Hotel Cecil

The room was big and very clean, good water pressure in the shower, big balcony. Breakfast was very tasty. The location was very good, a few minutes walk to Central station metro or to Indian Coffe house. College street is noisy during the day, but quiet in the night, so we slept very well. The staff was nice as well.

Very disappointed with the unprofessional behaviour

The hotel didn't honour the pricing quoted on the Booking.com and forced me to pay more price, and informed that if I disagreed they would cancel the booking and refuse the room. Never ever have I experienced such type of unprofessional behaviour from any hotel I have booked through Booking.com In fact the hotel forced me to cancel the booking on your portal

The bathroom did not drain well, there was a pool of water at the entrance to the bathroom. This was only a minor issue but could be improved easily by providing a mop

Great old Bengali style hotel, in a fantastic location. College Street is really interesting, and central. The hotel is clean, friendly, well looked after and very comfy. They helped us with everything and we had a lovely stay. And not expensive… great value for money.

We had the King Suite with Balcony, which was perfect for us to recover in after a long journey across India. Enjoyed the breakfast on our private balcony. Good location, and a short 10 minute walk to the Metro to explore the City.

The breakfast was really nice and tasty! We enjoyed every single one dish! The stuff was really helpful and polite too, they made our stay much better than we thought it will be. Thank you so much once more for your kindness!

If you really need to visit Kolkata (which I'd advice against) and you'd like to stay in a convenient central location at a reasonable price, Hotel Cecil should be your number one choice. Go for the King's Suite (the other rooms are rather small) and enjoy. The staff are really helpful and super nice, which I appreciated. There's a chance of a good night's sleep too because the beds are really comfy.

To say that I didn't like Kolkata would be an understatement, but obviously this isn't the hotel's fault! As far as the hotel goes, everything was great!

Breakfast - time to change a cook and menu bathroom - time to call a contractor - water stuck on the entrance will teach you how to practice long jumping required to restructure the toilet groundTV without channel doesn't call TV. Time to pay the subscription companyCurtains - privacy matters, be little conern and change the curtains - to small to hold end to end facing neibhour house roof garden, luckily he is on vacation.Size - too small, with 150sft in size, time to throw out some of the useless furnitures doesn't have any room to walk or usefulness. Offered 200+sft, recieved 150sft.Sound proof - No, we can hear every conversation from hall outside the room used for breakfast area, sitting area and staff sleeping area as well. No lift - 1,floor equal to two floors hight building, required to take 4 floor steps to reach 2nd floor room. People with knee pain, this is not an option.Expected 4 star, recieved 1 star, if you are not planned to reduce the rent, upgrade all above and fix the customer expectations. Value for money - felt like paid double. I spend days to analyze and set my expectations correctly by reading 100s of reviews and all available options in booking.com before making a right decision. I am trying to be honest and hoping that it's helpful. Lesson learned - stay more vigilant in booking the rooms, better to book different hotels for experience.

Good staff service and the owner could speak good English and was very helpful in general. Helpful in arranging taxis and guides for city tours and the airport. The room was a reasonable size with en-suite bathroom which was clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable with a good mattress. The usual noise of the city of Calcutta was evident but not too intrusive. Good location with many nice shops round about. Safe neighbourhood in general.

Perhaps the breakfast could have been a litlle bit better.

Location is great as it’s central and close to metro. Property is value for money, cleans and beds are comfortable. Staff are pleasant and even bought me sweets for my final night. As always a bit of maintenance in the bathrooms would be nice….but it’s a relatively budget stay so you get what you pay for I suppose

Food is not great

Very clean property with helpful staff. We stayed in the most expensive rooms and found them quite roomy, I think some of the other rooms are smaller. Good shower/ bathroom facilities. We availed of the laundry service and also had breakfast in our room each day both of which were good. Staff assisted us in getting taxi to Howrah station. We h had two separate stays in hotel in separate (largest) hotel rooms. Both stays were excellent, very happy with the service. It is in an area that is handy for getting to the centre of Kolkata and Howrah. The metro is a little bit of a walk away but we don't mind walking. There is a taxi rank across the road as well.

Everything ! Location, whole team, manager extremely helpful... A true Bengali hotel ! I also loved the breakfast, in-house cooking is excellent. Rooms very clean. A Kolkata nugget I discovered too late !

The staff was nice

The neighbourhood, opposite a hospital, very noisy, constant honking, very dirty outside. Could hardly sleep because of the noise, nothing to eat close bye, only streetfood that looks not very clean,
