- We prefer one of the water-view balcony rooms in the main building. If those are not available, we were very happy to get our other choice: the downstairs terrace room in the attached building, especially now that I have trouble walking. We (3 Bergman families-gezinnen) have been coming to Princenhof since about 1984. My mother was the first one of us who came for Skutjesilen from Florida and discovered the comfortable viewing of he Race at the Princenhof. The restaurant and bar with its spectacular view are excellent. We are especially delighted with local Friesian breads/koek for breakfast. The Desk Staff and the dining room staff were extremely helpful when we needed some assistance and information. Looking forward to the next stay....
- Location, Staff Dinner and breakfast
- Great breakfast, great location.
Cons -
- Me. I wish I had not waited too long to make reservations for our 3-nights so that we could have stayed through Saturday night. I had no idea how busy September would still be! We'll be back!!
- Rooms lacked air-conditioning and were very hot depite keeping the door opened on the balcony all night. Toilet and bathroom outdated but clean
- Basic rooms, a bit overpriced but I guess it's more the location you pay for.

Rooms lacked air-conditioning and were very hot depite keeping the door opened on the balcony all night. Toilet and bathroom outdated but clean
Great breakfast, great location.
Basic rooms, a bit overpriced but I guess it's more the location you pay for.
Located in middle of lake district and national park.
The bed only had one pillow and a thin upper mattress. Not bad, but not great either. It’s easy to create a better experience with extra pillows and a straight thick upper mattress.
The room was on the waterside, was beautiful. Big room, with a big bathroom. The place was so quiet. Had a lovely stay.
Restaurant was a bit expensive for what you get. And I missed good coffee. The coffee was a bit tasteless. Bathroom light was short on, and goes of everytime. And in the middle of the night it popped on out of nowhere.
Personnel was very friendly and helpful
The size of the room and the bathroom facilities
Location - beautiful. Staff - helpful, friendly and professional.
The mosquitos! Not really a problem though - you can always put some repellant on!
Fantastic location,Earnewald is wonderful. The staff at the Princenhof are efficient, friendly and polite.
Limited options as regards restaurants, cafes etc.As regards the hotel the shower cubicle leaked resulting in the bathroom floor getting very wet.
Terrace outside our room with view on the lake was fabulous. Breakfast was good too. Quiet room.
The ceiling in our room was typical 1980s, price versus room w/ b'fast was costly too (considering shower instead of bath).
wonderful area! lovely calm but entertaining terrasse directly on the water (SW) with sunset and pretty good restaurant. very helpful bilingual staff.
rooms are a bit too simple, need a bit of redecorating cause nothing existing about, but: with calm terrasse (SE) with amazing view on the wetland on nice side of the hotel. younger staff could be more trained by their very helpful pair…
The location is the best. The view, the restaurant on the lake , the food and breakfast veryyyy good. Easy parking, comfortable beds. Super overall.
Quite basic rooms in terms of facilities. A bit overpriced.
great location, beautiful terrace on the water for lunch and dinner. good sunset for cocktails after a day of walks in the national park
rooms are a little basic but very clean
Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and varied.Location next to water was peaceful and interesting.
It was difficult to find a parking space for most of our stay. Our toilet room was too small and did not have a washbasin.
the view at the restaurant
A bit outdated rooms (even having to use a key and no airco) however that is no problem with the right price.
The Princenhof is rare gem. We have been enjoying it since the 50s. With my parents and with my family. I am now 84. Hope I can return again.Bernie van der HoevenSanta Fe, NM USA
The room was spacious and clean, the restaurant area was also spacious, welcoming and with a nice water view, the breakfast was served as requested and we had a tasty dinner there one of the nights.
Staff, location, shower, bed, view, food.
Automatic lights and ventilator in bathroom and toilet. Very disturbing for partner at nightNo refrigeratorVery odd wardrobe, only a few shelves, the hanging part is 5 feet wide, the hanging rod less than 1 foot. ?
The view from the breakfast terrace is excellent, as is the location in Friesland.
Room above the kitchen backdoor guarantees much noise from kitchen staff.Without airconditioning you have to open the window, which lets in numerous mosquitos.
Amazing location, friendly staff with limited experience
Rooms over restaurant are noisy. Dinner is absolutely mediocre
Beautiful place at the lake, peaceful and relaxing nature around. Great place for the weekend. Nice breakfast, lake terrace
