown inns often have stairs and limited elevator access. If you need step-free access, request a ground-floor or elevator-accessible room in writing before arrival and confirm 48 hours prior. National chain hotels in the area typically offer accessible rooms meeting ADA standards—request details at booking if needed; note that visual alarms may not be standard in historic properties.
- Casino hotel rooms may be affected by smoke from gaming floors where smoking is allowed. For a smoke-free stay, request a non-smoking, top-floor, or non-casino-facing room and reconfirm at check-in. Most major non-casino chain hotels are 100% non-smoking by policy; check the smoking policy before booking if this is a priority, and if you are sensitive to smoke, ask about air purification or extra cleaning measures.
- Most chain hotels offer free onsite self-parking. Riverfront public lots can charge $5-$15 per entry, and spaces may be temporarily closed during special events. Free hotel parking in Vicksburg often allows easy evening access to local restaurants or shops, so confirm lot location, operating hours, and event days with your hotel.
- Smaller inns and B&Bs often have limited front desk hours after 20:00. Confirm your late or after-hours check-in needs by email or phone, and request written instructions if arriving late to avoid locked doors or special pickup arrangements. For late-night check-in flexibility, consider national brand hotels with 24-hour front desks.
