Pros +
- Newly renovated. Great location! Fun atmosphere.
- The property looks nice. The staff was very friendly. The sugary biscuits in the morning were very tasty.
- The location is prime. Restaurants and shopping are quite literally steps away. The hotel is charming, with rustic reminders of its history, and all-modern amenities and very comfortable beds. Everything was in good working order. The included breakfast was a frittata served at 9am. Coffee and tasty scones are available before then. The staff was helpful, professional, and polite.
Cons -
- Not great experience in the restaurant. Heater broken in our room so very chilly in January.
- The room I stayed in needed a blackout shade over the window in the door. The bedroom had a tremendous amount of ambient outside light because the shade over that window was insufficient to block out the outside lighting that was on all night. The conditioning of the rooms is controlled by the front desk, so if the room is too cold they will send up extra blankets but if the room is too warm, which it was, you are out of luck. I had to leave before the hot food items were put out for breakfast. The only cold food item put out from 7a to 9a were these very cute, very petite, sugary biscuits. Not exactly cold breakfast items (plural) as one is led to believe will be available.
- We stayed in the auxiliary building separate from the main building, which I did not expect. There are no elevators in this building; you will have to haul your bags up the stairs. The walls are thin, and there are signs notifying guests to be respectful of others. But by thin, I mean that I could hear every word of my neighbor across the hall’s phone conversation, conducted in a normal speaking voice. I expected a reasonably quiet room. Bring earplugs. Parking was a challenge with two weddings happening during our stay. The claw-footed bathtub was lovely to look at, but I found the rounded bottom was difficult to stand in while showering. There was nothing to grab onto for balance.

First impressions are everything. Front desk is five star. A hotel is nothing if the staff isn’t cheerful and we were treated very well by all, including the restaurant & bar.Really nice job renovating. Such detail. A real time capsule. We stayed in a room above the kitchen fan and didn’t care! It eventually stopped anyway.
