Cons -
- The mosquitos. Not the hotels fault.
- Early yoga class canceled & no one went to let us know, hence we woke up early and waited for a while. We did not received everything we payed for in a Boat tour booked through Habitas. One staff member was rude to us when making a special request.
- The downside of this place is that the restaurant only offers expensive food, and you don’t have another option unless you take a taxi to town. It feels like a trap.

Met every expectation plus plus plus
It is in great shape, luxurious, peaceful, and beautiful. The staff is friendly and easy, and attentive. We loved it.

I absolutely LOVE everything about this property, the rooms are so cozy, functional, and have AC. The outdoor shower is AMAZING. And the food and staff are phenomenal! The lagoon of course takes the cake, situated on a property that has a beach style entrance to the lagoon is the best. This was our 2nd time and loved it just as much as the first!
The menu didn’t really change from the last time we came 3 years ago, so it would’ve been nice to have more/ different options!
Clean, good food
Bees in the drinks from the bar. Accsess to the water could be more comfortable.
The location was amazing and the facilities were great.
Food and activities were overpriced.
Gorgeous hotel right on the lagoon in a quiet area nestled in the jungle. We called it "White Lotus - Mexico" because it felt like it was right out of the TV show. Rooms are freestanding cabins and very comfortable. Loved the outdoor showers! At night the paths were lit with votive candles which was incredibly beautiful.
Prices where a bit high for Bacalar but still less than what you would pay for this level of luxury elsewhere.
it’s one of my favorite resorts in the Yucatan. The location can not be beat, the staff is amazing, the food is always wonderful.
It’s a rustic eco lodge setting and needs maintenance. the mold situation in the tents is serious and uncomfortable.
Comfortable, peaceful, incredibly scenic and with a Michelin star restaurant to boot! Excellent eco lodge with amazing staff. Nothing to complain about from us!
Staff, facilities, rooms and food all excellent
Sunscreen is not permitted if you go in the water due to the delicate ecosystem of the lake, this wasn’t a problem but there wasn’t enough shade to accommodate all the guests, however the staff were very helpful to put up and move lounge umbrellas.
Great facility, very harmoniously positioned in a fragile ecosystem. Great staff. Very pleasant deck on the Laguna.
Most of us require shade on the deck. It is not the case and they could very easily fix the problem. We were not the only ones with the same problem
We stayed for 2 nights, it was perfect. We had been partying for 4 nights in Tulum so needed some RnR.The beds were comfy and we loved the outdoor shower
the wait staff at the property were kind and attentive during our stay. Unfortunately, their efforts were overshadowed by the broader failures in communication and guest service management.
I am writing to share the deeply disappointing—and frankly unsafe—experience my partner and I endured at Habitas Bacalar. Despite its beautiful setting, the guest service was shockingly poor, marked by appalling communication failures and negligence that impacted our entire stay.1. Early Check-In CatastropheWe arrived at 9:00 AM after requesting early check-in the day before. The staff assured us they’d try to accommodate us. Upon arrival, we were told the room might be ready by 12:00 PM, but we would be notified via WhatsApp—the property’s only form of communication. From that point, every message we sent went unanswered for hours or was ignored entirely. We waited in limbo from 10:00 AM until after 3:00 PM without access to our belongings—no sunscreen, no essentials, no clear updates. Staff on-site brushed us off with vague “just a little longer” assurances. Finally, at 3:10 PM (late for even standard check-in), we were given our room. Worse, we learned the delay was because the previous guests had done a late check-out—information that could have been communicated earlier, saving us a day of waiting in frustration and discomfort.2. Medical Emergency IgnoredAt 1:00 AM, my partner developed a fever. With no phones, no concierge, and no signal on the property, I messaged the hotel via WhatsApp asking for help—a thermometer, paracetamol, anything. No response for 5 hours. At 6:00 AM, they finally replied to say they had paracetamol but no thermometer. An hour later, they backtracked, saying they only had aspirin. A property of this caliber lacking basic medical supplies, first aid, or 24-hour emergency communication is inexcusable. What would have happened in a real emergency? This was not just poor service—it was dangerous negligence.3. Departure DelaysOn our final morning, we requested luggage assistance for 7:00 AM as the distance from our room to the front desk was nearly 1 km and required a golf cart through the jungle.
The serene lakeside location offers a perfect retreat, with rooms beautifully integrated into the jungle setting. The restaurant deserves special mention for its excellent cuisine and warm, attentive service.
The proximity to the highway means occasional traffic noise, though its intensity remains low and varies with wind conditions. While relaxing by the lake, ambient music from nearby venues can sometimes be heard. The front desk staff’s demeanor could be more welcoming, particularly given the property’s wellness focus.
Great service, stunning accomodation, amazing food and nice yoga
Nothing!
The lake is so peaceful
Staff , Food, entertainment, smell of rooms .Very sweet people and not able to serve a hot meal or take an English order . Very limited and small property . It feels like they just opened last week and nothing is ready the only person was the manager who is very friendly without sufficient support…
Breakfast was exceptional. Very generous portions and healthy variety. The staff were so friendly and helpful, always working so hard. The location was so serene and peaceful. I loved the activities provided - the yoga, sound therapy, and painting were so enjoyable.
Dinner and drinks were quite pricey but very good despite this. Lots of mosquitoes since it is in the middle of the jungle, so make sure to pack good bug spray!
Spectacular hotel in the middle of the jungle. Rooms are like one big tent with hot water and AC. The showers are outside.Breakfast by the laguna is so good. The staff is so welcoming and attentive. They have different classes every day (yoga, meditation..) and a canoe to use for free. The laguna is right by the hotel. Very relaxing stay. There are not many mosquitoes. There was a tropical storm while we were there and the rooms moved with the wind. Slightly scary.
The parking is a bumpy muddy road. There is a light smell in the rooms because of the material the rooms are made of.
