About
Set in natural surroundings overlooking Lake Vättern and Visingsö Island, this hotel is 8 minutes’ drive from Gränna Harbor. It offers a summer terrace, free WiFi access and an à la carte restaurant serving traditional Swedish food. Most of Hotel Gyllene Uttern’s individually decorated rooms are located in the annex of the hotel. All have a TV and desk. Views of Lake Vättern can be enjoyed from most rooms. Restaurant Verandan is a member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs fine dining society. It uses fresh, local produce in its traditional dishes. Guests can enjoy lake views or sit by the fireplace. Gyllene Uttern’s staff can help arrange wine tasting, candy cane making and hot air balloon rides in the area. Boat trips to Visingsö Island can also be organized. There, visitors will find the castle ruins of Brahehus, Västanå and Visingsborg.

- Staff was so kind and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and even took to the time to answer my questions about the history of the castle after breakfast. Breakfast was phenomenal. something about that over looking view of the lake, gorgeous sunrise, a warm hearty breakfast in a stunning dining room, with gentle piano and jazz playing quietly i felt like royalty. my next visit from America, i will be sure to stay here again and recommend it to others!
- nice restaurant with great food and bar and people
- Very cozy and with charm. Beautiful view.
Cons -
- i may have missed it, but a walking trail would have been nice
- great for one night
- Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The staff was not friendly or helpful at all. We didn’t know that julbord had to be booked in advance and were told it was fully booked. When we asked to be placed on a waiting list, we were told that wasn’t possible and that they couldn’t help us. After asking again, they finally said they would call us if a table became available at 7:00, when all guests were supposed to have arrived. As hotel guests, we would have expected at least some priority or more accommodating service — especially since most of the people attending julbord seemed to be locals rather than hotel guests. We waited until 7:00 but no one contacted us. I had to go inside myself because the hostess was no longer at the entrance. To my surprise, there were several empty tables. When I found the hostess and asked about availability, she looked surprised to see me and said they were going to call me. Honestly, I don’t believe we would have been contacted if I hadn’t checked again — we would likely have missed out entirely. The julbord itself was good, though expensive as expected. However, the service was again lacking. Items that ran out were very slow to be replaced, and I had to ask several times for things to be refilled. The same poor service continued during breakfast. We arrived more than 30 minutes before the end, yet several items were already gone and not replaced. Once again, I had to ask staff to refill things. At the end, they were extremely quick to clear everything away. We were asked at the table if we wanted anything more, but there was no real opportunity to get anything, as many items had already been removed just minutes after the official end time.We usually spend the night somewhere on our way south, and this was our second stay at Gyllene Uttern — but it will probably be our last.

Very friendly staff; excellent kitchen; nice breakfast.
The facilities and the great surroundings. Great staff great breakfast.Water boiler in the room was perfect when I wanted some late coffe at the room.
No electrical outlet by the bed.
Beautiful hotel with vintage feel, great views, nice breakfast and staff. We liked everything.
The room was a tad on the chilly side, perhaps the heating needs to be stronger in the cold part of the year.
Charming old hotel with stylish decoration. Nice view over the lake. Make sure to pay a visit at the restaurant ?
Very beautiful castle with an amazing view from the restaurant, free parking is great.
we stayed in the annex, room small, tab water not drinkable, and too warm in the room, and you can see construction stuff from the window
We loved the food and the atmosphere at the restaurant Sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view and the sunset. The room was large and clean. It had a mini fridge. The bathroom was newly remodeled, but not huge. The beds had really comfortable mattresses making for a good night's sleep. We had a great stay. The location was perfect for a visit to Gränna. The breakfast was included. It was nothing short of fantastic.
Staff, glorious view.
The property may have been grand in past but is now About 20 years overdue a full renovation; certainly it is no longer a 4 nor 3 star hotel by any European standard, sadly. Aside from the facility itself, design, furnishings etc, we found spiders and spiderwebs in corners of room (not cleaned in months…), peeling stucco from ceiling, and finally rooms in 3 separate buildings (not clear at booking)
Location and fantastic views
Restaurant service are pretty bad, we booked the table and ordered the dinner, it takes almost an hour to get the main dishes, everyone else arrives late than us got third dishes earlier than us which make us upset.
Beautiful setting, comfortable, spacious rooms. Great patio and large selection of breakfast items.Location close to Gränna and Visingsö
Its location, with that cones a great view.
It’s a nice hotel but it does feel a little dated. I was here about 8 years ago and I felt the same way then as I do now.
Great view, nice staff, clean and very cozy rooms, a very good breakfast buffet.
A charming old house with a magnificent lake view.Book a room in the main building and enjoy the historical atmosphere and beautifully decorated rooms. The staff are very friendly. Dinner is good in a beautiful dining room.
Would be nice to have more vegetarian/vegan options at the dinner as well as breakfast
Unique building in beautiful location on Lake Vattern.
As it’s an old building it was unexpectedly noisy.
Fantastic view! Reception young man was 5* quality. Breakfast was great and friendly staff.
The room was tired looking and need some renovation. Could be so nice with a Scandinavian cosy look.
The location, the decor, the ambience. The food was excellent and breakfast was extensive. The staff were friendly and helpful. A great place to stay.
Loved the views from the room overlooking the lake.It was dog friendly and they placed the bins close to the entrance of the section we stayed at. With bags (if you forgot) There is nothing worse than trying to find a bin after you picked up after your dog.The building and entrance way has a lot of character. Loved our stay (sadly only for 1 night) Breakfast had a nice selection of continental food and their own waffle station. There was also a really friendly gentleman at the night reception. We arrived just before midnight and he cheered us up after a long day of travelling. (Keep him)
More dog friendly seating at the breakfast/dinning area with views.
The view from the room was great. The breakfast was okaish, needs improvement
