The Spice Trail Hotel

The staff was friendly and helpful.

While the power was out to the entire area when we arrived, which we did not know, they thankfully had a generator. We arrived about a week after the Nov. ‘25 cyclone. The facility is a series of large bungalows in a nicely landscaped area. They were basic but clean & had small private garden space. Good location, but not sure where the actual beach was located.

Lovely rooms - spacious room well appointed and spacious bathrooms. Friendly and helpful staff.

The pathway to the rooms are not paved and during heavy showers the walkway was full of puddles which made it difficult to walk to our rooms. Also limited menu, though food is tasty, and personally, I was uneasy with the cats and dogs in the dining area.

Nice pool, large room, the accommodation is good, but a little bit expensive. Arugam Bay makes at the moment a change, the prices are getting high, when we came the last time many things changed (the restaurants and bars we knew, we’re not there anymore) and the service is for tourists

No beach access

We liked the staff they were helpful welcoming and warm even though we stayed over new year when most folks are on holiday. They even gave us some of their celebration foods. The rooms are very clean comfortable and spacious with really efficient aircon and fan. The waste water is recycled and used in the lovely garden. Rooms come with fridge kettle and fresh refillable drinking water availe all the time. The food in the restaurant was delicious and has a Japanese twist. There is a coffee shop right by the gate that sells excellent coffee and cake. They have a pool within a lush garden which gives some respite from the heat of the street. The pool is really clean and free for guests but public can use it for a fee. We loved our stay here so much we extended it for 2 nights. Whist the Spice trail doesn't back onto the beach it's right in the centre of Abay and just across the road from the beach. This was a favourite place to stay for us ❤️ Thank you Spice Trail team you are great! a special shout out to the lovely smiley gardener who alway met us with a wonderful smile ? we hope to return some day. 10 /10 ?

The pool and the facilities were really nice and beautifully decorated. The staff was very friendly Breakfast was plentiful but did not reach the level of home stay food.

There were cockroaches in one of our bathrooms. The staff acted immediately on it, yet, the cockroaches did not disappear. However, they only showed up at night.

Really nice, spacious room and bathroom. Good shower. Nice breakfast. Very good WiFi. Nice pool. Friendly, helpful staff. Space to park our Tuk Tuk. Liked the emphasis on sustainability- such as refilling glass bottles for drinking water rather than using plastic bottles.

The quality/selection of food available for lunch/dinner could perhaps have been improved - although there are loads of options nearby so not a bid deal. Also good to have a safe in the room, but kind of pointless as it’s not secured to the wall or floor (so someone could just walk out with the safe in their hands!)

Lovely big room & bathroom. Great pool, just a short walk from the beach. Excellent dinner over the road at the fish bbq place. Also nice and quiet as it was end of Feb.

Felt like the staff were annoyed any time we requested something. Not that friendly overall (except for housekeeping).

The place is excellent. We really love the room, bathroom and the open garden. The place is clean and well maintained.

The only issue is the limited parking.

The rooms have a lovely garden, but a table and chairs are missing.

It was very tranquil, and set back from the road. Rooms were really big, and pool area was beautiful. Staff were amazing.

Everything was exceptional. The only thing I would say is the lunch and evening menu were not great, but breakfast was really good. They could probably do with investing in a really good barista coffee machine, as coffee wasn't great either.

One of the best places to stay in Arugam Bay. Very friendly and helpful service. The food at Little Bang Kitchen was amazing.

Needed to pick your time when going to the pool. At times there were additional spa guest visitors making the pool very busy.
