First of all I was NOT given the Hotel I wanted. I was scammed into YOU choosing where I stayed and that is FRAUD. I wanted to stay at the Ramada which was one block from my function. I did not use your hotel Super8. I booked in at the Ramada.
The owner was nice
Front desk staff helpful and friendly , housekeeping attentive to our needs and kept the place clean daily, even with the Covid situation looming. Room was dated but very clean , beds were comfortable, free WiFi, free parking.

Top Tips
- Reserve your hotel as early as possible for travel between June and September or during local events like the Gold Dust Days rodeo, since rooms in Quesnel can sell out weeks in advance. Ask hotels directly about group, long-stay, or advance-purchase discounts for savings up to 12% on multi-night bookings.
- Confirm airport transfers and ground transport in advance. Quesnel Airport (YQZ) is 7 km (4.3 mi) from downtown and has limited taxi and shuttle options, so pre-booking a rental car can prevent last-minute shortages. Compare rates and availability at least 48 hours prior.
- Choose your hotel location based on your plans. For walkable access to restaurants and shops, stay within the downtown core (under 1 km to main venues). For easy highway access to Barkerville or fishing lakes, select a site near Highway 97. Always map travel distances as town-to-park day trips can take 40-60 minutes.
- Read recent guest reviews (posted within the past 3-6 months) on TripAdvisor or Google. Pay special attention to comments about room cleanliness, Wi-Fi speeds above 10 Mbps, heating reliability, parking availability, and noise levels. Small properties near the tracks or highways may have higher noise after 22:00.
- If you require reliable Wi-Fi for work, request documented upload/download speeds (minimum 10 Mbps recommended) and a room with a work desk or business centre access. If speed info is missing, verify with the front desk prior to check-in, especially for long stays.
- Most Quesnel hotels offer free guest parking onsite. However, EV charging stations are limited, with only select chain locations providing level 2 charging. Always confirm availability when booking. For long-term or airport parking needs, ask about nearby secured lots with current rates.
- Bring government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) and a valid credit card for check-in, as this is mandatory at nearly all Canadian hotels for both incidentals and registration. International guests should use their passport, and those booking for minors may need proof of guardianship.
- Confirm that your quoted nightly rate includes all taxes and mandatory fees. In BC, expect 5% GST, 8% PST, plus a 2-3% local hotel tax. Ask about additional costs such as pet fees, extra-person charges, or parking before finalizing your booking.
- Plan for variable Cariboo weather and road conditions. In winter (November-March), bring insulated clothing and footwear, and if driving BC highways, use snow-rated tires or chains as required by law. For summer stays, pack DEET-based insect repellent and sun protection.
- Stay wildlife-aware. If your hotel borders forests or the Fraser River, secure all food, use provided refrigerators only as directed, and ask staff for current bear advisories. Most hotels can provide safety tips; avoid leaving food waste or coolers outside your vehicle.
- Follow Canadian tipping norms: tip restaurant staff 15-20% of your total bill. For hotel services, tip bell staff and drivers $1-$5 CAD per bag or trip, and $2-$5 CAD per night for housekeeping. Prepare some small-denomination cash for tips, as many rural vendors do not accept cards for gratuities.
- Pet and smoking policies vary, so always confirm in advance whether pets are accepted, which room types allow them, and any surcharges, typically $15-$30 CAD per night. Most hotels enforce no-smoking policies (tobacco and cannabis); ask about outdoor or designated use areas to comply with provincial law.
- Families can request connecting rooms, cribs, or kitchenettes, but check that the hotel offers these amenities before arrival as inventory is limited. For accessibility, ask about step-free access, elevator locations, and visual alarms, as not all rural properties provide fully accessible rooms.
- Travel with necessary prescriptions and your government-issued health card or travel insurance information. Quesnel’s GR Baker Memorial Hospital offers emergency services, but more advanced care is over 100 km (62 mi) away in Prince George. Check current COVID-19 protocols with your property before travel.
- Where weather or flight changes are possible, select refundable or flexible cancellation rates. Mountain flights and BC highways may close without notice in fall or winter. For added security, compare travel insurance plans that cover weather delays and trip interruptions.
- Hotel front desks are valuable sources for local updates. Ask about current trail status, fishing licenses, event tickets, and Indigenous cultural tours led by Dakelh (Carrier) guides. Most properties can provide maps and contact details at check-in.
- Respect Quesnel’s local customs and traditional Dakelh (Carrier) territory. When visiting cultural sites, seek posted guidance and do not photograph individuals or private locations without consent. Opt for Indigenous-led tours to learn directly from local hosts.
- Pack small items such as chargers, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and insect repellent, and carry at least $20-$40 CAD in cash for markets or local tips. Most hotels accept cards, but some small businesses and taxis operate cash-only, especially outside city limits.
- Confirm whether your hotel provides onsite laundry, shared kitchen access, and step-free accessible rooms, as these are not standard in all Cariboo properties. If you have specific mobility or dietary needs, call ahead to verify availability.
- For day trips to Barkerville or provincial parks, pre-load offline maps and print paper directions, as mobile signal is unreliable outside Quesnel. Bring emergency supplies such as water, snacks, and layers for routes over 30 km (19 mi) from town, since amenities are sparse.
