Hotel Angel Grandia Echigo Nakazato

Could not fault this place. Family of 6, first time skiiers, Ski rental next door (no need to book), and the hotel provides a large ski locker for each room on the ground floor ... so literally ski straight out the hotel door to either Nakazato Snow Wood or the bigger Yuzawa Nakazato resort. Yuzawa has a better ski learning area and ski school (escalator on beginner slope) which is well worth paying for if you are learning to ski or snowboard ... its no more than a 200m walk from hotel. Breakfast/dinner buffet was amazing and well worth the money. Hotel has a public onsen (free) and a good heated/indoor pool/gym which costs about 600yen per day ... pool/gym were quiet (which was great) due to the small entry fee. Overall this hotel is run like a swiss watch ... staff amazing given the large number of guests ! The only slight negative for some guests is that you should know this is a very "japanese" hotel and the majority of guests are Japanese. Personally no issue, everyone very polite ... but if you're expecting 8 different styles of eggs on the buffet you will be dissappointed .. it's very much a Japanese menu ...

The buffet breakfast and dinner was good value. The hotel is close only to 1 ski resort.

The location is far about 25 minutes from the bullet train and from the main Yuzawa ski area. The room has no beds and chairs and the shower is old and tiny.

The place is crowded during our stay so the restaurant were full, we drove so we made trips out for dinner. Great slopes for the kids to ski & snow play.

One of the recommended hotel to stay if you really want to enjoy snow for short vacation. Family-friendly hotel. Just walk out from the hotel and you can play with snow (children vibes).

Conveniently located with shuttle bus and walking distance to Nakazoto ski resort. Family mart downstairs was convenient too. Tamami was spacious and comfortable.

Staff are not very friendly and don’t speak English. When I was speaking English, they called a Chinese staff to speak with me. They don’t clean the room, change towels. We had to bring the trash out and bring out used towels for clean ones. Everything seems self service here.

There was a beginners snow slope right there next to the hotel. We had some problems with lessons in English at the Ski school. They charge a fortunate are not flexible at all. The hotel staff go above and beyond to be helpful however- even driving me to an ATM when my card wouldn't work in their machine so I could hire ski stuff which is cash only. There is a locker key system for storing your bags on departure and arrival that can be confusing. The buffet is great and we loved the onson. There are cute robes in the room and a gym and pool. The room actually became too warm at night and we couldn't turn the heat down!

The ski school really let the experience down. Be ready to pay cash for ski hire and the skii school.

Meals were excellent with so much of Japanese local tastes. The FAMILY room was so spacy and clean. The HEATER equipment was also working very well so that we did not feel cold at all.

The only SMOKING CABIN at the ground floor which is very small and very cold.

Ski in ski out. It was snowing when we were there. So fresh snow all the time during our stay. Chairlift is just 100 meters from the hotel back exit. Rental of snow equipment just infront of the hotel. You ll pay half of the rental rate if you stay in this hotel. Scenery....mesmerising!. Look forward for future trip here.

We went there to see snow and it was absolutely beatiful, the snow and mountains spectacular views!

The japanese style rooms, i know traditionally they have no furniture and no beds but it was terrible. You get a small thin foam matress to sleep on and rock hard pillows. Back was so sore sleeping on hard floors. And no AC, i know its snowing outside but we couldnt control room temp... room was warm.

I do enjoy the onsen

Very long waiting time for the shuttle bus to/from the hotel. Not enough shuttle bus to cater to the hotel guests. 1 night we waited for 1 hour from the welcome centre to hotel

Location was convenient to the nearby ski slopes and snow play area. Shuttle bus pick up from echigo station was convenient. Breakfast selection was very good, my favourite part is the onsen of the hotel. There are two different location for onsen, loved the outdoor onsen.

Shuttle bus pick up was easy to navigate however bus interval was 30 mins, or even 60 mins . Therefore buses were always extremely packed. Would be nicer to have more frequent shuttle buses. Check in was self check in, I personally like a check in counter with staff explaining everything about facilities , onsen and breakfast time . You will need to do bit of reading and research by yourself

The breakfast and dinner buffet was really good.I liked the large onsen bath.It was nice there was a shuttle bus to/from station.The door PIN pad is a great idea, I don't have to carry hotel keys.The front desk staff was very helpful.

The fan in the kitchen area was very loud and was non-stop the entire time. The instructions for the heater is wrong, we tried turning it off but it wasn't actually off.

1) The shuttle bus between Echigo-Yuzawa station and the hotel was most helpful. 2) Lovely Japanese style room with a sink and a microwave oven. 3) Super child friendly.4)Big library/reading room on the second floor, also a kids play zone. 5) Lovely hot spring area.

There wasn's a ski season report at the time of booking, so that I only knew the ski resort hadn't opened yet during the whole week I was there. I wish such essential information was put at the top of the hotel website. The whole trip was for the ski resort outside of the hotel, and yet it was not open. We had to take the shuttle bus everyday to the JR station, and then take another shuttle bus to the Gala Ski Resort, which makes my booking meaningless.

Great location, literally on the mountain! Snow was amazing.. Breakfast was very good.

Sadly the accommodation and the hotel is dated and not well maintained. Lobby was a nightmare, chaotic and hard work to check in and out. 3 nights cost 2k++ and really didn't feel we got value for money

Friendly and helpful staff and location was perfect for kids to snowboard and play in the snow. One of the staff (Thao) can speak 3 languages, she was so helpful. Thank you for a great stay. We can’t wait to come back soon.

The free shuttle bus service was convenient to get to/from the train station, and close enough just a 5-mins walk, manageable with luggages on snow. If you’re able to book the hotel’s buffet dinner at 5000 yen per person, it can save a lot of time to look for food options in the area (which we’re not familiar with, and not driving). However, the hotel said that we could not pre-book the dinner because they need to fulfill the guests who are staying with dinner plans first. Fortunately we were able to book the dinner for the 2 nights we stayed. Dinner & breakfast were both good. They gave different time slots for meals and it was an excellent system to ensure everyone had a table. Ski rental is just next to the hotel and special rates are given to hotel guests.

The check-in time is strictly at 15:00 via machines with the QR code given beforehand. Although it is quick and efficient system, we have to pay to store the luggages in lockers if you wish to start skiing immediately upon arrival (and retrieve your luggages later). The hotel should provide luggage storage for free like most hotels and bring them to the room when the rooms are ready. However, there is no such service here. I had to walk 3x to bring all our luggages up (with the rest on the ski slopes already). The waiting area/lobby is not big and has limited seats (for people waiting for check-in time at 15:00).When I started to lay the futons in the room, there were actually strands of hair found in the bedsheets, making me wonder if the room was cleaned well. I do understand that the hotel has many rooms and it’s a peak period, so they might be extremely busy cleaning up after guests check-out. But it would be nice if the sheets do not have dirt on it.
