Cheaper price
The place is---- bucks a night and was worth what I paid. It is old, and run down, but was clean and quiet. The owner and his family are very nice and the food at the Japanese Restaurant was really good, despite the lack of customers and poor service.

Location and overall room quality was good. Room was quiet and the breakfast choices were good.
The staff were very polite and helpful. Our family suite was big enough for 6 of us to spread out and sleep comfortably. The price was reasonable for a family suite and the breakfast was hot and fresh. We had a great hotel experience here.

Top Tips
- Book your Dawson Creek hotel room 1-2 months in advance, especially for peak summer (June to September) or during local events like the Fall Fair, as options are limited and fill quickly. September is a high-demand month due to the Fall Fair, and average occupancy rates can spike by up to 40%.
- Plan your airport-to-hotel transportation as Dawson Creek Airport (YDQ) is approximately 16 km (10 miles) from the city center, and public transit is limited. Rental cars are recommended for mobility; check large hotel chains for shuttle schedules, or expect taxi fares to range from CA$35 to CA$45. Rental car pre-booking is advised during event dates.
- Confirm parking availability, especially if traveling with an RV, truck, or trailer, as many hotels offer free parking but may have limited space for oversized vehicles. Verify onsite parking policy with your hotel before arrival.
- Confirm Wi-Fi and cell coverage before booking, as connectivity can be spotty in this rural area. Select international chains may provide upgraded business centers or guaranteed high-speed Wi-Fi as a booking tier feature - confirm this when booking if you need business amenities or reliable access.
- Ensure you have a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport) and the credit card used for booking ready at check-in, as hotels require both for verification and incidental holds.
- Budget for taxes beyond the room rate, including 5% federal GST, 7% provincial PST, and an additional 2-3% Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT) on accommodation, plus potential incidental holds on your credit card. For example, taxes and holds can add CA$15 to CA$25 per night on a CA$150 room.
- Observe local tipping customs: expect to tip 15-20% for restaurant and service staff. For hotel porters, $1-2 USD (approx. CA$1.35-CA$2.70) per bag is standard, and $2-5 USD (approx. CA$2.70-CA$6.75) per day for housekeeping is appreciated. Leave housekeeping tips daily with a brief thank-you note for best recognition.
- Prepare for varied weather: Winters can reach -20°C (-4°F), so confirm reliable heating and snow services. Higher-end chains may offer extra bedding, portable heaters, or blackout curtains on request. For mild summer stays, pack insect repellent and sun protection, and confirm AC availability if visiting during warmer months.
- Plan for remote travel logistics by filling up on fuel before long drives, as services may be far apart, and watch for wildlife like moose, deer, and bears on rural roads - especially at dawn or dusk. Some branded hotels have 24-hour fuel stations or can advise on current road advisories at the front desk.
- If traveling with a pet, confirm the hotel's pet policy and any associated fees beforehand. Larger brands may offer dedicated pet-friendly floors or onsite amenities like waste bags; inquire in advance. If you need daily housekeeping, cribs, or rollaway beds, verify those are available before your stay.
- Request a room on an upper floor or away from the main road and ice machines to minimize highway noise and ensure a quieter night's rest. If you require an accessible room or step-free access, confirm its location and features when booking, as rooms near elevators may face the street.
- Inquire about current health and safety protocols, including cleaning procedures and any service limitations, directly with your hotel before arrival. Many hotel brand websites and apps offer real-time updates on protocols; use mobile check-in if available for contact-reduced service and added convenience.
- If driving the Alaska Highway, choose a hotel that offers secure parking, early or packed breakfast options, and easy access to fuel and shops to support your journey. Some major chains have grab-and-go breakfasts for departures before 6:00 a.m.; verify this for early starts.
- Consider hotels offering complimentary breakfast or kitchenette suites, as downtown dining can be limited or have shorter hours. Loyalty members with international brands may qualify for food credits or inclusive upgrades, so check for these during booking to maximize value.
- If you plan an extended stay or are staging for Alaska Highway travel, inquire about long-stay discounts, late check-out, or luggage storage to match your itinerary. Many extended-stay brands offer onsite laundry and kitchenettes; confirm availability.
- Recognize Dawson Creek is in Treaty 8 territory and be respectful of local culture and Indigenous lands. Leading chains may display Treaty 8 information in public spaces; look for this at check-in for context and guidance, and always ask permission before photographing people or joining community events.
- Engage with hotel staff for local insights; ask for recommendations on attractions like the Alaska Highway Museum or Walter Wright Pioneer Village, and discover dining options such as local pubs and diners. Some hotels may organize tours or partner with attractions - check at the front desk.
