Pros +
- Gorgeous scenery from moutain view room. Clean room condition.
- the view of MT Cook from the room
- The location was beautiful. Great view from balcony. Close to walking tracks. Dinner buffet was delicious.
Cons -
- I had to wait more than 30 minutes for check in. Receptioner was kind and friendly but it had too long line .
- Noise from running/jumping & slamming drawer/door by guests in upper floor every night/morning was very disturbing. Talked to staff each night but the situation didn't improve Is there not enough noise insulation or just my bad luck with an angry guest?
- Walls were thin and could hear people next door who were loud and slamming doors. Dinner buffet was great, but cleared our table before we were done twice and wrote on our ticket that we walked out, which was not true. Staff were apologetic however.

The views and location are incredible!!!
The rooms are very dated.
This location is absolutely exceptional. The views are gorgeous. The facilities are clean, stylish and peaceful. The staff were friendly and professional. Everything you need is in one place. The Hermitage is a true gem.
The property location is amazing with beautiful views, especially during a snowfall.
The beds were uncomfortable and old. It had snowed after an ice and the paths were iced over with no grit or anything down to help. The concierge staff were very condescending and really cold on check in. There were only two places to eat one is very expensive or one has school cafeteria equivalent food. The breakfast buffet was very expensive but the food was reasonable, and you can eat your fill. Parking here is tricky, especially if you have to drive to any of the restaurants or other locations, then parking is difficult to find.
Amazing location
Staff were unhelpful. Reception kept us waiting while they chatted amongst themselves. Very rude. Bar staff were similarly unhelpful/
the room was absolutely stunningly placed for spectacular views of the mountain in its full glory! Loved every minute. This venue is very busy, yet you never felt overcrowded or found staff flustered. They're composed friendly and very helpful. The food was next level! For the amount of people they have to prepare for, this was some of the best food I've had in the last 10 years in NZ! Both dinner and breakfast buffet! Loved every second of our time at The Hermitage Mount cook Hotel
It was a huge rugby game last night and the corner allocated for this is very minimilistic and with few seats which meant us crowd of 12 together with others couldnt fit, so a few of us went to our room and missed out on the fun downstairs.
The view of Mt. Cook from the room is very nice.
The water flow for taking a bath is rather weak and it's in the bathtub, which is not very convenient.
The rooms at the Hermitage are dated and tired, but you're paying for the location and view and those things deliver in spades. We arrived after dark and were in awe at the view when we awoke the next morning - Mount Cook directly out our balcony and it was stunning! The restaurants are very expensive, but again, understandable given the isolated location. We had the breakfast buffet and the food was very good - the view magnificent. It was memorable. You are paying for your location and view here and those things make the Hermitage totally worth the price. We really enjoyed our stay!
The rooms could stand a refresh, but they are very clean and adequate.
Views are nice.
I don't think this place has been updated for 40 years. It honestly felt like I was walking through a dodgy school camp or a hospital. The prices for everything were so egregious I had to laugh - $16nzd if you want to wash and dry your clothes! If you're thinking of staying here to do any of the tracks, save your money and just get a caravan or drive up from Twizel.
Standard room size, room, bathroom is clean. Hotel decor seems like going back in time, looks like hostel more than luxurious hotel. Pre-book and pay, check-in, pay extra to eat (at restaurant), sleep, check-out by 10am the next day.
Area of improvement Shampoo bottle is full and secured, but pump not working, for housekeeping to take note of.
Wonderful location and stunning views surrounding hotel. Nice personnel in reception, clean and comfortable room.
Its a beautiful place, room is spacious, staffs were friendly. View of mount cook from the room is amazing.
I think they are short staffed, I had to carry the luggage myself to my room. Eatery options are very limited, especially for dinner.
The view of the mountains in our room is UNBELIEVABLE! This hotel has everything that we wanted. Nice view, good food and accommodating staff
The room was comfortable, and the view from it was beautiful, making the stay more enjoyable. The location is excellent—very close to the campgrounds
The room felt quite old and lacked sufficient kitchen facilities.Parking was a major issue—there weren’t enough spaces available, and I had to drive around the hotel multiple times to find a spot. There was no proper arrangement or support from the management, which made it frustrating.Room service was also disappointing. I tried calling several times from the room to request two bowls, but no one responded. Eventually, I had to go to the restaurant myself to get them.
We like the location of the hotel truly convenient and beautiful. The bed and bathroom was spacious, comfortable and very cleaned. We had buffet dinner one night and the food was sumptuous and delicious. The Cafe food has a great selection and delicious with lots of seats but opens until 3:30pm. Plenty of parking. Has coin laundry. Checkin and checkout was quick. The entire team was friendly and helpful. It gets true dark at night so a flashlight can come in handy.
Location
Bathroom needed updating. Need to keep the cage area open all day as the dining room options were too expensive for what we wanted.
Smooth check in, good room service. Clean.
Needs some updates, new carpet, etc.
good location. good view.
Room facilities are average.
