Pros +
- Our second visit to this hotel and this attractive city; very different from more modern and hectic places we have visited, with wide pavements and interesting colonial architecture as well as the wonderful market, the mighty palace and a wonderful array of shops of all sorts. Plenty of day trips and, if you have time for a lovely city-based lakeside stroll, catch an auto to Karanji Lake. The Royal Orchid is a great base from which to do all your explorations; very near the station of Mysore Junction; a short drive to the airport; a stroll to the main shopping streets and the Palace itself. The building is very fine; the food is good - with excellent choice for vegetarians - and served in an attractive alfresco courtyard; the service is warm and friendly. We opted not to have breakfast at the hotel this time; it is a good standard buffet - but we chose to eat at one of the many cafes or food stalls that are easy to find in Mysore to add variety to this, our second visit.
- Centrally located in a rustic and quaint historical building.
- Good heritage atmosphere, lots of character, great restaurant
Cons -
- The jacuzzi in our room did not work despite the technician checking on it.
- Service was slow for both check in and restaurant. Hotel seems understaffed
- Incredibly they don’t seem to care about the comfort of guests staying there. There were parties every day in the courtyard or on the front lawn. Fair enough- all successful hotels have plenty of banquets but they know how to keep the sounds from disturbing guests rooms. Not here, because they use their courtyard & don’t care to keep the noise levels manageable. On day 2 of our visit they played loud music in the courtyard from 6 pm to 10 pm! It was impossible to get any sleep and the manager’s reaction was sheepish and unhelpful . On top of this, the neighboring hotel played loud music till 11 pm & there is virtually continuous traffic noise preventing one from enjoying the private balcony as much as in previous years. They cannot help the last, (except by installing tall sound barriers- which may change the look of the property) but they can surely work to control their own noise levels and work with neighboring hotels. Does Mysuru not have civic laws restricting late night noise?

It’s a beautiful old world property that has been tastefully updated. The courtyard is lovely. The rooms are large, airy and spacious. Clean, luxurious and welcoming. Customer service in the restaurant was good & some staff like Shivanna were excellent & attentive. While updating they seem to have forgotten that most people have multiple devices to charge near their bedsides. We have had a lovely time on past visits but this visit was not as good.

Very clean , great staff, amazing breakfast. Felt very safe.
It’s a heritage property and well maintained.
The service is slow.
Classic, heritage hotel. Lovely building and grounds. Reasonably priced. Rooms were well sized and comfortable. Would recommend for a visit to Mysore.
House Keeping Staff was good and prompt in Service. Breakfast spread was good.
Property Area may be about 3 acres. I booked room facing garden. Garden is outside building and main road is just ahead of that. There is lots of traffic noise from the main road. It is therefore not possible to sit in the verandah and enjoy garden view. However, the room is quiet after closing verandah doors. The property is more than 100 years old and maintained not very properly. Couple of screw heads were jutting out of the bathroom door sill so I had to be careful while going in and out. Gymnasium is small and not Air-conditioned. When I opened it, I was welcomed by stale air. Dashboard of the none of the equipment was working. That put me off.
Spotlessly clean room, very nice (in our case) with a balcony onto the courtyard with old trees - very authentic colonial style. Stylish swimming pool in the parklike garden
minor point, electronics of the equipment in the nice little gym did not work
Vintage hotel ambiance, calm and quiet, central location, excellent service and delicious food.
We were in a non-renovated room. The bathroom fittings were on their last legs. water mixer for the shower was almost broken and I got scalded with hot water.
Good location close to the old colonial sights. Very clean accommodation, attentive and helpful staff.
It's a beautiful old building, but that isn't enough to make a hotel special. It needs some tlc.The rooms are beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and the upstairs balcony was a real treat. The spa was wonderful and I had an excellent massage. The pool area, beds and umbrellas are lovely. Shame it's right next to the main road though.
The staff are disinterested and standoffish. There is no welcome, warmth or hospitality. Despite arriving after 7pm, I had to wait more that half an hour to check in, for some inexplicable reason. The breakfast is beyond poor.Vastly overpriced.I ordered a bottle of very expensive champagne at the bar, and wasn't even given an ice bucket, a clean table or some peanuts!
Beautiful grand old building, airy feel, secluded from the main road, fairly central, good food, nice pool. Good comfortable room.
The staff in the restaurant were not very efficient. There was not enough of them for the number of customers.
Warm staff, lovely courtyard and nice location in central Mysuru. The courtyard is a busy, delicious restaurant in the evenings, very convenient.
Seems there is a wide variation in the quality of rooms. I would recommend upstairs rooms w nice balcony, lower rooms were quite dark and lacked the same level of updating! #207 is very large, private, and bright.
The hotel is a wonderful heritage building and is kept in great order. The pool and spa are an added bonus. We were very happy with our large room and balcony - room 201.
Staff, particularly F&B are belligerent, arrogant, and at times downright rude. We heard this from other travellers (both European and Indian). I also lost a gold, much loved earring in the restaurant, and Reception could not have cared less! Not a good side to an otherwise great experience of an historic hotel. Breakfast was the most tired and lacklustre we have ever had in many trips to India.
Legacy architecture.
VERY noisy on balcony n in roomManagement should be courteous n tell guests how terrible noise is.
Great location for city sites - and Mysore Junction railway station. A beautiful heritage hotel with lovely rooms, all immaculate, and a central dining courtyard, which comes into its own at night with illumination and classic Indian dining. A nice pool area for a few lazy lengths. The service is excellent from reception onwards. We had a really memorable stay.
Lovely heritage architecture with interesting rooms. Staff are very friendly and hotel works to make guests happy. Provides calm in middle of city.
Can be a bit noisy with traffic but not exceptionally compared to any other centrally located hotel.
Location, the Ambience and food
Rooms could have been a little better specially the linen.
The room wss excellent, large and clean. Close to town and within walking distance of most places.
The front of house were poor little interaction with guests. We had to guess most of the time and it took 3 requests from 3 staff just to get butter. It is not there falt, its is lack of training by management. Food is ok but not exceptional.
