Set in 4 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, Hempstead House is a privately owned and run Victorian country house hotel, spa and restaurant surrounded by glorious Kent countryside. The luxurious bedrooms with attached bathroom are individually designed, and the hotel features elegant reception rooms and 3 bar areas. The classical Lakes Restaurant and the contemporary Brasserie offer award-winning food and professional but friendly service. The AquaManda Spa offers relaxation and leisure facilities including 15-yard swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and hydrotherapy pool. Their outdoor plunge pool is open weather permitting between May and October. The fitness studio offers a range of classes, and there's a fully equipped state-of-the-art gym onsite. Why not indulge yourself in a relaxing treatment? De-stress and unwind with a massage, facial, body treatment, manicure, pedicure and more during your stay. Spa facilities are for resident adult guests aged 16 years and over. There are family swimming sessions scheduled on weekends only during term time and daily in school holidays where resident children under 16 years can enjoy the pool facilities. The extensive gardens and terraces make an ideal setting for al fresco aperitifs and dining on summer evenings. In the winter months, guests can enjoy the warmth and comfort of the roaring log fires. Perfectly located for days out, Hempstead House is on the main A2 road near to the cathedral towns of Canterbury and Rochester, and the ports of Dover and Folkestone. Trains from Sittingbourne get you to London in approximately an hour, and towards the Kent coastal destinations of Whitstable, Ramsgate and Margate.

Pros +
- Good breakfast
- This is an attractive country house hotel, well placed for touring northern Kent. Its rooms and public areas are lovely, well maintained with an airy restaurant and a variety of small lounges for relaxing with a drink. It has a good spa and the outside areas are well maintained. And, subject to what I say below, the staff are friendly and attentive.
Cons -
- Hotel was a bit tired and dated
- The hotel clearly, and justifiably, makes a good living out of weddings and events. However, perhaps for this reason, the restaurant is a little disappointing for a hotel of this standard. On our most recent visit the menu was brief and unexciting and service both at dinner and at breakfast left something to be desired. This was a shame as the hotel was in all other respects everything we could have wished.
