The staff is kind. Hotel employee does a great job with the breakfast offering during the week. Offered a refund when we arrived, internet was temporarily down. We stayed anyways. Internet back on the next morning. Easy peasy to get to the Burbank airport.

Amazing and welcoming staff, cleaniness
Very close to universal studios. They say it¿s a 12 minute walk. However you better be a fast walker and ready to walk up a steep hill at the end of the walk. We ended up renting a $8 Uber because we were going to be walking all day.
El Royale Gardens was great! Very pleasant greetings from the staff; room was wonderful. Clean, nicely decorated and location, parking excellent. Hollywood memories combined with modern touches. Romantic, nostalgique, as the French say! We'll be back!!

Conveniently located off the freeway. Also, the gated parking and the fact that they were able to waive the security deposit. The second time was ideal.

Only the location
I thought this hotel was great, but I had realistic expectations. For the price point, its remarkable. The location is awesome. You can walk a block and shop at Whole Foods. You can walk .2 miles to a Starbucks, Rodeo Dr etc
The room was clean and livable, and the TV and WiFi worked well. The room clearly had lots of coats-of-paint to keep dressing it up and maybe hide some aging secrets.

Top Tips
- Book Van Nuys hotels 30-45 days in advance to unlock median savings of 21% outside major event periods such as Grammy Week (January-February) and peak summer (July-August). For top hotel chains, advance booking also improves room availability for specific preferences or accessible room types.
- Always confirm the final rate includes all taxes when booking in Van Nuys; the 14.25% total occupancy tax (10% LA County plus 4.25% City Surcharge) can be underquoted by some online travel agencies. Ask for a full cost breakdown from the hotel at booking or check your confirmation email for tax disclosure details.
- Prioritize hotels within 400 meters of Metro G Line (Bus Rapid Transit) stations along Van Nuys Boulevard, such as the Van Nuys Metrolink or Woodman Ave stations. This can reduce average trip times to Burbank Airport by 18-22 minutes during morning peak hours, which is ideal for guests needing fast airport connections.
- Request a room facing away from the I-405 or Sherman Way to minimize noise exposure, as road traffic generates 68-74 dBA overnight on east/west-facing sides. Hotels with sound-rated windows (STC 30+) receive 30% fewer noise complaints; ask about window ratings if quiet is a priority.
- At independent motels like Van Nuys Inn or Palm Tree Lodge, using cash avoids $15 per night digital processing fees; cash bookings also secure the published base rate. Large hotel chains typically include all fees in online quotes, but always verify the total at check-in.
- Verify Wi-Fi speed with the front desk if dependable remote work is needed; only 38% of Van Nuys hotels advertise speeds above 50 Mbps. Major chains often meet or exceed this threshold; request the speed test result on arrival if this is important for your stay.
- Choose hotels with onsite parking to save $15 to $18 per day versus metered street parking. Onsite lots can reduce weekly parking costs by $80 to $110. For electric vehicle drivers, check in advance if charging stations are available, as offerings may vary by property.
- During Santa Ana wind events (October-March), avoid hotels north of Nordhoff Street due to potential 30-50% increases in PM2.5 from wildfire smoke; south-facing mid-rise hotels usually feature better air filtration. If you have respiratory concerns, request a high-floor, south-facing room and verify air quality measures with hotel staff.
- Opt for Green Seal-certified hotels in June-September drought months, as these properties, such as SpringHill Suites Van Nuys, use 25-30% less water with low-flow fixtures. Sustainability-conscious guests can inquire at check-in about a hotel’s conservation initiatives.
- Explicitly request step-free access when booking, since 60% of Van Nuys lodging was built pre-1980 and only 22% of budget motels have elevators or direct ground-floor entrances. For accessible features, confirm your request in writing before arrival to prevent any check-in challenges.
- Always pay in USD at the front desk and decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC); DCC adds a 3.2-5.8% markup over standard credit card exchange rates (1.0-1.5%). Top international hotel chains in Van Nuys accept major credit cards and should disclose DCC terms at payment, so ask if offered.
- Check if your hotel provides free, scheduled shuttle service to Van Nuys Airport (VNY), as 7 of 14 mid-tier hotels offer complimentary shuttles with a maximum 10-minute wait. After 8 PM, wait times may exceed 45 minutes; verify shuttle schedule and pre-book if your arrival is late.
