Pros +
- Excellent Breakfast, very friendly staff, well maintained pool area. Excellent restaurant Maxim is part of hotel. Very good bus connection to Heraklion, the airport and other cities.
- The location of the hotel is very convenient, although it is slightly away from Heraklion city center (about 20-25 minutes by bus). Beach is close and overall quiet area. Bice to have a restaurant with great dishes served the whole day. The pool is decent and enough beds for all. Breakfast was nice and stuff is really really friendly.
- Great location and happy friendly stuff. Tasty food. Close to the beach. Cats at the property. Bus stop in front of the hotel, 30 mins till Heraklion.
Cons -
- Refrigerator very old and noisy in room, needed to turn it off at night. Bathroom water dripping.
- The A/C seemed like did not work OK in our room, always it took time to cool the room down when switching on, even though the temperature was set to minimum. The parking slot is very tight, consider that when selecting a car for rent.
- Not much variety of food choices. Almost a week with the same breakfast and dinner was a little hard at the end.Small shower without a door, water splashed all over the bathroom.

Breakfast was limited, hot food not so hot. but options are good
the pool was cold! would be great if you had a heated pool!!
Staff were friendly & helpful. Room & bed was nice. Pool was good (some leaves needed cleaning). On-site parking was handy. Close to a beach & restaurants at night. Breakfast was decent. Shower worked well. Ate Greek food at the restaurant & it was ok too.
District was a little ‘industrial’.
Had to book in due to partner being hospitalised. Spotlessly clean modern room.Bathroom superb. staff brilliant, helpful and sympathetic. would return in an instant under different circumstances. Thanks all at the Castro Hotel.
It was an excellent room with a view of the mountains, it is well situated to where we wanted to be, good food and friendly staff
We had big and comfy apartment with 2 balconies, newly renovated bathroom.?Personal was great, breakfast was good?Private parking available.
There were very few dishes in the kitchen.
Location. Near the airport. Very clean. Comfortable.
The staff very friendly, nice pool, well equipped rooms and good food at the restaurant.
Small shower, small two person bed and air conditioner that can't have the air flow intensity set as preferred.
Nice hotel with breakfast buffet and an onsite restaurant. The staff were very helpful. Harris, at the front desk was so sweet. She helped me with excursions around the island. It was a great, relaxing weekend.
We stayed for one night and this hotel was great for our needs. Good location (for a great family restaurant turn right from the hotel, walk for 3 mins to a restaurant on the left with a large windmill out the front - excellent food, atmosphere, and just brilliant for kids!). Our family room was a very good size and slept 4 comfortably, the room itself was very clean, the shower was powerful and the beds comfy.Breakfast was good and the restaurant is nicely set up with windows overlooking the street. Best to get there a bit earlier as stuff ran out, although the staff did top up most things. The staff overall were very nice and helpful.
The pool area is pretty basic and the pool was not that clean with cloudy water. Also, the pool doesn't open until 11 which seems a bit late. It's not somewhere I'd have wanted to hang out, not the most relaxing area. It was fine for us as we weren't there long, but it would put me off staying at this hotel for any longer.
Breakfast amazing with many choices. The restaurant in the hotel ( Taverna ) is perfect with multiple choices of food and drinks.Swimming pool was nice and well maintainted. AC very good
It’s easy to get to the hotel from the airport, just tell the taxi drivers the hotel name and they’ll know. Ride was 30€. You can also order taxi at the reception for a specific time during your departure, same price. You can extend your checkout if needed. The beach is roughly 4 minutes walk from the hotel, asphalt road (no hills or steps). Room was well air conditioned, we had a very large balcony, our room was the very end of the hallway, so our balcony was L shaped (big plus). Room service in the hotel is daily. Breakfast was nice (buffet). During breakfast there may be cats visiting to say hi, during dinner we had free fruits and shots of raki. The staff were always smiling, and they were very kind, very welcoming atmosphere, we felt welcome as well. Thank you for the time we could’ve spent at your hotel. We have enjoyed Crete to the fullest.
Shower was a bit small, I’m 185cm and if I were a bit taller I’d have to bend my neck, but I know in Greece there are smaller bathrooms overall so we didn’t mind.We didn’t have our towels/sheets changed during our stay (1 week), only once day before we were about to leave.
The hotel was very clean, we arrived late at night, the staff were so kind and easy going. Perfect stop for one night in Heraklion. We had a good breakfast and spent some time in the pool before we left.
Wonderful hotels with clean rooms and swimming pool, and staff here are all heartwarming
the location is excellent for those like me who have decided to have a holiday near the sea... the hotel is 15 minutes by bus from the center and an hour by bus from the airport. Very good bus service, bus goes every 10 min. Near the hotel there are beautiful beaches and lots of shops, bars, restaurants and car rentals. Excellent breakfast. Excellent Maxim restaurant with very friendly staff
The perfect hotel for stay in Gazi, Heraklion is near by so you can use bus. Very clean place. Hotel stuff very kind. We don't miss home in this days. Morning breakfast was very delicious. I wish I'll visit greece again for sure my stay only in this hotel..
Everything is perfect
Deluxe rooms are good in general. Easy access from or to the airport / Heraklion as the bus stops are front of the hotel. Good size pool and garden with sunbeds. Beach and shops are close by. Kind staff.
DINNER - always a surprise if you don't ask in advance what it would be as they did not bother to tell you in advance. Most horrible / awful canteen style local greek food served with no choice. Starter / salad + main meal and "dessert" probably not worth €5 in total per person. Even just the look is awful but the taste is horrible. After a few days you feel it's inedible. The desserts they serve are jokes... tiny sliced melons with one single cherry on top served in a one deciliter size of glass OR another one, literally 2 millimeter grated biscuit on the buttom of the glass with WHIPPED CREAM (instead of ice-cream) and HALF A COFFEE SPOON STRAWBERRY JAM ON TOP!!! Absolutely DISGUSTING!!! Last night for dinner we probably got some leftover rock hard bread that we were hardly able to break apart. It's actually a SHAME all of this food comes, prepared and served in the same, "famous" Maxim Restaurant & Cocktail Bar which got high reviews for their a la carte menu. Top of this Amudara / Heraklion is probably the worst place ever to stay in Crete. Has nothing to offer sadly apart from dirt... Beaches are dirty and particularly in Amudara close to Heaven beach you can find a little Chernobyl on the coast as well... Luckily we visited many other nice places like Agios Nikolaos, Bali, Rethimno, Chania, Balos and Elafonisi beaches and stayed in another hotel too (so we have comparison).Castro Hotel was overall a bad choice and huge disappointment for us especially because of the food. To the staff: I'm sorry guys, no hard feelings but smile and kindness does not compensate for the poor quality food.
Friendly stuff, clean hotel. Nice pool. Good location on the road close to the bars, markets, restaurants and bus station.
Lack of parking.
