Little touches. No water in the room. No tissues.

I had two nights booked at the Portaferry Hotel and enjoyed my seaview/lochview room so much I booked another two nights. The room was reasonable size and clean, and was complete with a lovely good sized ensuite bathroom.The breakfast staff was delightful. Many thanks to Kateland for excellent service and a friendly breakfast chats.There was a meeting room I was able to use to work a few hours on my laptop. The internet cut out a few times but nothing serious.The wee town is lovely and great for a stroll. Sunsets are nice. Two grocery stores are just a few minutes walk away. The ferry to and from Strangford and Portaferry runs on a regular basis for less than £3. Also available is the city bus into Belfast which takes just over an hour. Portaferry Hotel is a great location and with beautiful views and nearby conveniences. For those who want a town with a lot to do, Portaferry is probably not your first choice. For those who want a beautiful relaxing time, stay as long as you can.

I propped the window open with a trash can. However, that will be remedied soon since the new owners are having new windows fitted for the entire hotel very soon.

Very authentic old building, but tastefully renovated in keeping with its history.

Bar was a bit noisy but it was a holiday so no big problem.

The food was excellent and the staff very friendly

The chowder at dinner wasn’t quite the consistency one would normally expect, tasty but a bit watery One of our party simply wanted poached egg, sausage and bacon for breakfast. We were told that there was no flexibility on the cooked breakfast and could only have the full cooked option. Some of the food went to waste

The room was lovely, very clean and had everything we would have expected. The dinner and breakfast were very good and all the staff were excellent and always there to make our stay a pleasure.

I booked a table for my husband and I and two friends in the restaurant for new years eve. During my telephone conversation I asked if there would be live entertainment and if the bar would be open after 12 midnight. I was told that there would be a live band and the bar would be open after 12 midnight.On the night around 9.30 p.m. we were told that there was no live band and that the bar was closing at 11p.m.We were shocked to hear this and mentioned to the receptionist on check out that we were very disappointed, she apologised and sent an email to the owners of the hotel advising them of our situation. I also sent an email to the same people when I arrived home and then phoned the hotel about 2 weeks later, as I had not heard from anyone, to find out if there was any update following the two emails.It has been nearly a month since we stayed at the hotel and are disappointed not to have even had the courtesy of an email or phone call to acknowledge our queries.

Excellent food and a receptionist who couldn’t do enough for us.

Room was cold, and bathroom was not the cleanest.

Location is beautiful

Went to stay for a wedding and couldn't get a taxi to the venue as there is none in the town which is not the hotels fault but for anyone who needs similar it's somthing to think about. Room was clean but very small for the price. Breakfast was very nice.

Excellent bar. Menu variety for dining and breakfast good. Food delicious. Comfy bed. Easy, close parking. Lovely location on the shore of Strangford lough.

Staff hit and miss, bar staff attitude to customers particularly poor, room tired and in need of repair especially ceiling (damp patches) and windows (broken glass pane and paintwork in need of repair)

An old fashioned Hotel staff, food and the position was perfect

No USB charging in the room. But staff did charge things up for me in the office

Very quaint and old fashioned but beautiful hotel. Location fantastic and beautiful views from the room.

Mix up about check out time, told at check in it was noon but it was 11. Also asked to pay a good bill when we didn’t eat in restaurant but staff were fine, clearly just an error.

Location. Food was good. Bed comfortable.

Flies in dining room. Light bulb missing in room. Front of house staff are unfriendly, inefficient and clearly don’t want to be there. Upon arrival we were made to wait while the receptionist busied with computer screen. Unwelcoming and not cool, after a long journey. Thirty minutes for coffee at breakfast, with only three tables to wait on. No toast. Bar staff frustrated at having to add to drinks order, as more joined our party - audible sigh! Evening meal - service was dreadful with little attention paid to guests, in deference to known patrons. At £150 / night off season - this place is Fawlty Towers.

Location is ideal and peaceful, staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and tasty.

The only thing that could be improved was location and shortage of electrical sockets, there was one behind door which is not really helpful, firstly if i use the hairdryer theres no mirror and also kettle had to be plugged in there to boil. I found a socket underneath the dressing table so its not accessible
