    • I liked the flexibility the staff provided with our late check in and the mix up with our rooms. They were very accommodating and made good on some booking issues. I loved that we could use the SUP's and kayaks for free at the property!
    • Amazing view of the lagoon , nice swimming pool and lots of areas to relax
    • The room was very boho. Very comfortable. The quick walk to the water. Property is beautiful. Very pet friendly. We liked everything.

    Cons -

    • There was a consistent mildew smell in the room unfortunately.
    • I liked everything
    • The walkway to the chairs overlooking the water need a little repair, there was a nail or 2 that needed to be hammered in. Otherwise, everything was great.

The location of this place is unbeatable. I'm going to miss watching the sunrise from their lovely dock which has hammocks, seats and a roof. Gary at the reception was excellent, he really cares about his clients and the whole athmosphere of the place was lovely. The included breakfast is hands down the best I've had. It has a great selection of freshly cooked delicious options (chilaquiles, omelette, eggs, pancakes, etc) plus tropical fruits with granola and yogurt, and all the coffee you want.

Great views and location. Friendly staff and a nice relaxed vibe

People getting up early for the sunrise and making a lot of noise. If you are in the glamping rooms then the noise travels very easily! We had 2 mornings of French people shouting across the garden to each other at 5.30!

Casabakal in Bacalar was a lovely stay! The staff were very friendly, the food was good, and while the rooms were standard, they were comfortable. The hotel is small, but it felt cozy. The highlight was definitely the amazing view — absolutely stunning!

Beautiful location on the lake. Great included breakfast every morning with our stay. Lovely staff and lovely friendly family vibe. Our glamping hut was cute as well, upscale and very clean and comfortable bed. Very relaxing stay. We had free access to paddle boarding and kayaking which was a lot of fun.

We didn’t loved the shared toilets / showers but that’s what you get with glamping I suppose! They could’ve been kept a bit cleaner / one shower barely worked at all.

I loved the property...so lush, right on the water, a variety of rooms to choose from, kayaks included.

Totally my fault for not completing my research, but I chose a room with no bathroom attached. Not a huge problem, it all worked out.

Beautiful location just a few steps away from the lagoon!! Amazing views and delicious breakfasts! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Just a couple blocks away from many restaurants and shops

This is our third time in Casa Bakal and this is what we still love: 1. The location2. Complimentary use of kayaks & paddle boards3. The relaxing vibes (the playlist they have all day is amazing)4. The open spaces. You feel free with all the green areas they have.

This is our third time in Casa Bakal and this is what we don’t love anymore as prices keep increasing but comfort and convenience are immensely decreasing in quality. 1. Breakfast. They used to have a buffet in the mornings which was convenient for everybody (guests & staff). It was convenient for Guests to have the food ready to take as it was quick; now it’s a table service and the service is poor. We waited over an hour to have our eggs served. We had to remind the staff about our breakfast. Not enough cutlery and no coffee cups available for all Guests. The options for breakfast are just ok, they’re not wonderful as they used to be. We believe the lack of staff is a major issue, as they’re making the best they can with only 2-3 employees serving breakfast. 2. Room. They removed the mosquito net from the cabins (at least our cabin didn’t have one). There was a frog in the room (which a gent of the staff helped us taking out). The shower head could be fixed as it feels like it’s falling down (not a big deal as it’s working just fine). The curtain is one single piece which makes uncomfortable to leave the room and close it properly. 3. The bar. They don’t have all items listed in the drinks menu as they didn’t have all the ingredients to make the drinks, which means whomever is in charge of inventory and stock is not doing a proper job. 4. For all the green area they only had 1 umbrella. They definitely need to have umbrellas wherever they have sun loungers. 5. They used to have complimentary coffee available all day, they don’t have it anymore. 6.In the past we would’ve never thought of staying anywhere that was not Casa Bakal. Now, we’re thinking of changing hotel for our next stay.

We loved the property. Great location with a short swim to the best sand barQuiet and comfortable

There was not enough kitchen equipment. No knives, bowls, etc. Most importantly not enough umbrellas and lounge spaces. Tarps on the palapas looked terrible.

    7FilippoPosted on: 3-21-2025

Location. It’s one of the few hotels with direct access to the lagoon and large space for loungers to chill.

Most of facilities are run down. Stuff is friendly but doesn’t speak english

    10JonPosted on: 3-16-2025

Wonderful place. Very serene. Staff was great. Breakfast was good. I would definitely come back.

    9AlejandraPosted on: 3-1-2025

    1. It’s the perfect location in the lagoon. 2. The staff are super friendly. 3. It’s dog friendly. 4. The included kayaks, paddle boards & breakfast. 5. The breakfast variety (fruits, juices, coffee, eggs, Mexican breakfast, yogurt, pancakes) 6. The security person by the entrance all the time makes you feel safe. 7. 3 different piers. 8. At an additional cost they offer alcohol and non-alcohol drinks as well as meals during the day.

    1. The bathroom needs maintenance as it was rusty. 2. The rooms are not soundproof which is not nice if you’re in the room next to the road :( 3. At the entrance of the room there should be a floor mat to wipe your feet. 4. Too many wasps and bees during breakfast. It would be a great idea to close the dining area with glass doors so we avoid having bees next to our food.

The location was great! Very well kept grounds and best was the very friendly staff! The music played around the pool was appropriate for a laid back relaxing holiday!!

    9MarkosPosted on: 2-21-2025

The place is really good located, just on the shore of the Lagoon. We used both the kayaks and the paddle SUP and it was great. The staff is nice and the atmosphere too.

The cabins have no bathroom, so either for toilet or for the shower we needed to use the communal bathroom. This was known in advance, but I though that there will be more that only two toilets, which are shared even with no-guest visitors of the restaurant.

    10RafaelPosted on: 2-20-2025

The rooms are clean, the restaurant serves delicious food, the bar prepares any cocktail of your choice and its feet away from the lagoon.

Not being able to stay longer.

    7BeaPosted on: 2-17-2025

The location of this hotel is beautiful - on the edge of the lagoon with a pier that you can swim from. They also provide paddleboards and kayaks between 9 am and 5 pm for guests to use and can arrange boat trips direct from the hotel. It was lovely to sit by the water for breakfast or for a drink in the bar. Unfortunately our room was in the old block and as other reviews have stated, it needed updating - there is no hanging space and very little cupboard space. It was noisy as it is above the food serving area which had swing doors with banged together every time anyone went through them. The shower was little more than a trickle. However, we did have a lovely balcony looking out over the water although this wasn't private as it was shared with the room next door. It's about a 30 to 40 minute walk into the town from the hotel which we enjoyed and it was very easy to get a taxi back. The town has a great choice of restaurants and little shops, and the municipal board walk through the nature reserve is well worth visiting as is the cenote azul.

    8ShaheedPosted on: 2-17-2025

It was lush and green with a beautiful view of the lagoon and great activities such as kayaking, swimming, and jet skis. It was also quite relaxing.

It’s not really their fault, but there were a few rowdier younger guests that didn’t regard the quite hour regulations. Overall, the vibe is very calming and relaxing. Also, be careful when booking. We were in a group of friends, one couple booked a room with no adjoining bathroom or showers.

Location is wonderful. Good was good.

No hairdryer. Needed more chairs outside of rooms in the garden.
