    Pros +

    • I really liked the aesthetic and the views from the dorm. Also, the privacy and quietness.
    • I loved the location, right next to the best sunset spots on the island. It was easily walkable to the center of town for restaurants. I love that they have free community events like tea and movie night. I even booked my snorkel trip through them for a very fair price, and it was a great trip! The breakfast included in the stay was delicious. The bathrooms were generally clean, and with hot water. Overall the layout of the hostel with the pool and ample lounge spots and plants everywhere was nice. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I loved my stay and I would happily return to Captain Coconuts if I’m ever in the Gilis again!
    • Love the idea of the open dorm with the hammock style beds.

    Cons -

    • The bed is not very comfortable. Was eaten alive by the mosquitoes, mostly when going to the bathroom. The staff seemed annoyed to be there and by our presence, and felt observed while in the pool.
    • Sleeping in the open air (under a mosquito net) was really nice, but it was hotter than I expected it to be at night. The air flow in the space isn’t great, and my fan wasn’t able to point anywhere except my feet, so I did find it a bit uncomfortable. I do recommend an eye mask and ear plugs as it will make it much easier to sleep — the lights are on late and sometimes the mosque goes late/early too. The WiFi works everywhere except the hostel bed area, where my phone and laptop both struggled to reach the signal.
    • - The locker fell apart (so not particularly secure).- The breakfast is tiny.- The dorm setup with the mosquito net and fan didn't work well for me.

It was very cozy and surprisingly came with a welcome drink, AC and breakfast!

There are holes through the walls/doors so insects can come in and the Balinese frog was super loud at night.

I loved the bamboo bungalows, and it was incradibly confortable even the beds are hanged with ropes, staff was super friendly and the beach is 3 minutes walk

    7JenniPosted on: 6-17-2025

I loved the proximity to the beach, and the staff working there were awesome - always chatting, giving advice and sharing the culture and history or the Gili’s and Indonesia. There were enough beds around the pool and the common areas were very clean.

The facilities could be cleaner and updated. No hot water in the showers, some of the doors don’t lock and the women’s bathrooms/changing rooms door doesn’t close properly. Really easy fixes but would make the experience much better. I fans above the beds could also be better/upgraded. The one above my bed was rusted and barely blew air.

We stayed 4 nights at Captain Coconuts Gili Air and absolutely loved it! Only a 3-minute walk to the beach and surrounded by some of the best restaurants on the island. The hotel pool is perfect for relaxing, set in a lovely area full of palm trees. The staff were super polite and helpful. Our room was way bigger than expected, and the whole place had a really chilled, relaxed vibe. The kids had a blast playing with the local cats too! We’ll definitely be coming back next time. ?☀️?

We had a wonderful time at Captain Coconuts. Everybody was really kind and helpful . We loved the cafe, lovely clean sheets and the coconuts . I slept like a log

i stubbed my toe against the leg of the bed three times! that shouldn’t happen in paradise

I loved Captain Coconuts! Cute little huts, nice pool, good breakfast and great location.

This was the first hostel I’ve ever stayed in — and it completely exceeded every expectation I had. Any downside was more than made up for by the beauty of the place, the kindness of the staff, and the overall atmosphere. Even though there was no air conditioning, the fan worked perfectly and kept the bed cool during the night. The included breakfast was absolutely delicious — especially the breakfast wrap, which became my favorite way to start the day.

If I really had to point out something that could be improved, it would be the attention to small details here and there. But honestly, the overall experience was so positive that those little things didn’t matter at all.

The most magical hostel I ever stayed in! So beautifully decorated with beds that rock you to sleep at night. The dorm is window free so you can hear nature all around and gives a cool breeze instead of aircon, I loved it! I look forward to staying here again ❤️

    Nothing it was perfect.

The garden and pool area and overall vibe of the place was really nice. Kids specially liked the pool. We stayed in the family room which had two separate bedrooms and living area outside, which was really lovely and nice also when it rained.

The rooms looked really nice but one of the bedrooms which was on the side of the street was really noisy. There is no real windows and all the street noise as well really heavy airconditioning right outside was not really nice. There was one extra small bedroom but we didnt use it in the end as it looked more like a bed in a shed and with no windows and without mosquito nets as other bedrooms. The place has a healthy vegetarian kitchen which was nice but for children there was not much choice for breakfast or the main menu. But there are plenty of places nearby.

The staff were very nice and helpful. The hostel dorm is really cool with the bamboo vibes and swinging beds. The garden and chilling areas and the hammock are so nice and relaxing.

Overall liked it a lot. Food is a bit pricey though. Dorm is a bit dusty.

Love the food, vibe and ambiance! Super sweet staff. Bike Rental was great. Sweet kitties!

Theyre considering replacing bug spray with essential pops and vinegar. The 5 am mosque is easy for me to hear.

The place is really beautiful, I made some great friends here. The vibe is lovely and the location is great.

The hostel beds take some getting used to! They swing, so if you're a light sleeper like me, sleep might be difficult!

Such a beautiful space . The breakfast was amazing and the staff where lovely . I always sat down to have a chat with them . They always had a smile on their face .

Just one thing but it’s not their fault at all . On my last night the power went out and their generator was next to my room . Noisy :/

Beautiful bungalows, located in a quiet area just a few meters away from the beach and lots of restaurants. It has a nice pool and restaurant included, renting bikes is also possible as well as doing laundry. I was staying one week and had a great time!

Beautiful and well maintained facilities. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Cafe is great especially if you're vegan

It has a hostel vibe because of the dorms. Wifi didn't work inside the bungalow. Room lacked a few small details - bulbs not working, holes in the fabric over the bed and water pressure was very weak. Overall it's gorgeous but not worth $100 a night in my opinion

    8VivianPosted on: 1-3-2025

The food is exceptional (best I had in Indonesia) , the location is great , close to everything and walking by the subset beach and nice restaurants and bars .The music is always chill and niceThe swimming pool is an oasis and the garden is very nice and well maintained

There are little details on maintenance that could be improved and elevate the feel & look of the bungalow like toilette bin (dirty) , the mosquito net over the bed )ripped), sunbed Coushions (dirty)
