Most staff were wonderful and very accommodating. The layout of the building, abundance of parking, and the suites were very nicely allocated and well-designed. It felt more luminous than a 2.5 star hotel (as listed).

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 45-90 days before event weekends, as inventory shrinks and rates can rise within 6-8 weeks of major island events like the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival (early May) and Amelia Island Concours (spring). This proactive timing helps secure preferred accommodation and rates; verify cancellation terms if plans may change.
- Use Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) as your main air hub. Expect a 40-50 minute drive, about 35 miles, to Fernandina Beach; hotel car services, taxis, and rideshares are widely available. Confirm your pickup time during peak arrival hours.
- Expect resort and parking fees at top Amelia Island hotels. Properties like The Ritz-Carlton and Omni Amelia Island Plantation typically add $20-$45 per day for these services; include these in your total trip budget. Confirm whether parking is self-serve, valet, or includes in-and-out privileges.
- Request an accessible room or one on the ground or first floor if mobility is a concern, as many downtown historic inns do not have elevators and hallways can be narrow. Ask about step-free access or ramp availability prior to booking.
- Bring mosquito protection May-October, as proximity to marshlands increases bite risk after rain. Use EPA-registered repellent and consider wearing long sleeves when outdoors near the water, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Review cancellation and force majeure policies if visiting June-November, as hurricane season peaks August-October. For flexibility, consider refundable rates or add travel insurance that covers named storms.
- Downtown Fernandina Beach is walkable, with most shops and restaurants within a 5-15 minute walk. Municipal lots and on-street parking have time and overnight restrictions, so verify your hotel’s parking options and policies before arrival.
- If planning remote work, confirm the property’s Wi-Fi bandwidth before booking. Independent inns and smaller motels on the island may have variable speeds; request the Mbps rating or guarantee for your intended use.
- Compare historic downtown inns with large resorts: per-night rates downtown are often lower and place you close to Centre Street dining, while resorts like Ritz-Carlton or Omni offer pools, spas, and beach access - but factor in daily resort and parking fees. Review total costs and included amenities before booking.
