location & staff
The proximity to Canyon Express chairlift is terrific. You walk out the door of the motel fully dressed for skiing, and within five minutes you arrive at the base of the lift. No need to drive. Also the bar/restaurant downstairs is popular.

The location was beautiful! It is right on the lake, close to town, but not right in the busy-ness. The staff were great! The lodge has a great history, they were celebrating their 100th anniversary.

I liked the location in town and the proximity to Yosemite. and it was quiet, no party in the hotel room shenigans from the guests. I was able to get some sleep. The coffee in the lobby was nicely balanced, it was not burnt and was always warm.

Top Tips
- Secure Yosemite Valley lodging by booking 6 to 9 months in advance for peak season (June-September), as rooms typically sell out quickly. Availability drops over 90% within 30 days of arrival. For last-minute stays, compare off-park options in nearby towns.
- Expect a 20-35% lodging tax on park accommodations, which includes Mariposa County’s transient occupancy tax and a concession fee. Confirm your total costs before booking to avoid surprises at check-in.
- For remote work, prioritize visitor centers where wired Ethernet averages 25-40 Mbps. Wi-Fi at park lodges is usually limited to 3-6 Mbps. Verify availability during high season as public space demand may increase.
- If you require accessible or step-free rooms, reserve at Curry Village or Rush Creek Lodge and confirm availability early. Only 12% of Yosemite Valley rooms have verified step-free access. Contact hotel staff directly for current options.
- To avoid dynamic currency conversion fees of 4-7%, select USD at check-in if offered. For international cards, ask how the final amount will be charged before authorizing payment.
- Carry $40-$60 cash for park shuttles and trail permits, as some transit providers or lottery systems require exact change. Not all payment systems in the region accept cards.
- Filter all tap water before drinking, as Yosemite’s water carries Giardia risk below high-use areas. Bottled water is available for $3–$5 per liter in park markets if you do not have a filtration system.
- Consider staying in Mariposa or Groveland to save $120-$180 nightly compared to inside the park. Factor in an added 25-45 minute drive plus park entrance lines, especially during peak morning hours.
- Tip housekeeping $5-$10 per day in a sealed envelope to support staff and help ensure room restocking during supply shortages. Service levels may vary based on occupancy and pandemic protocols.
- Book Yosemite campsites via recreation.gov exactly 30 days before arrival at 7:00 AM PT. Over 80% of reservable sites are typically gone within 8 minutes in summer. Set up your account and payment method in advance for the best chance.
