Top Tips
- Hotels in downtown Minneapolis fill up quickly during major events like Vikings home games or large conventions, so booking 60 to 120 days ahead can save up to 50% on multi-day stays compared to last-minute pricing. For popular dates, check rates at least three months in advance to avoid steep increases and ensure room availability.
- Metro Transit's Blue Line connects MSP Terminal 1 to downtown Minneapolis in about 25 to 35 minutes for approximately $2 USD one way. This saves visitors $30 to $45 USD per trip compared to taxis or rideshares. For hotels with shuttle services, verify their frequency after 20:00 if arriving late.
- Onsite hotel parking fees in downtown Minneapolis often range from $30 to $45 USD per night. Nearby city ramps can be $15 to $25 USD per day, and using apps like SpotHero may help secure rates about 50% lower for extended stays. Check your hotel's in-and-out privileges if you plan to use your car frequently.
- Many Minneapolis hotels deliver shared Wi-Fi speeds below metro averages. Request details on measured in-room speeds or inquire about 100+ Mbps wired or premium upgrades before booking, especially if you rely on video calls or streaming for work.
- Tap water in Minneapolis is treated to potable standards by Minneapolis Water Works, so it's safe for drinking and brushing teeth. Choosing tap can save approximately $4 to $6 USD per day versus relying on bottled water.
- From November to March, prepare for subzero wind chills in Minneapolis. Add at least 20 to 40 minutes to airport transfers and allow time for potential snow-clearing delays with same-day check-ins or check-outs. Travelers with mobility needs may wish to confirm accessible routes if heavy snowfall is forecast.
- Minneapolis hotels routinely place a pre-authorization hold (incidental deposit) of $50 to $200 USD per stay or per night for premium properties. Request your hotel's policy and hold release timeframe, especially when using a debit card, to avoid cash flow surprises.
- North Loop and Warehouse District hotels sit within a 10 to 20 minute walk of Target Field and most downtown venues, offering easy access to evening dining and Target Center events. For families or travelers with accessibility needs, confirm step-free routes or accessible public transit options.
- Crime rates vary block by block downtown, so consult the Minneapolis Police Department's online crime maps for your exact hotel address. For safety and peace of mind, use well-lit main streets when walking at night and keep valuables secured.
