    Pros +

    • Nice place in front the lagoon. Beautiful, clean, good staff. 100% recommended.
    • Location and some service minded staff
    • We hardly ever left the hotel, it had everything we needed - a very good restaurant (though quite pricey), beautiful views, great pool, nice outdoor jacuzzi… Rancho Encantado is a great place to stay, and after spending 3.5 weeks in Mexico - the best place we stayed in Mexico.

    Cons -

    • High cost.
    • A bit outdated rooms and facilities and no so comfortable beds
    • Something to take in mind if coming with toddlers - the place is full with water safety hazards. It might be anywhere in bacalar since the access to the lagoon is usually through decks that go into the water and have no side rails. But the one thing that prevented it from being a fully relaxing vacation was the fact that we couldn’t get our eyes off for a second. Also - The morning restaurant staff were so unpleasant comparing to the evening staff, not sure what’s the difference between the management but it was a totally different experience. While food was really great also in breakfast, the experience and service were all leaving bad taste.

Breakfast was enjoyable and well-prepared. However, given the price of the stay and the relatively low cost of food in the area, it would have been reasonable for breakfast to be included. The quiet atmosphere during the low season was a plus, and we appreciated how easy it was to book the pontoon boat tour. Also, dinner options were noticeably overpriced for the value provided.

The room was not cleaned prior to our arrival, which was disappointing. Fortunately, the issue was addressed promptly after we reported it. However, there were not enough pillows provided for all guests, and the shower had very low water pressure with minimal hot water. Additionally, resort staff entered our room despite the "Do Not Disturb" sign being displayed, which felt like a serious privacy concern.

The hotel has a lovely dock with hammocks. The staff is super friendly and resourceful.

    Can't think of anything, really.

The private lagoon...seing the howler monkeys

Had no tvs but not a deal breaker.

The place and Location, it's my second visit to Rancho, and I really like the place and hospitality. Love the privacy and comfort.

The quality and cost of the restaurant is not proportional, Food was very greasy and the menu it’s very monotonous, so after 2 days you don’t have many options. In my previous visit the food was incredible, this time was disappointing

Nice sized property. Good views. It well shaded. Bungalows with a lake view are really nice particularly the Lovely outside area. Nice pool area. Boat trip from the hotel dock around the lake was excellent. Helpful concierge service.

    Breakfast was a bit chaotic.

We liked everything , the food could have been more fine. But loved the hotel, lagoon access , swimming pool and hammock

Food was not to the standard at the hotel

The location & room were fantastic! The staff were friendly. We really enjoyed our lagoon trip with Abel. An excellent way to start off our stay.

Breakfast was good but slow - you need to allow an hour at least.

The location and the spirit of the place

The room offered was very different than the assigned in terms of design and privacy. We only took one meal there but it was the worst we had during our stay in Bacalar. Room smelled humid.

    6PavelPosted on: 2-24-2025

    - The hotel was generally nice- Nice pool- Good breakfast- Facilities- Town of Bacalar with lots of good restaurants- Rooms clean- Rooms by the lake are really beautiful and we booked one

    - Nobody helped us with our luggage- The lake water is NOT as clean as on pictures. In fact is regular muddy lake. Good for paddleboard etc but this is not the beach and sea! Pictures are misleading a lot to attract people.

    10KeithPosted on: 2-11-2025

Fabulous hotel right on the lake. We had a lakeside suite, which meant a large room with sofa and loungers on the decking by the lake. The room was very clean and comfortable and well protected against mosquitos! Very nice bathroom. Good on-site restaurant, if a bit pricey. Staff are lovely. Decent pool and free kayaking. It's not the cheapest option in the area, but you get what you pay for!

    10JanetPosted on: 2-2-2025

Everything!!! Seeing monkeys, hearing the lagoon lapping the shore at night, private swim dock and swimming at sunrise, napping in the hammock, very helpful and lovely staff, gorgeous space, the food in the restaurant…could go on and on!Worth every penny to stay in a bungalow.

    Nothing…

    9CatrynPosted on: 1-5-2025

Amazing location on the lagoon. Make sure you have a room with direct lagoon views. Take the lagoon tour.

Restaurant food is expensive for what it is. Reception check in experience was clunky.

    6NicolasPosted on: 1-3-2025

Good communications before and during stay (by WhatsApp); umbrellas provided in room

Flat with own jetty/lagoon access had scruffy garden and too shady and obstructed views; breakfast quality left room for improvement (chilaquiles were lukewarm, bland and soggy; next day coffee was cold and cinnamon rolls were soggy like they had sat in water; poor organisation of service); only 5 kayaks for the entire property, the two times we went in the morning we got the last kayak each time); swimming pool (not that I would have used it anyway) was murky and smelly. The place overall lacked Charme and was in my view significantly overpriced for the area

we loved the sweet welcome we received when we told them we were on our honeymoon. i anticipated the room to be slightly more private than it was (we were adjacent to the boat rental area and our private dock looked out directly to the 'shared' dock), but it was fine in the end and generally very quiet and calm. we had a great couples massage and loved that the massage house was positioned over the lagoon with glass floor! the hotel arranged a seamless airport transfer from Chetumal - communicating with the reception via whatsapp was easy and helped to arrange things in advance. the restaurant was generally good and overall the experience was lovely. oh and the purified water in the room + the provision of beach towels was great!

there were a lot of children and families at the property (understandably as it was the high season), so we never felt like relaxing at the shared pool. thankfully our room had a private jacuzzi! I would have loved some additional floor lighting options in the bedroom, as it was a naturally dark space, but it really didn't matter.

we stayed in a cabana right in the lake. It was lovely and tranquil

The quality of the food in the restaurant is not commensurate with the price. Staff in the restaurant were great.

The surroundings are beautiful, full of lush greenery, the food is excellent, and the grounds are expansive. The staff is very attentive and helpful.

Everything we needed to enjoy our stay was provided on site. The suite was spacious, very clean and well provisioned. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant had excellent food and drinks. Plus there were kayaks and paddle boards available to use all day
