The Calm Resort & Spa

Nice setting by the ocean, big hotel park with pool and outside bar. Staff make sure the park and beach are clean every morning, which is a plus in this area as parts that are not cleaned look quite different. During check-in they provided tea and juice which was nice after a long drive. The manager was on site to greet us personally, which is always a good sign, and they didn't disappoint us afterwards either. The bar is nice and the barman knowledgeable and helpful. We didn't try the dinner buffet, but breakfast is good and the a la carte in the bar as well. The room was spacious and clean with a direct garden access. We enjoyed long walks on the beach, which was very empty given the off-season.

Only regular coffee and milk provided at breakfast. Other options like cappuccino or anything with lactose free milk need to be ordered and paid for separately, and take a while to arrive. It would have been nice to have been given a couple of complementary water bottles for the trip to the next location. But these are minor points for improvement in overall great quality hotel in a beautiful setting.

They were not maintaining the standards expected of a hotel in this class. Normally, hotels in the same category and price range offer a welcome drink on arrival, but this property did not. Guests were only given a wet towel to wipe their face.The room view was also disappointing. The layout is poorly designed, with the view blocked by the roof of another building. When I raised this concern, the staff said it was due to the room category we selected; however, this was not mentioned anywhere during the booking process.The morning buffet was quite limited, with very few options to choose from.The electric kettle provided in the room was a serious safety hazard. The handle was broken, and lifting it while filled with hot water could easily result in severe burns. This is extremely dangerous and unacceptable for a hotel. (See the pics)The Wi-Fi speed was also very poor and unreliable.

Friendly staff, cleanliness and location

The place was amazing. The room was very large and the facilities in the room were awesome. The service was very good. People were very friendly and nice.

We originally planned to stay for 4 nights, but due to the tropical storm that hit the island, we ended up extending our stay by another 4 nights. While the first few days brought rain and strong winds, the second half of our stay turned into a perfect beach holiday.Long walks along the beach showed that this hotel was clearly one of the cleanest and most well-kept properties on this stretch of coastline. While other places had some litter on their grounds, here the staff worked hard and kept everything spotless.Our room was cleaned daily, the beds were comfortable, and we appreciated having two pillow sizes to choose from. A blanket was also available, which some guests might find important.The food selection was generous, with both continental and local options available. Every morning we had fresh juice, a good selection of fruits, and eggs made to order — nothing to complain about.The Wi-Fi was excellent, which was incredibly important to me as I had to defend my thesis online during the storm — even then, the connection was flawless.There were beach games like rackets and a volleyball net, and indoors we discovered a small gym and a games room (which we only found after the rainy days!).But above all, I want to highlight the staff — they were incredibly hardworking, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay. The air conditioner was a bit too loud for us to use at night, but luckily the fan was quiet and worked just fine.There isn’t much else to do in the immediate area, but if your goal is to relax and enjoy the beach, that’s not an issue at all.

The room was enormous! Absolutely pristine and beautiful ! Comfortable bed and nice amenities! We were on the first floor right at beach level. Chairs and lounges outside. Dining table inside. Sauna, large whirlpool jacuzzi, double large showers plus the bonus was the pool in our private courtyard! That had lounge chairs and umbrella. Very private and very peaceful!The buffet and food was outstanding! Service was beyond expectation! We highly recommend The CalmFor a wonderful vacation!

Everything was perfect!

The hotel is on the beach and beach chairs and umbrellas were not hard to find. The pool is in view of the beach. The room I had was extremely spacious and had a separate area and table to eat in as well as a shower, sauna and whirlpool. The bed was comfortable.

