Pros +
- Wonderful time staying at Viajero, all the staff were amazing, the bartenders were attentive and lovely especially Jazmine; brilliant hostel
- The staff was friendly, cost was fair, very clean, and enjoyed the programming. Went to two yoga classes right upstairs from my room.
- The location was great, I walked to the same cafe each morning for breakfast. All the events were fun and I really enjoyed everyone I met from all over the world there.
Cons -
- It's important to know it's at the top of a hill, lots of walking required to get home. But it's close to the main part of town. Beds were clean but super duper firm and not very comfortable.
- The storage locker was a little too narrow to reach most of my things, but there's not much you can change about that. It would've been nice to know that I could've brought my own lock to use on my storage. My first night I had a bunkmate who snored very loud the whole night and I had to keep punching the barrier between us to get him to stop, but that's a part of the bargain with staying at a hostel so I can't complain too much.
- I just didn’t love the big hill you walk up ? but, hey gets you in shape! lol

I love the friendly inviting staff that welcome you in! Everyone is so helpful and informative. The hostel had a very fun vibe! Love the roof top patio/ bar because of the view! They have awesome pizza and great service as well. The brunch is also quite nice and refreshing! And I can’t forget about having the Luxury of the pool! There is always something going on so you never feel alone as well! I would stay again!
I just didn’t love the big hill you walk up ? but, hey gets you in shape! lol
SHOUTOUT to the staff at VIAJERO:Jasmine bartender @ the rooftop was awesome, Maleja & Diego @ the front desk were so helpful 100% Cleaning staff did a great job daily! The private room is PERFFECT for a solo traveler. Would return!
If they provided a bit more variety with their tours. More options for transport from the hotel, karts, tours, etc.
My favourite things: comfy bed, the hammock and swinging bed, great guacamole, lovely views, towel rental, pool, free book and things swap in the foyer, respectful dorm mates:)
My least favourite things: top of a steep hill and so many stairs, no hot water, no ability to turn down A/C at night.
The people you meet, the activities, how friendly is the staff.
The WIFI doesn’t reach my room, and it’s slow in some parts of the hostel. The lockers are located on the bottom of the bunk beds.
The social events
Very few chairs around the pool had to dit on the hard concrete pool patio
Nice pool, restaurant and bar. Good views from the rooftop bar.
TV didn’t work and toilet was a little temperamental. Some of the staff were pretty unfriendly, others were great
The bartender Yazmin and Alex are amazing folks!!!!
I wish the pool could stay open a tad bit later.
The staff was amazing, and the coolest/kindest travelers were attracted to this hostel. I extended my stay by two nights because of the social aspect, because you'll never get bored or be alone (if you want to). I would have had fomo otherwise.
There is no air conditioned common space, which was only an issue for me when it rained and when I had to work.
What I liked the most was the staff working at Viajero. Every single person was incredibly kind, helpful, and always attentive to anything I needed. They made me feel truly welcomed, almost as if I were part of their family and had known them forever. That personal touch created such a warm atmosphere that it turned my stay into a memorable and unique experience, especially thanks to Nico and Jaz who were excellent hosts and made everything even better.
Honestly, there was nothing I didn’t like. Everything about my stay was perfect, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Pleasant stay, the pizza was good. Thanks to Jasmine, Victoria, Nico, Oswaldo, Alex, Carla
there are a lot of stairs and it feels all a bit fragmented (kitchen, bar, restaurant)
Always amazing staying here, with a lively scene, friendly staff, and excellent facilities. Wasn't my first stay and won't be my last!
Nada.
In the perfect location! We had a private room and all had our own beds. As we had a private room we also got aircon throughout the day which you only get it from 8pm through to 8am if you are in a dorm. The facilities were all great too! Cool spot to overlook the ocean.
We were disappointed with several aspects of our stay, particularly regarding cleanliness and communication. The biggest issue was the extremely unsanitary condition of the pool. There were huge chunks of hair floating in the water — not just a few strands, but thick clumps that actually stuck to our skin, which was honestly sickening. There was also a band-aid and other floating debris, making it very clear the pool hadn’t been cleaned. We swam once and immediately refused to get back in. What made it worse is that we didn’t see anyone clean or maintain the pool during our entire stay — very concerning given that it’s a shared facility used by many guests. The water level was also very low, with the first step completely dry and the second barely submerged. It gave the clear impression of poor hygiene and lack of upkeep.Additionally, while we paid for air conditioning, there was no remote in our room when we arrived. We were boiling hot on the first day until we went to reception and requested it. The aircon remote should really be in the room ahead of guest arrival. Our room was located directly beneath a metal staircase that leads to the pool, and it was very noisy whenever people were walking up and down. This made it hard to relax, especially early in the morning or at night. Also, it would have been helpful to receive prior notice about the ongoing construction surrounding the building — the noise wasn’t the main issue, but the view was significantly affected and will likely get worse as the buildings around it are completed. Finally, there was confusion around the breakfast. At check-in, we were told the discounted rate included tea, coffee or juice and one menu item, but when we went to eat, we were told juice wasn’t included — and they didn’t even have any. This inconsistency left a bad impression. The location was convenient, and some staff were helpful, but overall we felt the property didn’t meet basic standards of hygiene or communication.
This is a gorgeous hostel located on a hill with a wonderful view of the surrounding area. The beds were comfortable other than being pods and not having a fan for air circulation. We had an issue with our shower and they fixed it right away! Very friendly staff, clean facilities and a nice roof top bar and restaurant. Was great having a pool at the property as well
Not an accessible hostel by any means, unless you stay on the ground floor. It is 5 stories tall, so be preapred to walk a lot of stairs and the hill to enter the hostel. The front doors are not locked at night with no staff at the desk, so didnt feel very secure.
The staff were all very friendly, especially Jasmine. She welcomed us with a smile and great attitude each time we saw her. The events on each night were also very fun, I’d highly recommend to others coming to sayulita.
This is my 5th viajero hostel to stay in. I have stayed montevideo Uruguay, Lima Peru, Medillin Colombia, Buenos Aires and now salyulita mx. The reason is meeting other travelers from around the world. VIAJEROS promotes meets and greets, pub crawls and more. My only complaint here is it is located at top of a BIG hill which sucks in flip flops. Same for no elevator for 6 floors. Great exercise tho!!! Looking forward to Viajeros hostel in Oaxaca in 2 months.
Staff made everything amazing. Private rooms were great
The construction noise + roosters
Staff was excellent specially Pao, Esteban and Nico. Thanks for making this a great experience
