About

On a small island surrounded by the Krka River lies the rebuilt Otocec Castle Hotel, offering a perfect atmosphere for weddings, parties and business meetings. The castle was renovated, but kept the Gothic and Renaissance elements, creating a unique atmosphere of past times combined with the luxuries and comfort of today. A romantic dinner is only one of the unforgettable events you will take part in. The castle walls date back to 1252, and the Otocec is located in the picturesque lush region of Dolenjska, famous for its rivers, valleys, forests and vineyards. It is only a stone's throw from the town of Novo Mesto. The Castle Restaurant, awarded MICHELIN SELECTED, and Hotel Grad Otočec, holder of one MICHELIN Key, together embody exceptional culinary mastery and outstanding hospitality.

    Pros +

    • The most stunning views, such a privileged location. The staff are very welcoming, they made every detail of our stay special. The food was incredible, there are not enough words to describe! Congratulations to the chef!!
    • It's a castle! A really interesting and luxurious place to stay. It's a nice region, best explored with a car. The staff were all very professional and helpful.
    • The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The rooms were large and very comfortable. The food was terrific. I would love to return for a longer stay!

    Cons -

    • Loved everything
    • We happened to stay there the night the hotel was hosting a dinner for their parent company's marketing department (the hotel is owned by a pharma company), and the dinner went late and was very loud. We didn't book a luxury hotel in the middle of nowhere - literally on an island in the woods - to hear thumping bass coming through the floor of our room until 11 pm. It's a very pricey hotel and I found that disrespectful to the guests.
    • Breakfast was mediocre, somehow no yoghurt available for the muesli/ cereal. Not quite 10 points.

Great location and „castle“ atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff. Dinner was outstanding.

Breakfast was mediocre, somehow no yoghurt available for the muesli/ cereal. Not quite 10 points.

The staff was excellent — attentive and welcoming. However, the true highlight is the castle itself. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully prepared.Additionally, the location is both beautiful and peaceful, especially at this time of year, making it the perfect retreat.

The restaurant menu could be slightly improved, particularly with more options for children, which would be helpful for families traveling with kids. That said, please don’t get me wrong — the food itself was absolutely outstanding!

An interesting property in an medieval castle. Nice winter garden.

Upon arrival we were forced to book dinner at timing that was not suitable for us. The room was not ready although our reservation was prepaid many days before and we arrived after 18:30. The hotel DOES NOT HAVE SPA nor a swimming pool as advertised on booking.com. They offer free access to the spa of another hotel located across the bridge, about 500 meters away, but they don’t offer transportation, so you need to walk 500m In your towel and slippers in the winter ??‍♀️ staff is undertrained and the restaurant food was ridiculous for a Michelin star. No taste and awfully slow service. If you order a bottle of wine, be prepared to serve yourself the whole evening as they don’t attend. Two wrong meals arrived out of six ordered. Most unpleasant however was the big fat lie about the SPA.

    Food, Golf, atmosphere

More frequent change in the menu would be preferred.

Stunning location, great looking castle hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.

Although the room was stylish and a good size, the bathroom in comparison was very small and not very well lit … water could have been hotter.

The worst hotel of Relais and Chateaux chain. Old and non-working equipment

Very old hotel. Air condition didn't work at all. All the guests suffers from +30 heat in the rooms. Many mosquitos in rooms (due to absence of mosquitos nets) and outside near river.

Air-conditioning not working at all. We cancel 1 night we are very disappointed ?.

Lovely location and helpful staff. Beautiful room albeit background noise.

The facilities, such as they were, were all within the castle walls, we suffered from an internal corporate event restricting our stay, there was a constant annoying hum in the room (probably the water system) which the hotel staff tried to help with but couldn’t resolve, and the leisure facilities were at a different venue around 1km away across a main road. Sadly, an over-priced and disappointing venue.

Location and ambience were brilliant. Staff was exceptional! Best customer service ever. Access to the sauna and pool at sports centre.

Should include on information sheet about the automatic drying of bath tub and also the quirks of Google maps to get to the Toplice thermal baths.

We enjoyed a completely pampered stay - definitely a plus on a 10 week roadtrip abroad as the hotel afforded total downtime on what was otherwise a whirlwind tour of places we've never explored. The hotel is amazing for its location and history, and the wine tasting experience in the old castle tower was a highlight.

Fantastic location, a beautiful building, a comfortable big room, a good-sized bathroom, and very friendly and helpful staff.

The restaurant was closed for two days, bar food at least would have been great, the swimming pool was not at the location but another hotel.

This is all about the location. A wonderfully restored castle in a beautiful setting. A compliment to the interior designers - the decor may not be to everybody's liking but the "castle theme (in a modern sense)" is excellently carried out in so many details.Attentive service!Great wine list (and good advice from the restaurant staff regarding the wines, since they are little known outside of Slovenia)

Some small details not really worth mentioning, but one does have rather high expectations of an R&C hotel. Mainly that the quality of the food in the restaurant was not quite up to the level that this hotel promises. Nothing to complain about .. but not noteworthy either (maybe we had been spoiled too much at the R&C Kendov Dvorec where meals were extraordinary); great winlelist, though

This is a beautiful place to stay, lovely welcome drink on arrival and good coffee for breakfast.

Our room was way too hot and the air conditioning would not cool it down.

location was lovely! weather was appalling!?

the restaurant was closed and to start with we struggled to find anywhere to eat. Also background music a bit naff just stick with proper classical.
