Historically significant in the riverside area. Close to the mission inn that was the same architecture and designer.
The location is great!
This is a super cool old structure really close to the convention center. I really wanted to like it. I think many of the rooms are different, I thought I was booking a normal room, but it was almost a small apartment. There is a modern heater/AC unit.

Top Tips
- Book your Riverside hotel 4-8 weeks ahead for most weekends, or 8-12 weeks in advance for holiday periods like December (for events such as the Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn) or May-June (UCR commencements), as rates often surge by 25-40% during these times. Check for loyalty program promotions, as many chains offer member rates or flexible cancellation windows during high-demand periods.
- Choose Ontario International Airport (ONT) for the shortest drive to central Riverside, typically 20-30 minutes (20 miles) compared to 60-75 minutes (55-65 miles) from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) due to traffic. Several major hotel brands offer shuttle service from ONT; contact your hotel to confirm availability and schedule, especially after 22:00.
- Select a hotel in Downtown Riverside for easy access to local attractions like the Mission Inn and Fox Theater, or consider the I-215/60 corridor (near the Galleria at Tyler or UCR ARTSblock) for lower nightly rates and convenient freeway access. Downtown and UCR are 3-5 miles apart, typically a 10-15 minute drive.
- If booking a historic property like The Mission Inn, request an ADA-compliant or ground-level elevator room, as some areas may not be fully step-free. Ask about roll-in showers, visual alarms, or TTY devices to ensure your accessibility needs are met.
- Expect free self-parking at freeway chain hotels, but plan for an extra $15 to $30 per night for valet or garage parking at Downtown hotels, which often have limited lots. Some chains may waive parking fees for elite loyalty members or validate with restaurant/event spend; verify parking fees at reservation.
- Prepare for Inland Empire summer heat, with average July highs of 95-105°F (35-40°C); confirm your room’s air conditioning is working and consider requesting a lower-floor room for cooler temperatures on arrival. Use the hotel pool or indoor lounge spaces to escape mid-day heat, and wear sun protection when walking between venues.
- Use the Riverside-Downtown rail station, a 10-20 minute walk from Mission Inn/Main St, for Metrolink’s Riverside Line and Amtrak Southwest Chief regional connections to avoid I-215/60 commuter traffic. Most major hotels are within a $10 to $15 ride-share trip from the rail station if you prefer not to walk; verify train schedules, especially for late arrivals.
- Hotel water conservation measures during drought may include linen reuse and reduced landscaping watering. Participate where possible, but if you require extra laundry or longer showers for medical needs, request these at the front desk; chain hotels often swap towels upon request.
- For reliable remote work, confirm wired internet or 'business-floor' access directly with your hotel. Many chains allow guests to use meeting rooms or lounge spaces for extended work periods on request; historic Downtown hotels may have stronger concierge business centers.
