Gateshead Tavern & Motel

Staff were very lovely. Really friendly and kind. Room was super quiet. Shower had good water pressure. Was perfect place to sleep before having to be at the beach really early for Nippers State Carnival. Even though motel on main road, rooms are at the back and since I’m pretty sure everyone staying that night had kids competing the next day everyone went to bed by 8pm and we were all up at 5am haha. It was 5 min to Charlestown shopping centre and 15 min to Belmont SLSC (where the carnival was).

The rooms were a bit dated, but we expected that. The air con controller had a really bright green light, i normally bring blue tack to cover stuff like that but id forgotten. Honestly though it was a great place and perfect for what we needed. We will come back again next year!

Very quiet - clean and tidy - exactly what you expect for the price point. Good value for money and the evening we stayed had the whole Taven to ourselves.

Lighting between the Taven and Rooms very dull. Bathrooms could do with a spruce up (clean but dated) and the lack of power points also was a pain. Just needed to ensure that you had a power board

Basic but comfortable room for an overnight stay.

No microwave. Yes the adjoining tavern has bar food, but as someone with food issues I travel with my own supplies.

Proximity to shops beach.

Very small but for the money was worth it.

Stayed 2 nights and room was not cleaned. Advised staff and they said yes it should have been as I knew but they did nothing about it. Dinner at the bar shut really early so we couldn’t get dinner there. Never had these issues before so hope it doesn’t become a normality not to clean rooms

Gateshead Tavern and Motel was great value for money and was perfect for a short stay for work! My colleague and I were worried the Tavern could lead to loud nights, but the rooms are situated towards the back and far enough away that it is actually very quiet (barely any street noise). It was simple accommodation but great value for money and quite clean. We especially appreciated the air conditioning and fridge! Our rooms were also refreshed and clean towels were provided which was a real treat. We found the location to be very central with good options for food and activities around.

While we had everything we needed, there were some odd gaps in the amenities provided (e.g., an ironing board, but no iron; fridge but no microwave). Absolutely not necessary items but worth noting. The mattress was also slightly lopsided but still quite comfy.

Absolutely great location, close to bus stops and food options. The tavern was amazing, staff were great, beds were very comfortable.

Arrived early, staff member checked & room was ready. Didn’t get her name, but, thank you.not sure why no microwave in room, my only guess is for guests to eat at the tavern.

I chose the Gateshead Tavern because of its proximity to Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. The room was clean and had all basic necessities.

We are dinner on the Saturday night. It's only a bar menu. The food was ok. I think there is some money to be made with the right chef there. Even if it's a short pub menu. Plz let me know if you would like a chef I'd be happy to come help

A very random booking which totally exceeded our expectations! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was entirely clean and comfortable. We were only there for one night but had everything we could need. The staff were kind enough to give us complimentary milk for our tea and coffee and they were always available to support or answer any questions. Check-in and out was simple and easy and there was an available park right out from of our room which was very convenient. Probably the best sleep I've had in ages, too. Would totally recommend if you're after a budget stay. It's hardly a drive out of Newcastle town, so you're not too far away from the happenings.
