- The hotel room is good, but I cant appreciate the room after a spoiled experience at reception, see below.
- Great place, all you could wish for in terms of the usual things..........a solid 10. But best of all is Basil who runs the place.....so helpful with every traveller need I had; so friendly, so happy to go out of his way to make everything go well. What a guy! He helped me store my luggage when I visited Colombo, and sorted out a new key when I lost mine! (d'oh!)
Cons -
- Its disappointing to write such a review after so many positive ones, but this was the worst check-in experience I have ever had. I dont even know where to start From the very first moment, the receptionist was extremely arrogant and unwelcoming. When we were checking the room, my wife tried to turn on the AC, but it didnt work. Instead of addressing the issue politely, he turned it on himself with visible irritation. Later, when I noticed the dirty sheets and politely asked for them to be changed, he dismissively claimed they had been washed and asked if we had read the reviews. Eventually, he changed them, but only after showing clear reluctance. There were many other dirty items as well, such as the curtains, the rug, and the walls (photos attached). Breakfast was supposed to be at 7:30, but when we asked if it could be served just 15 minutes earlier, the receptionist flatly refused. There was no prior information about breakfast hours anywhere, yet he acted as if our request was unreasonable. To make matters worse, he refused to accept US dollars, even though Bookingcom listed the price in dollars as a local currency requirement (not rupee!). He insisted that if we paid in dollars, he would go to the bank to exchange them, tell us the conversion rate, and then demand additional payment. In the end, we paid in dollars, but at a slightly inflated amount that he arbitrarily set. What is truly unacceptable, however, is his open hostility and prejudice. He was blatantly rude and even racist, expressing clear disdain for Russians. If you are from Russia, or simply expect to be treated with basic respect and professionalism, it is best to avoid this place entirely
