    • We had a truly unforgettable stay at Ryokan Yamanami, and it will remain one of our most cherished travel memories. We stayed in a room with a private onsen, which made the experience even more special. Being able to relax in our own hot spring, surrounded by nature and complete tranquility, allowed us to fully unwind and enjoy every moment at our own pace. What truly sets this ryokan apart is the exceptional care and thoughtfulness of the staff. Every detail was handled with such warmth and attentiveness that we genuinely felt looked after throughout our stay. Their kindness made it incredibly easy to feel comfortable and at home.A very special thank you to Manager Mika, who went above and beyond to assist us with anything we needed. Her constant support, genuine kindness, and warm presence made our stay even more meaningful. Because of her hospitality, this ryokan is not just a place we stayed—but a place we truly connected with and hope to return to again.Combined with the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful onsen, delicious traditional meals, and heartfelt service, Ryokan Yamanami is a place we would wholeheartedly recommend. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
    • The breakfast was delicious and on time as requested. The onsen was relaxing and very satisfying after a day’s walking around. But most of all, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Worth coming back..

    Cons -

    • This is CASH ONLY hotel. This is unaccessible.
    • Only gripes (and I'm absolutely nitpicking here) were that the rooms were a little bit dated and tired, and the annex is actually about 100m walk along the access road to the main building, so walking to the baths or meals at the main building in your yukata especially in cold weather can be difficult in spite of the haori provided. Annex rooms have their own private baths anyway.
    • The only thing is it's a bit far from town center but it's not a big deal. Perfect other than that.

We spent a night here and booked the annex with private bath - we were not disappointed at all! Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I had made a mistake with my booking in selecting a single adult when I was travelling with my wife, but the staff were happy to prepare kaiseki meals for both of us at the very last minute (at extra charge of course). The kaiseki was an amazing experience.Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, cannot comment on location as we drove there. Had no difficulties finding the place and parking was free and easy to find.Would definitely recommend!

Everything. From the very kind and friendly stuff, to the breakfast, and the cleanliness and relaxing facilities. I ended up staying for 4 days and it was the best hotel in the long few months trip in Japan. I'll definitely come back ?

The only thing is it's a bit far from town center but it's not a big deal. Perfect other than that.

Had a fabulous experience in this ryokan which is located away from the main downtown area so it's quieter! Walkable unless you have suitcases because of very narrow sidewalk along the way. Taxi is JPY550 from Yufuin Station. Stayed in one of the rooms with the private, open air onsen which is in an annex building a short 1-2 min. walk from the main building. The facilities are very clean & comfortable Japanese style tatami mat rooms. Opted for the breakfast and kaiseki dinner offering and was not disappointed. Absolutely fabulous variety of meals with top-notch items, beautifully presented each time. The staff (Mika, Kimi, Chang, Yuka, etc.) were so friendly and helpful. Felt so at home and comfortable there. Used both the private onsen in room (which is fenced in and no view) and the public onsen in the main building with the view of Mount Yufu. Splendid, relaxing experience.

    Absolutely nothing at all!

We ended a 6-week Japan trip with a 3-day stay at Ryokan Yamanami. We treated ourselves to one of the Annex rooms, with an attached bathroom, private outdoor onsen, and private parking. It was such a treat! The room was peaceful, clean, well organized with a separate entrance area, toilet, sink area and shower. There was a wine cooler/fridge, as well as a hot plate for boiling water for tea. They left tea, coffee and treats for us every day. Breakfast was a highlight, eating in the dining room, overlooking magnificent Mt Yufu (which we climbed one day). The breakfasts were amazing and plentiful, served beautifully, with a lot of little dishes and wonderful tastes and textures. I don’t eat red meat, so they served me fish and chicken instead. For our 3-day stay, every breakfast was different, but equally beautiful and well presented. One night, we splurged on the kaiseki dinner, and it didn’t disappoint. It was truly amazing! Staff are all wonderful and kind, and the environment is relaxed and rejuvenating. We were also provided with beautiful yukatas and all the amenities needed such as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, etc. I highly recommend this ryokan, and the annex rooms.

The room and facilities were great, clean and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and helped with all that was needed.

The breakfast was great, but they did charge me extra because I have a food allergy.Generally, it is okay and understandable- since they made special things for me, and it was delicious and a much appreciated effort. But they only told me about it after I had the first breakfast, so I didn't really have the option to say no to the additional payment.

We included breakfast and dinner during our stay and it was the best choice we made. The staff were incredibly kind, the food was insanely delicious, the tatami beds were very comfortable with soft and fluffy covers. I would stay here again if I get a chance to come back.

There was nothing we didn’t like.

My stay in Ryokan Yamanami is excellent. The staffs are all nice and approachable. The foods are all delicious and it’s all different in my 3 night’s stay. My roomIs very spacious and I love the private onsen. Location is walkable from the station. And it’s a good exercise to walked from Ryokan to lake Kirinko. I will definitely be back next time. ?

Small size traditional Ryokan, friendly staff. Amazing onsen with exceptional dinner and breakfast.

    I like all.

    10NaimaPosted on: 7-24-2025

It had great amenities. Like massage chairs, a beautiful onsen and a foot bath. The food was superb.

The room, hot spring, and the food are amazing. The staffs also professional and warm.

We stayed at Mangetsu room and it was amazing. The room is very clean and equipped with everything I need. The outdoor onsen is open air but still very private, it's totally recommended for couple.Staffs were very helpful and kind too.One more thing, don't turn away just because you see they don't serve dinner or breakfast in room. They do it with purpose that you will get the best view when you are eating. We wished we can stay longer and will come back someday.

    10ChollatarnPosted on: 4-7-2025

No private onsen in standard room. 2 outdoor onsen 1 indoor. Everything good

    10SelinaPosted on: 1-15-2025

The staffs are all nice and kind in introducing the room and surroundings. The foot onsen us worth trying and the outdoor Onsen is comfy and the view is wonderful.

The toilet is outside the room and is super cold going there, we have running nose when we are at the toilet.

The room is very cozy. There's a couple of nice baths to choose from.

A bit far from the train station, they actually offered to pay a fare, but we can't actually find any taxi at the Yufuin station.
