Fell in love with this hotel. Pay the extra money for the large balcony, you won't be dissapointed! We had a ball here and the staff was amazing! Total hidden gym, especially if you like cool, old hotels.

It was a bare bones option. Small rooms with a communal restroom. The listing did advertise having microwaves in each room which it did not.
All the staff were kind, caring, and respectful. All the bathrooms were kept clean and the area was very quaint. Also, it was a plus to park free. We had an overall very pleasant stay at Ocean Park hotel! Grateful to have been there.

Good serviceable, reasonably clean hotel. Not a 4 star.
Closeness to beach
The staff. The parking op...supposedly separate from the hotel sucks. The "valet" drove off with our car & luggage; they couldn't find our keys - he hadn't given us a card. I wasted 3 hours looking for the car & luggage and arguing with dimwits.

The location was perfect if you can deal with noise. It?s on a very busy road at peer entrance. I didn?t mind it. The room was decent albeit small. The view was excellent.

Staff attention to detail
everything was amazing, however I did find it a bit unusual but mostly humorous, that the housekeeping went through all my toiletries and organized them on counter for me. Im not mad and I don't have any problems, it was simply put kind of hilarious.

A 1920's Spanish Revival building that was formerly apartment residences. Every room or suite is unique, furnished in a bohemian-chic style. The place has authentic architectural detail, lovely grounds, a limited but delightful menu.

When you walk into the hotel the view of the beach is breath taking. The lobby offers a stunning view of the pacific.
First class property, clean and ideally located. You can¿t help but to relax and enjoy yourself in this property. You pay a lot to stay here I struggle to say it¿s worth it though. Next time I¿ll try a different property just to compare! Ha

The location was amazing!!! I didn’t have a car to park so it made it even better. The brick wall inside the room and windows were beautiful.
This hotel is the epitome of everything of what I would want and a hotel including the price. I mean, price can go down always for better. But --- right on the beach is amazing.

Top Tips
- Book at least 4-8 weeks in advance for beachside hotels during summer or holidays, since Santa Monica rooms fill quickly. When booking, confirm the full price—city transient occupancy tax, resort, and parking fees can add over 15% to your total. Major chains may also require prepayment or a deposit for peak stays.
- Valet parking at Santa Monica hotels typically costs $30-$70 per night; some chains include in/out privileges, but not all. Hotels within 0.5 miles of the Metro E Line or key bus routes let you explore car-free. Consider using citywide bike rentals or walking to the pier to avoid parking hassles and LAX traffic.
- Confirm which amenities—like Wi-Fi speed, breakfast, or beach towels—are included before arrival, as policies differ by brand or booking channel. For a quieter stay, request rooms away from elevators or on higher floors. Travelers needing accessibility should inquire about step-free or ramp access when booking.
- In Santa Monica hotels, tip bellhops $1-$2 per bag, valet $2-$5 when your car is returned, and housekeeping $3-$5 per night. Leave tips daily, as staff shifts vary. Restaurant gratuity is typically 15-20% and may not be included on your bill unless dining with groups of 6 or more.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and a major credit card for check-in—most Santa Monica hotels don’t accept debit or digital IDs for incidentals. Many hotels welcome pets (fees of $50-$150 may apply) and have designated smoking areas. Confirm property-specific policies, and inquire about accessibility features if needed.
- Most hotels feature in-room safes (often laptop-sized) and CCTV in common areas. Use them for valuables and keep items out of sight in parked cars, as break-ins can occur near the beach. Many properties enforce quiet hours after 22:00, and some use keycard-access elevators for added guest safety.
- Ask the front desk or concierge about bike rentals (e.g., Santa Monica Bike Center), surf lessons, or the best sunset spots on Santa Monica Pier. Downtown’s Wednesday and Sunday farmers’ markets are within a 10-minute walk of major hotels. Check hours in advance.
- Bring a hat, sunscreen, and reusable water bottle. Most hotels rent or loan towels and can recommend umbrella or chair rentals (look for Perry’s Cafe locations on the beach). Santa Monica beaches ban smoking and glass bottles, with fines enforced, and you should always follow lifeguard flags for water safety.
- Report any room issues to hotel staff promptly—ideally within 1 hour of check-in for the best chance of a resolution or room change. Photograph any unresolved problems. Many hotels offer 24/7 guest services for support and dispute documentation.
- Solo guests seeking safety should choose centrally located hotels along Ocean Avenue or near the Third Street Promenade and Metro station. Families can request connecting rooms or suites and check for heated pools. Business travelers should confirm reliable in-room Wi-Fi and request accessible workspaces or ADA rooms as needed.
