Onrock Boutique Hotel

Location was great, staff was friendly, breakfast had many options and rooms were enough for a short stay. The pool had a super nice view of the mountain.

It is a bit challenging to take a tuktuk or even a car there as it is up in the hill with a narrow road but other than that nothing to complain about. Thank you!

View was incredible, food was excellent, both breakfast & dinner.

Toilet was a bit tight, suited us but if we were any taller then the gap between the seat and shower screen would be an issue.

LOVED this hotel. We had an amazing view of Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak. We loved sitting out on our balcony and enjoying the serenity. It’s very close to the main street of Ella but far enough away so you can’t hear music or people which was good. Great breakfast with Western and Sri Lankan options. This accommodation was the highlight of the trip so far.

No issue for us but you have to walk up a very steep hill from town (5 min walk) or get a tuk tuk.

Bathroom a little too small

The property was located in a central part of Ella town and it’s surrounded by shops and restaurants. The staff are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Their attention to details and level of service is superb - they’re extremely warm, welcoming and ready to help out with whatever you need. Special thanks to Suresh, SuPun and the rest of the staff for making our stay amazing.

We stayed in a Deluxe King Room with breakfast included. The room itself was lovely. On the top (4th) floor with a lovely view out over the valley and Ella Rock. We could see a waterfall from our room. Balcony was lovely. The view was really amazing. Bed was comfortable. The hotel is up quite a steep driveway/road from the main street. This gave us lovely views and we were away from the noise of the main street. The breakfast the next morning was nice, although the choice was a little more limited than other places we stayed in Sri Lanka. There is an elevator.

The bathroom was rather small, and a slightly odd design. There wasn't really anywhere to put our toiletries, and everything was a very tight fit.The main issue we had was with the somewhat grumpy and unhelpful man at the front desk. It really tainted our interaction with this hotel.A really big issue for us is that we were travelling with a driver, and it seems because we had booked using Booking.com, even though the driver's accommodation did have room that night (we checked through the informal drivers network that exists in Sri Lanka), our driver was not allowed to stay there, so he needed to find alternative accommodation. If we had known this we would have tried harder to find a way to book directly with Hotel Onrock - at the time we booked (Jan 2025) we could not find a website that allowed direct booking. Checking again just now, it looks like they now have a website that allows direct booking (c2025). This is something to consider if you are travelling with a driver. Next time we would choose a different hotel in Ella.

Wow! As soon as we walked into our room the view of the mountains (Little Adams Peak) was breathtaking. We set our alarms and watched the sunrise from our balcony. The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. The buffet breakfast was lovely and included freshly cooked omelets, waffles and pancakes. Located a short (but hilly) walk to the town centre and walking distance to the Nine Arches bridge. The staff were all extremely friendly & helpful.

Best hotel in town honestly. The room is perfect and such a nice view, everything is clean and we feel home. Staff super kind and helpful, want to highlight Kavindu, the sweetest with the best hospitality skills! Breakfast super good from kind kitchen team 3/4min by walk from the city center and very accessible to start the two famous hikes. Highly highly recommended

The distance to the hotel is very difficult with the family there. The electricity is cut off frequently and there is no hot water for showering in the evening.

The staff here are excellent. Everyone smiles and is very helpful. Very comfortable, clean and spacious rooms. Decent breakfast. The view from ours on the third floor was stunning. 180+ degree views down the valley, little Adam's peak etc. Definitely recommend.

Nothing (although some people might not like the walk up from Ella as it's very steep but only about 5 minutes or you can get a tuktuk)

Hotel was well located just a few mins off from the main strip of hotels and restaurants in Ella. It was also a 20 mins walk to the Nine Arch Bridge. You can just get Tuktuks at the bottom of the road. staff were friendly and helpful and it was very well priced. Room was spacious, must of been just recently done. We also had beautiful views of the mountains in the distance from our balcony. The hotel also organised our private taxi from Colombo to here (5 hour journey) which was fab help. It was around £80 for a private car.

I would have expected a turnover service but our room was never made during our stay. There was also construction noise as they look like they are creating a pool or expanding so I’m sure that will end soon. Didn’t bother us but might be worth checking.

Lovely hotel. Staff were so lovely and welcoming and made us feel so special. They were so lovely with my son. Room was clean and comfortable, with incredible views overlooking Ella’s rock and Little Adam’s Peak. Food was really good too, we had dinner and breakfast and everything was cooked fresh for us by the lovely chefs. Perfect location for exploring Ella! We chose to get tuktuks as didn’t want to walk up the hill but they are super cheap. Ella has so much to offer, I wish we had longer. Would definitely recommend.

We expected a slightly better place based on the photos. The view we got included a large electric pole right in front of us. The bathroom had drainage issues, and it took over 10 minutes for the hot water to arrive. The breakfast was quite sparse.

Hotei Onrock is an excellent choice for a stay in Ella. The hotel is spotlessly clean; the staff are attentive, warm, welcoming, and responsive to individual needs; is located close to Ella’s restaurants and shops albeit up a steep hill. My only criticism is that we found the bed mattress too hard.

The hotel has a fantastic view of Ella Rock and Ella Gap which was wonderful at both sunrise and sunset. We had a pleasant stay. The hotel is clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There are works going on at the moment to build a rooftop pool which I’m sure will be lovely when complete.

A few minor details which could be improved. The balcony doors do not seal when locked and so bugs are able to come into the room freely, unfortunately we had a fair few ants trying join us. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the bathrooms are rather small and we had some issues with the hot water.

The staff were very friendly which we have found is the case across Sri Lanka. It is in an excellent location close to Ella Main Street. Just be aware it’s up a steep hill so those with mobility issues will either need Tuk Tuks or to find alternative accommodation. We highly recommend going to Golden Temple restaurant at the bottom of the road for dinner (by far our best culinary experience of the trip). However, this hotel did not exceed our expectations. It was booked last minute but please be aware there is a lot of construction work occurring that is very noisy and also means there aren’t as many facilities as in other hotels (at the moment). The hairdryer needed an adapter which reception are happy to supply for you and the TV did not work and was not fixed when asked. The shower door was a sliding door but there’s a gap so if you aren’t careful, water spills out onto the floor making it slippery. The breakfast was a buffet and was okay, nothing special. This was our most expensive stay in Sri Lanka and was not worth the money. Once all of the building work has been completed and we believe there is a pool being made, it will be more worth the money.

Over all everything was perfect in the property , location and view was amazing. Staffs were very friendly. Love the stay.
