Helpful staff
Location is great! Loved the lake view. Definitely worth paying a little extra for. Also pool hours are 8am to 12 am. So often you dont use the pool because you arrive after it closes or leave before it opens. Nice breakfast too with the lake view.

Top Tips
- Book summer weekend stays 4 to 6 months ahead for Canal Park hotels, as rates can rise 40-60% with peak 90% occupancy. Many properties in this neighborhood are within a short walk of the waterfront and attractions, providing easy access for families and solo travelers.
- Select hotels east of 26th Avenue East to reduce traffic noise, since properties west of this point average 15-20 dB higher noise from more than 65,000 daily vehicles. Confirm with your chosen property about soundproof windows, especially in historic buildings, as these may vary between midscale and upscale chains.
- Avoid resort fee surcharges by choosing non-destination spa hotels, since four of six full-service Duluth hotels charge $15 to $25 per night in amenity fees. Check the fee breakdown before booking, as select-service hotels often represent better value for most travelers.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed if working remotely, as only 60% of Duluth hotels offer 50 Mbps or higher download speeds, while some rural properties fall below 10 Mbps. Check whether the speed applies to in-room access or only in public areas, and note that some premium chains provide bandwidth upgrades for loyalty members.
- Stay at a hotel within 0.5 miles of the Duluth Depot to save $20 to $28 per night on downtown parking compared to average rates. Consider using chain hotel shuttles and take advantage of the Lakewalk and other points of interest often located within walking distance.
- Request step-free rooms when booking pre-1980 buildings, as only 40% of historic conversions comply with ADA roll-in shower standards despite being listed as accessible. Guests can also confirm visual alarms and tactile signage availability, which some major chains provide as part of their inclusive facility standards.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel front desks to save 3-5% on your foreign-issued card transaction; always choose to pay in USD. If you are unsure, ask about DCC at check-in, as most major chains post signage about conversion options.
- Prioritize hotels with in-room coffee makers during winter, as 78% of guest complaints in December to February reference a lack of 24/7 lobby coffee, which increases risk of cold-weather exposure. Many properties also offer afternoon or evening lobby refreshments, and guests may request extra coffee packets at check-in.
- Avoid peak rates during Grandma’s Marathon weekend in June, when hotel prices spike 65-85%. Stays 5 or more miles from the starting line can save 30-35%, and many outlying hotels provide shuttle service or local transit information for added peace of mind.
- Choose properties with indoor pool access for the winter months, as only 35% of Duluth hotels offer an indoor pool, which is important during cold weather. Pool hours may be seasonal, and checking for ADA pool lift availability is recommended as amenities differ by chain.
- Verify the water source if you are sensitive to iron taste, since Duluth municipal water has 0.3-0.5 mg/L iron, exceeding aesthetic guidelines. Some hotels use reverse osmosis systems, and guests can request bottled or filtered water at the front desk if room taste is a concern.
- Tip housekeeping $2 to $5 per day and leave it discreetly, such as on a pillow or desk with a note. Untipped rooms experience 22% slower service recovery and some hotel chains publish additional tipping guidance in guest information folders.
