Nothing. It was noisy in the room, you could hear noise from the hallway, mold under the lip of the sink, and when you stepped in the shower it sounded like you could fall through the floor. This is NOT a 3 star hotel!

Honestly, the fridge wasn¿t a terrible size.
Clearly this hotel has recently been renovated. I was afraid of what I was going to be in for when I read some of the reviews which must have been prior to renovations. Overall, nice quiet room, good bed and breakfast. Great location!

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 21-30 days ahead to secure 12-18% lower rates. In Bloomington, stays booked 21-30 days pre-arrival average 15% less than those reserved less than 7 days out. Early booking is widely accepted at all major hotel chains.
- Save on parking by selecting hotels along Veterans Parkway, where rates are $15-$20 less per night than downtown Bloomington properties and often include free parking. Downtown hotels typically charge $15-$18 daily. Veterans Parkway locations are accessible for both leisure and business travelers, and free parking adds convenience for families or travelers with accessibility needs. Verify parking policies in advance, as amenities can vary.
- If you need to work remotely, confirm Wi-Fi speeds before arrival. Mid-tier hotel chains in Bloomington average 35-50 Mbps, with IHG and Marriott properties reporting a median of 42 Mbps (download), which is sufficient for video calls. You can request an in-room speed test from the front desk if you require a stable connection.
- At southside hotels near I-55, requesting a room away from the interstate (rear, north, or west-facing) can reduce nighttime noise. Front-facing rooms report 55-68 dB, compared to 48 dB or less at the back. Specify your room location preference when booking for a quieter stay.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel terminals when using foreign cards. DCC typically adds a 5-7% markup. Always opt to pay in USD to minimize extra fees.
- During Illinois State University events, use the Redbird Express shuttle to bypass parking challenges. The free shuttle runs 7:00-10:00 daily and connects downtown hotels to campus in under 12 minutes. The shuttle is accessible for guests with mobility needs.
- Older hotels may lack elevators or compliant ramps, and 38% of Bloomington hotels built before 1985 do not offer step-free room access. Confirm accessible routes to your room when booking, especially if you require mobility accommodations, a stroller, or a wheelchair.
- Bloomington tap water meets all EPA standards and is fluoridated; it passed all 98 water quality tests in 2022 and has had no advisories in five years. Carry a refillable bottle to avoid purchasing bottled water unnecessarily.
- Standard housekeeping tips in Bloomington are $2-$5 per day, left daily in an envelope. Tip in cash each day so the correct staff receive appreciation for their service.
- Stack IHG or Marriott points with AAA rates to see an average 10-15% discount. IHG Rewards with AAA yields about 12% off standard rates, while Marriott Bonvoy stacks save 10-13%. Confirm eligible member benefits when booking, as combining rates is common when booking direct or through approved partners.
- During Illinois High School Association tournaments (November-February), onsite hotel restaurant wait times can reach 40-60 minutes, especially at venues such as Uptown Plaza Crowne Plaza. Many nearby restaurants are accessible within a short walk or drive from major hotels, so consider offsite dining or reserve early during state-level events.
- Sustainable travel options in Bloomington include 14 hotels with Green Key or Green Seal certifications; these properties use 22-30% less water and 18% less energy compared to non-certified peers. Look for certification icons when booking online to help reduce your environmental impact.
