Gateway Varkala (A Taj InnerCircle Hotel)

Nice hotel for that region, which is full of hotels, as this is secluded and vast in acreage. Rooms and air conditioning is great. Building is nice.Staff is diligent and serviced all my requests on time and professionally.

I booked for 2 night stay, had to leave after 1st day and gave a advance notice that I will only stay for 1 day despite booking for 2 days - they declined to give back. Even they collected the resort fees for second day. I guess, they have less guests, as i witnessed lots of rooms are vacant and it's hard on them to let go of revenue. But, doesn't feel right to have such a policy for Taj brand.

Lots of maintenance work was taking place in and around the reception area. Very dusty and dirty. Dirty plates were left outside almost every room.Very run down property, very surprised to see the Taj banner.

We had a super relaxing stay at this hotel. From when we were collected from the train station to when we sadly had to checkout, nothing was too much for the friendly and professional staff. The beautiful grounds overlooking the ocean, the 'warm bath' temperature large pool and huge breakfasts were all fab. Easy also to travel round - the path to other parts of Varkala really helpful too. Thanks for our exceptional stay.

Only minor grumble would be the tennis racquets and balls. The actual court is great. But the racquets have seen better days and the only two balls available.

This was our fourth stay at the hotel, we come back each year because it’s friendly and relaxed and good proximity to Varkala beaches and cliff restaurants. Everything is clean and comfortable .The pool is lovely and clean and breakfast buffet is good too.

The restaurant isn’t the best, the food is ok but restaurants on the nearby cliff tend to offer better quality and value for money.

The staff were very special, especially the manager, Sudeep. He was extremely helpful and attentive on many different issues. I would highly recommend the Gateway for some relaxation and peaceful time out.The pool is fabulous , clean and a really good size.

Location of the hotel is good. It is close to the Varkala cliff and beach. There is no direct access access to the beach from the hotel. For old property, hotel is maintained pretty well. Staff were nice to accept our request on rooms change to lower floor.Outside the hotel we could find auto-rickshaw so did not have to rent out a vehicle

For an IHCL hotel, cleanliness was subpar and breakfast quality could be better. I did not see any lifts in the hotel.

Really friendly and attentive staff. Afternoon refreshments were an added bonus. Pleasant balcony.

No handrails on most steps. Disabled entrance is rather treacherous. Dreary restaurant but magnificent staff. Sad that the path to the beach is closed.

The Gateway Varkala was a very nice place to stay. Everything in the hotel, from the staff, service, and location was top notch. The grounds are large and kept impeccable with a nice swimming pool. The breakfast was very varied and enjoyable, and the staff at breakfast were very accommodating with any requests. My wife scheduled a massage in the spa, and she said it was amazing. Thank you Gateway Varkala!

When was built May be nice not any more.

Never maintained since built .In the bedroom very old furniture.,old curtains,Floor never polished.Old Towels,old mattress,bedding,old worn furniture,never decorated since built .All common areas ,walls,ceiling dirty with spider nest hangingAll outside garden area grass over grown,patio ,steps never washed and black mould And dirty.Restaurant furniture v worn and food not nice.Evening they give high tea v bad and taste less cake and local short eats The management can’t see the suffering of the guests.They only know How to take the money.Very Bad for TAJ Brand???????????!!!!!!!!!????????!

The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They really made the stay so pleasant.The location is as good as it gets and the grounds are spectacular.

The tiles in the room were a bit tired as was the grouting in the bathroom. The rooms could do with a revamp.

The property was very poorly maintained and the facilities were very poor. It was really not the worth the money. The hotel had no features for a 5 star hotel.
