Paperbark Camp

The staff, the facilities, and the serenity of the place were all truly special. Memorable and unique, we felt cared for and wished we could stay longer. Kangaroos, great coffee, and the forest at hand with the beaches a short bike ride away. Inclusive of bikes and canoes and breakfast make it a solid value if a bit of a splurge!

The restaurant seemed a little overpriced and it was limited, but the quality was outstanding. Minimal selection made eating with dietary restrictions challenging and the sold out camp stressed the tiny kitchen for timelines, but overall it was wonderful.

Super over priced. The tents were nice but other places do this better now eg Currajong retreat where the tents have fans and fridge etc, all the mod cons. We happened to be there on a super hot day and it was unbearably hot in the tent and no fans were provided. Had to run a cold bath to sit in to survive.

Everything was fantastic—the food was excellent, the tent was super comfortable, and the absolute highlight was the outdoor bathroom! Such a unique experience and a perfect way to connect with nature.

Unfortunately, we didn’t see any wildlife during our stay, which was a bit of a letdown. Also, the barista coffee (Flat White) didn’t quite live up to expectations—it was advertised as barista-quality but didn’t taste like it. A small improvement here would make the experience even better!

Considering it is in the bush there were surprisingly no spiders or bugs around much at all. We loved the food at the properties restaurant and the staff were very friendly and accommodating

It would have been nice if there were a spa or something like that there but otherwise everything was very nice

We got bitten despite using the repellent and burning the sticks - nothing really that Camp can do about this - just be aware.

Loved the communal area open plan with tree views, high on stilts. Loved the tent set up bathroom and outdoor area.

The only problem was I was sleeping on a camp bed probably better for a child. The other person my friend had the king bed. I think it would be better to separate the beds into two singles so that we have both have a good night sleep! My back was very sore after this.

Nothing, but be aware the cicadas are very loud during daylight hours! I’d recommend bringing some headphones or ear plugs so you can get a break from them when you need to.

Bad experience

I recently stayed at Paperbark Camp, and I am extremely disappointed with the experience. Despite the beautiful setting, the hygiene issues in our tent were unacceptable, especially given the high price of AUD 700 per night.Firstly, the bedding was poorly maintained. The blanket near the head area wasn't sealed properly, and the yellow blanket underneath had a strong fishy odor. This smell was so intense that it caused me nasal discomfort, and my husband ended up with a severe headache.To make matters worse, when we tried to use the alternative blanket provided in the room, we found a long strand of hair on it. This was absolutely disgusting and made us feel even more uncomfortable.I tried contacting the property multiple times – leaving a voicemail, sending messages, and even contacting Booking.com's customer service. Despite being told that the property would respond within nine hours, we heard nothing from them.For a place that charges such a premium, these issues are unacceptable. I expected much better standards, and unfortunately, this experience has left a very negative impression. I would not recommend staying here.

the setting of paperbark camp is beautiful and peaceful - absolutely what you expect from this type of accommodation. kajaking on the quaint river spotting one or the other kangaroo at sunset = picture-perfect australia. we were also impressed by the friendly staff and the quality of the kitchen, delivering excellent dinner and breakfast.

unfortunately, the tent did not fully live up to our expectations, in particular considering the high price-point of more than AUD 1000/night (including dinner and breakfast). we think that more thorough cleaning (dust, spiderwebs, etc.) and one or the other touch-up could be expected (while we expected wildlife, we did not expect 4 cockroaches in the tent's wardrobe).

The price, it’s a half board accommodation for $650 a night. I guess if it was cheaper everyone would stay there.

Very unique concept. Restaurant was amazing and seemed to be the main focus. Tents were cool.

The entrance and road leading in are underwelming. There is no proper reception. It is the restaurant bar. For the price I expected help w luggage. They did take to tent on golf cart after we unloaded and self parked a ways off. The tents are cool and well appreciated for a tent. We had mice trying to get in pretty soon after occupying. We tried to be very careful about food and drink in the tent. We stuffed wash cloth in a large gap and towel under back doors gap. When trying to take a shower a swarm of bees arrived. After complaining to manager she said she tried to find mouse that ran under bed and do something w bees but nothing much was really done. It was a very hot near 100 f day but they did nothing to accommodate guests. Ice delivered to rooms or maybe fans would’ve been nice. Management seemed a bit overwhelmed and came across disinterested. Bikes are a joke. In pic on website they show cute comfy beach bikes but what they offer are ten speed skinny seat bikes. Good luck canoeing or paddle boarding cause dock was broken and not safe. Again the food was so good and the food service was pretty good. But accommodation service very lacking.

Paperbark camp is an experience like no other. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is next level amazing. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely incredible. Overall a wonderful experience.

It is a unique place to stay, where you are surrounded by nature, in comfort and with a level of sophistication. Wonderful restaurant.

Although the location and tents are amazing, it is the staff and the food that stand out above the rest. The staff make a huge effort to get to know you, take a genuine interest in your experience and are always on had to help with advice on activities, make recommendations, or simply tempt a curious Possum away from your tent!Although the hotel is listed as a 3 star, the service and attention to detail in your experience is a good as any 5 star hotel we’ve stayed in. The food and restaurant setting are a highlight also.

The staff is the best part of the stay. Giada and Theo were lovely and always available for the entire weekend. Also, the food at the restaurant is 5 stars. Although these are the only positive comments I have about our stay.

This location is not ideal for a honeymoon or those who aren't enthusiastic about camping or "glamping". My experience here had several drawbacks that weren't highlighted in previous reviews. Firstly, the tent lacks privacy and is smaller than it appears in the photographs. It's situated in an area with frequent foot traffic, both day and night, allowing passersby clear visibility inside. It's important to note that the tent, being traditional, lacks power outlets, a detail not mentioned in the main description. This means limited options for using electronic devices, with phone charging being the only feasible option.Secondly, the presence of wild animals, particularly possums, around the tent can be disconcerting. Despite being warned the night before to keep food in our cars, we experienced a disturbing incident with possums fighting on our patio at 3 am, causing considerable noise and shaking the tent, which was quite frightening and disrupted our sleep for over an hour.While the restaurant offers excellent food, the menu is repeated for two consecutive nights, limiting dining options. Additionally, service can be slow; we experienced a 45-minute wait for bread and butter, although the staff graciously offered a discount on our bottle due to this delay.Overall, considering the high cost, the experience fell short of expectations, particularly in terms of comfort and convenience.
