Room size.
Room was very nice, large. Very understaffed. 20 people trying to check in at 3:00 with one staff member.

Loved the decor, beds were very comfortable but pillows a bit too fluffy and big. Also, parking in the area is quite limited. Loved the breakfast options and staff was very friendly and helpful.

Location. Convenient to dining options in East Cambridge and to bus and subway transit.
The location was good for us, because of the proximity to our son's house. Otherwise, I would not pick this location.

I liked the location being so close to Harvard. The room was great and fell a notch above what I was expecting.
The bedding (down comforter, great pillows), and the air quality/climate control were outstanding. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, and the bed was actually more comfortable than my bed and home (and I'm fussy). The pool was excellent.
Room service very fast, and extremely polite room service staff. Beleaguered front desk staff dealing with irate guests kept their patience. They need more support from mgmt. Restaurant is good; really good coffee in lobby in early a.m.

Ease of checking in
Excellent hotel and stay, but different, and not in a bad way. All interaction is online. No staff in lobby. You get your key like you live there. I associate hotels with service & hospitality, but here, I was self-sufficient & owned the apartment. Nice
The room was ok and clean. The missing coffee maker was brought after I complained through the app (although packaged and I had to set it up). The location was very convenient.

The location was near my son's apartment. The breakfasts were wonderful. The room and the kitchen were lovely and fully stocked. Everyone was so friendly. I stayed in 6 hotels in 22 days and this by far was the best overall experience.
Kitchen, apartment like setup and proximity to bus stop, grocery shops (target)
The pool was excellent. The breakfast was good but didn't have enough unsweetened options. The room and public spaces were great.

Top Tips
- Book your Somerville hotel 21-30 days ahead to typically get 12-18% lower rates, as prices can rise 15% within 7 days of arrival. When available, choose free cancellation for flexibility.
- When paying with a foreign card, always choose to be charged in USD at the front desk to avoid 3-5% Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees. Some banks may still add fees for international transactions, so check with your card issuer before travel.
- Prioritize hotels within 400 meters of Davis Square for Wi-Fi; 89% of properties there offer reliable 100+ Mbps fiber-based service. For streaming or business needs, verify with the front desk when booking.
- Factor in the total tax and fees: Massachusetts hotel excise tax is 5.7%, Somerville adds 6%, plus a typical $2-$4 daily occupancy fee. Check your final booking summary for the full cost breakdown.
- If you need step-free access or roll-in showers, request these options when booking; only 38% of hotels built before 1980 have these retrofits. Contact your hotel directly for confirmation or special arrangements if further accessibility is required.
- Avoid Boston Marathon week (third Monday in April). Somerville hotel rates rise 35-50% and availability drops 70% during this period. If you must travel during this time, reserve well in advance.
- Consider staying within 500 meters of Tufts University, such as Boston Ave or Curtis St, to cut transit time to Davis and Porter stations by 30%. Use local transit apps or the hotel concierge for up-to-date train and bus schedules.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 USD per night; leave it daily in a labeled envelope, as this is a stronger cultural expectation here than in some tourist areas. Tipping is at your discretion, and tips should be given directly when possible to ensure receipt.
- Choose LEED-certified or Green Lodging properties; they use 25-30% less water via low-flow fixtures, which is especially helpful during summer peak demand. Support sustainability by reusing towels and using onsite recycling programs when available.
- Carry a reusable water bottle. Somerville tap water meets all EPA standards, and most hotels will provide tap water at onsite dining venues or refill bottles upon request, though 90% still sell bottled water.
- Verify power reliability during Nor’easter season (December-February); 12% of outages in Somerville affect Davis Square hotels during major winter storms. Ask about backup generators or emergency protocols at check-in, especially if you rely on electronic devices.
- If you have Marriott Bonvoy status, stack it with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for eligible properties to achieve a 25-40% effective discount through upgrades and benefits. Confirm eligibility and benefit availability at booking, as programs and participation may vary by property.
