    Pros +

    • It's great to stay in the heritage. I like to read the information card of the history. And, the common area is comfortable.
    • The staff was friendly and kind. There were activities catering to all ages, which was so nice for my family. It was very clean and comfortable. We appreciated the beautiful displays honoring the unique history of the prison.
    • All the place was very clear and tidy. The staff was very nice and help us with early check in.

    Cons -

    • I was at the upper bed, and it's difficult to charge my phone near me. Even in the common area it's also hard to find the socket that fits the international adapter.
    • We absolutely loved our stay! The parking was a little frustrating, but it all worked out.
    • There aren’t enough bathroom cells.

The concept of staying the night in a prison was exciting and we liked how it was genuine.

The bathrooms were filthy. I requested and received approval for a ground floor room - I was travelling with my elderly Grandmother and we wanted to stay here for a novel experience. When we arrived, we were told that our room was up two flights of stairs. I told them that this would be problematic and the receptionist shrugged and told me there were no other rooms and I could just cancel and she'd approve a refund. As it was late and my Grandmother was exhausted, we accepted the room and she struggled up and down the stairs. Thankfully we weren't staying longer - I would have found somewhere else to stay. Extremely disappointed by the situation and really disgusted by the lack of care or enthusiasm from the receptionist.

The staff was super nice and friendly. The rooms are cleaned daily and if you have an in-suite they clean it often as well. The property is well looked after. The kitchen is clean and spacious. Everything is well maintained. There’s CCTV cameras in the common area to make you feel safe. There’s enough bathrooms and showers for everyone.

Basically nothing, but if I have to say one thing I’ll say that the plugs are kind of hard to reach if you’re on the top bunk.

Unique location and bucket list destination to stay in a world heritage site. Comfortable rooms tucked into former prison wing.

Great location, easy walk to Rottnest island ferry terminal, train station, shops and cafes. Staff is excellent, helpful with everything we asked for, keeping the place clean and tidy.

Stated in the double room with private bathroom. As a family this was perfect. The room was comfortable, had it's own mini fridge and the bathroom was clean and well maintained.Whilst the private rooms are not in the main building (and old prison) you can walk around the rest and you can it was a prison. Also enjoyed reading the information up around the hostel, making it like a mini museum. The common areas were great and the staff helpful and cheerful. Location is also really good, next to the markets and the Fremantle Oval, which is nice for a WAFL game if it's the right time of year. Restaurants, bars and coffee shops etc all also very close by. Highly recommend.

I liked that it was always clean and well located.

If you're looking to meet people, this isn't the place. People aren't usually very friendly, and everyone was very wrapped up in their devices, closed off from sharing.

Location, location. Walking distance from everything and the ‘novelty’ of staying in a prison! Plus it was clean, comfortable and quiet!

Parking was a bit of an issue - although friendly staff pointed us in the right direction.

Location couldn’t have been better considering we were attending a Secret Opera which was held in the prison!Great to actually stay in part of the prison.

Parking was pricey but free street parking is available within a 10-15 min walk.Disappointing to find so many people didn’t bother to wash their dishes leaving the communal kitchen in a mess.

    10KristianPosted on: 5-2-2025

The rooms were clean. The showers were clean. Great open space for a kitchen with fridges. The place is a old prison which is cool.

Great facilities in terms of common areas, kitchen and laundry! Was a unique experience staying in an actual cell, it was clean and towels provided! Staff were very helpful and location was great to walk into Fremantle, also the prison tours were very interesting

It has more than one common/share place to chill so you can choose if you want to be in a more chill space or somewhere to socializa with others. Great kitchen and really clean. Ping pong table, a place to fill your bottle with fresh cool water. More than one bathroom and showers. A little more expensive than other hostels but its worth it, very confortable. Great place overall

They don't let you stay more than 2 weeks and you need to wait a month to stay there again, even if it is for just one more night

Location and simplicity with cleanliness and interesting history

I was woke by rowdy guests on Friday night and then by the closest pub on Saturday night. But putting the ac on helped to drown them out in white noise. It didn’t ruin the stay at all.

    8SiobhanPosted on: 4-21-2025

Interesting location and concept. I have never spent the night in prison.

Not enough toilets and showers. I guess the old building has limitations on what can be done with modern facilities.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hostel. Having slept in almost every room, I recommend the comfort of the four-person room with ensuite bathroom—unbeatable. Andy helped me with a problem with my lock and was the kindest and most attentive person there, making my stay unbeatable. Both the manager and Blair and Nacho were very friendly too and always willing to help. The atmosphere is very sociable, the cleanliness is perfect, and the facilities have everything you need and more. I 100% recommend it! The best hostel in the area.