Other than the rooms, the only place with A/c is the restaurant and it is not open all hours. The lobby is completely open air. The elevator only goes to the second floor. My room was on the 3 floor. One of the air conditioning units was not working properly. The management sent up a repairman but it was not fixable during my stay. The whirlpool was not working. Management sent up a repairman however this too was not fixable during my stay- disappointed. I was not compensated for this. The overhead shower was leaking from the ceiling but I didn’t complain because there is a hand held shower head in the shower. The restaurant food was mediocre. The local dishes were good but beef dishes were chewy and food dishes from other countries were not tasty. It was difficult to get glasses of water at the table. It you order separate dishes and not the buffet, it can take up to 45 minutes to get a smallSandwich or soup. Breakfast and dinner were included with my room but I would have preferred to eat elsewhere. That said, the only places around were other hotels down the beach. Nothing within walking distance. The hotel has potential if the facilities are kept working and a better quality of food is offered.

We love the location so much. The beach is just amazing. Our rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The food is also great absolutely love their Thai fried rice and mango passion fruit smoothies. We stayed with our 3 kids and they all had such a great time.

Blanket is just a piece of sheet but actually is totally fine and we had great night sleeps. but we are used to sleeping with thicker blanket and cold AC hehe

When I arrived at the resort, the reception felt so great, that I booked an extra night right away. Great food, friendly staff, good wifi and a spacious room. Also the location is right at the beach.

This is my third time visit in Calm Resort. This hotel feels like home to me now. They are top notch in terms of hospitality. The food is delicious. 10/10 for the food. The restaurant staff is also very friendly and efficient and treats every guest equally. The front office staff also provided very friendly and efficient service. They gave a very warm welcome, provided good care. The rooms are very clean and comfortable.

At least the wifi worked well. And the hotel was right on the beach. Restaurant buffet was good with a wide enough choice to satisfy different tastes.

The hotel facility is fine, but it is horribly managed. Among the many failures (in no particular order): 1) no female masseuse (my wife did not feel comfortable with a male masseur, so we used another hotel) - this is pretty fundamental, and impossible to believe they can't find a woman; 2) external air conditioning units make a ton of noise so sitting on the balcony or leaving the window open at night for fresh air instead of air conditioning (since the weather was a nice temperature) was deafeningly loud from all of the other units; 3) bar made things up as they went along - refused to sell us some non-alcoholic drinks one afternoon even though they were serving drinks, and then later offered to serve us those same non-alcoholic drinks if we paid 10X the menu price; 4) cappuccino machine seemed to be just for decoration (they said it did not work, but then they should get a new one) and regular coffee was bad; 5) many broken beach chairs and umbrellas; 6) we needed driver back to Colombo airport, and the hotel recommended a local driver they said they normally use and who they informed us was a good driver and had a good car - instead he came with a dreadful car incapable of handling the highway or longer distances (he claimed the car belonged to the hotel for local use) which would not have made it to Colombo, so we had to switch cars - the driver was dishonest about the whole situation and lied to us repeatedly, so we lost two and a half hours, he was a terrible unsafe driver (and pulled over by the police), and even though he repeated the agreed price multiple times, when we got to the destination he asked for an additional 20,000 LKR which we refused to pay - this was the only time anything like this happened to me in two weeks in Sri Lanka, and gave us a sour impression on our last full day after a great trip.

The setting staff and facilities were great.

Our bungalow was near the beach bar and the hotel rented the space to a private party- the music and noise was truly awful we were kept awake until after 1230 am when I went to find the manager - after receiving no help from several calls to reception A shame

Good breakfast and dinner, always with multiple options to choose from on the buffet.Directly at the beach. When we visited, some waves (nothing the hotel can influence).Good service, always paying attention.Double rooms quite spacious, nice shower.

Air conditioning in the room quite noise, both insde and outside equipment.

Location, pool, food, and staff. All were very nice.

The weather wasn't great as mostly it was thunderstorms so we couldn't use the beach area as we wanted to but that's the nature for you!

The AC stopped working during the night and I woke up perspiring. Restart the AC and it’s good.

We really like the room condition and the location, The food is delicious especially the Sri Lankan dish. All the staffs are very kind including Security officers.

À great place. We came for the 3. time this yes. Very big room, a green garden and a faboulous beach. What else ? Very nice people. We feel so well hier. We plan to come again next summer.
