Elmo's Hotel

Pros +

• Elmos Hotel is a relatively new business-standard hotel in Addis Ababa. As its relatively new (and on a back street) many taxi/RIDE drivers struggle to find it. As in most developing countries, the finishing of the room is not quite perfect, nor do all of the features work perfectly/at all, but these are generally minor in nature. The staff are great - friendly and helpful. This is the key reason for my high rating of the hotel. Many of the hotel staff speak decent English. The breakfast buffet is great (if youre vegan/vegetarian a good source of vegetables on non-fasting days, which can often be difficult to find). The location has its pros and cons - its walkable to Meskal Square (unlike hotels located near the airport) but its also in a night-club district and therefore is not as quiet as one would like at night (not terrible, but there is some bass thumping to contend with). The complimentary shuttle transfer from the airport operates 24 hours - thankfully, staff are accommodating with flight delays.

Cons -

• Tolerable, but still annoying, night club noise at night.
• 1. We were first assigned to a room that was noisy (music from outside till the early hours of the morning); the one wall was dirty and nothing had been done about it. We were then moved to a better room. 2. The temperature of the water in the showers is only lukewarm and often only trickling. 3. The baked goods at breakfast are of poor quality and hardly edible. 4. We were double booked. Through booking.com we tried to have the hotel correct the error. For about two months, the hotel did not respond to several messages sent to them by us and Booking.com. Only later did the manager respond and correct the error in booking.
