About
The Hotel Hernán Cortés was inaugurated in 1958, in an impressive building located near Paseo de Begoña, one of the nerve centers of city life. Since then, travelers, musicians, writers, movie stars have passed through its rooms... and they have taken care of keeping all that essence intact within its walls. Walking through the Hernán Cortés is to feel history at every step. Throughout its history, Hernán Cortés has been recognized for its high level of customer service, both in its own services and in the choice of providers. Since 2019 it has been part of the SENSIA HOTELS chain, which has two open establishments and another two in the pipeline in Asturias. It has 75 rooms (Standard, Premium and Suite) distributed over seven floors. None of its rooms is the same as another: each experience, like each traveler, is unique

Pros +
- Close to everything. Walking distance or five euro taxi ride... Room was kept clean. The hotel breakfast, English style, 9.75 euros, spainish, 5.95 euros, which was my preference.
- Location, value for the money
- EXCELLENTWere given a complementary suite!Great experience
Cons -
- This is advertised as a non-smoking hotel. The front desk and surrounding area smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. When I opened the window of my fifth floor room cigarette smoke would come in from other rooms. No smoking casino has bathrooms with smokers
- Can't imagine. We are frugal people, splurging on a gorgeous hotel. I am easily pleased so I'm not a good person to ask about what could have been better.
- I reserved two different stays and both times got twin beds after requesting queen.

EXCELLENTWere given a complementary suite!Great experience
All staff were professional, helpful, but not intrusive. Interior architectural detail from original structure was well respected when modern conveniences were added. Very glad the window opened and shut easily. Temperature was easily controlled in the room, very important for old ladies with hot flashes.Concierges inspired confidence about our need for a taxi to the train station--My attempt to contact taxi services myself were unsuccessful, so when we asked for help, the concierge called them. He was unsuccessful on his first attempt too. He said, "Don't worry. I will keep calling them," and then, "Count on it."

staff so friendly and professional that they alone make the hotel a great place to stay!

Central location, big rooms
Zero sound proof, I could barely sleep - you can hear all kind of noices from the room above - all steps, talking, etc. Furniture is a bit outdated
We were able to check in at 11 am, we also received an upgrade to a suite, though the manager did not mention it. We thanked him after leaving the room. Parking- public was about 30 yards below the hotel and very convenient . Room coffee was excellent and not instant
Nothing I can think of
Staff is very professional and helpful. The hotel is very clean and has a great location.
After my initial disappointment with the decor, I came to appreciate the vintage vibes reminiscent of The Shining. Our room, while absent a memorable view, was huge and very clean! Hotel location near a bustling commercial square was ideal for shopping and evening walks. 8-10 minutes walk to the beach. We found the staff to be kind & helpful. Breakfast offered excellent variety, just needed to get there early.
This is a four star hotel that offered a good price for our stay in Gijon. The rooms were large and comfortable, outlets by bed, bathroom was HUGE and had heated towel warmer for towels and clothing. A good buy.
Nothing. Everything was perfect.
Everything. Location, wonderful staff. Beautiful upgrade to a suite. Coffee maker and fridge in room. They agreed to early checkin which was much appreciated as I was injured. I will stay here next time.
This is a very good "old school" hotel (built in 1959). The staff at the desk were always courteous and helpful. The hallways, and there is wood paneled everywhere. Definitely an older, better times, feel. The room was exceptionally large (it could have easily been a large two-room apartment) and well appointed with a desk, chairs, two large closets ("his and hers'), safe deposit box, mini bar, comfortable bed. The bathroom was simply huge and had all the elements of comfort.
Honestly, I cannot think of anything that requires improvement.I only stayed two nights.
Old school hotel in a great location in the center of town.
A but pricey, but it was the end go high season.
No words - an incredible hotel! Very friendly staff, spacious rooms and a perfect location close to the beach, cafes, and restaurants. Highly recommended!
The location is great- steps from the Mercado, the Beach, and all stores/shopping.
The rooms are not soundproof- you can hear your neighbors next door.
Well kept property/ spotless/ central location
Big room, nice little breakfast Gloria’s and chocolate. Nice bathroom. Good location.
Beds are not as soft as in America, but that is all hotels in Spain. Just personal preference.
Great location, fresh facilities, giant comfy bed, allow bicycles. Good value for the money
Vintage style with all the little extras, 24 hour hotel reception, clean, good location.
It is a top line four-star hotel. The room was a suite with two bathrooms.
