The hotel was right on the water! Hearing the waves hit the sand was amazing. Will definitely be back!
This is a WONDERFUL hotel. Everything is exceptional. Everything.
The fresh feeling of lobby and outdoor dining. The rooms, which have not yet undergone recent renovation, are still in excellent shape. All staff we came in contact with were terrific.

The area was beautiful. The hotel was wonderful. We do not eat pork, so it was great to see turkey sausage served on the included, continental breakfast.
Pretty much everything you need was available. The front desk attendant the day we arrived was awesome. Came back from dinner with left-overs and as we were walking by, he asked us if we needed paper plates and plastic utensils. Just the little things.

Peace and quiet. Coffee and Tea at 6am. McDonald, Jack-In the box Subway and a Mini Market across the street. I forgot mt toothpaste and they had them on siye
Price, location. Easy on/off to the freeway. Pretty quiet. Not too much road noise. Nearby fast food that’s open late. Gas stations, local restaurants too. Yes it’s a 2 star motel, so expect some dated stuff. Not bad for cheap place to crash out.

Booked without knowing the area, when we arrived noticed it was right by highway & noisy, BUT rooms were clean, well kept, comfortable, & since rooms were towards back of hotel, not much noise. Beautiful courtyard in middle that gave it that extra touch.
Easy check in. Windows open. No parking charge. Everything in the room worked easily. Hot tub.

Top Tips
- Book Malibu properties 3-6 months in advance for spring and summer stays (April-September) to avoid 30-50% price increases during peak season. Advance planning improves room selection, especially at hotels with private beach or luxury amenities.
- Expect a total lodging tax of 10-15% in Malibu, including a transient occupancy tax and tourism fees; always check the final price breakdown before confirming your booking.
- Consider East Malibu, closer to Santa Monica, for hotel rates that are typically 15-25% lower than options west of Malibu Canyon Road (near Point Dume). This area still offers beach access and faster drives to city attractions.
- Confirm parking availability and fees before booking, as many Malibu hotels charge $15 per night for valet, while free parking may be limited or reserved for guests with accessible needs.
- Verify hotel Wi-Fi speeds if working remotely. Most properties offer 5-25 Mbps, while higher-end resorts can reach 50-100 Mbps, but consistency varies by building and location.
- Check for resort fees, usually $15 per night, which may cover amenities like Wi-Fi and pool access. Confirm what's included to avoid unexpected charges at check-in.
- Distinguish between 'ocean view' and 'oceanfront' rooms; oceanfront rooms are typically 20-40% more expensive but offer direct beach proximity. Review property maps or contact the hotel to confirm room placement.
- Plan for 45-90 extra minutes to reach LAX or Santa Monica on summer or holiday weekends due to Pacific Coast Highway congestion. Allow ample time for airport shuttles or rideshares, especially during local festivals.
- Arrive early for public beach parking, as Zuma and similar lots fill by about 10:00 AM on summer weekends. Confirm your hotel's parking policy, especially if you expect to return mid-day.
- Verify accessible or step-free room availability in advance, as many Malibu hotels are converted homes or low-rise cottages with limited elevator access. Major hotel chains usually guarantee some accessible rooms; reserve early to ensure availability.
- Check weekly beach water quality advisories from Los Angeles County Public Health within 48 hours of swimming, as advisories may change after local storms or runoff. Most hotel front desks can help you check the latest updates.
- Ask hotels about on-site restaurant hours and nearest full supermarket, as many dining options along Pacific Coast Highway close before 21:00 and grocery runs may require a 15-30 minute drive. Some hotels offer 24-hour grab-and-go if arriving late.
- Book midweek (Sunday-Thursday) to find Malibu hotel rates that are typically 15-25% lower than Friday-Saturday stays. Flexible dates may unlock room upgrades or preferred views at select properties.
- Verify cellular service and backup options, especially during fire season (July-November), as coverage may drop in canyon areas. Bring a hotspot for emergency alerts; some larger hotels offer Wi-Fi calling throughout the property.
- Use Caltrans QuickMap for real-time Pacific Coast Highway updates, as peak season delays average 18-22 minutes per 10 miles. Many hotel concierges can provide printed alternate route suggestions.
- If booking a vacation rental or boutique hotel, request step-free entry for canyon or bluff properties, as about 80% of homes in Malibu have stairs due to hilly terrain. Major hotel chains often list accessible features online or via reservation call centers.
