Brick Box Hotel @ Oldtown Ipoh

comfortable room for the two of us, the cleanliness of the hotel is very good. The most interesting thing is the location of the hotel, right in the center of Ipoh city. easy to get to interesting places in Ipoh.

It's just that the smell when you first enter the lobby is a little strange. Maybe it's not my taste.

The location is very convenient. At city center. Near to tourist attractions. Near to variety of eateries.

Parking is hard to find. The staff can't speak local or simple English, hard to ask for anything. The room has no tv. There was unpleasant smell when entering the hotel. Even the 'qiblat' direction is wrong.

the TV is not functioning but its okay for me as i'm not staying in the room much.

Central location. Air-con was possible to set in freezing cold, and it also did keep the concrete room in chilled state which I appreciated.

Personnel asked me several times if have I paid the extra taxes (tourism, city). The tourism tax was already in the prepaid room price, clearly stated. And I did pay the newly established city tax in cash at check-in. Yes and yes, sir!

Bathroom was ok. The location near the train station is walkable.

Musty place. I didn’t like that there was no one at reception in the evening. Unable to charge devices due to the plugs did not fit 2 prong ( us ) chargers. We ended up buying our own adapters. No Tv/ satellite channels as described. No water kettle as described. Tiny unit, with nothing in it. Not so cheap after added charges. Must be better choices out there for the price.

Great location. Good for a short stay. It is what it says it is.

Slow check in process and no soundproofing

The only notable advantage of this hotel is its proximity to the train station, which is convenient for travelers.

Not Worth the Price, Except for the LocationHowever, for the high price charged, the accommodations fall far short of expectations.The room is basic, suitable only for resting, with very limited TV channels available—far from what you’d expect at this price point. The toilet door design is concerning, with a lack of proper privacy as it has visibility from outside, which could make some guests uncomfortable.Additionally, even though the standard rate is already high, the hotel charges an extra RM10 for a late check-out until 1 PM, which feels unreasonable.Overall, this hotel is okay if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and need to be near the train station. However, it does not offer good value for money, and there are likely better options in the same price range.

Great location right in downtown Ipoh. Staff was friendly and accomodating for late-night check in although their method was questionable for safety (Key card in envelope taped to front door with full name printed on envelope).

Building was old and smelled heavily of mold. I also found black mold along the edges of the sink in the bathroom. There was a gecko in my room which is normal for SEA but there was also a spider under my duvet which makes me wonder how frequently they change the sheets.

Check out in less an hour.

The room is very small, have to ‘crab’ walk to get out of either side of the bed. Ground floor room so no window. Very dark and no bedside light or phone socket. The only space for luggage is on the floor in front of the bed

the place near many attractions place such as concubines lane,birch memorial tower, ipoh war memorial and many more. and it also near to the ktm which you can have access travel many more place than ipoh.

I got the room with broken tv so it was a quiet night, but it not a big deal cz these day people more enjoy playing phone than watching tv, then the plug in my room only have one, and for me with two people it was not enough if you have more electronic devices to charge, and lastly, the electric iron has only one and it was at the ground floor and not at every floor, if you want to iron more clothes need to bring some person to hold you clothes cz there is no hanging place for you clothes.

great location close to train station around 6/8 minutes if walk, close to concubine lane plan B some cafe. staff really nice give me early check in while I really tired, all staff love to smile. comfort place to sleep

Location was great. It was smack in the middle of places to visit.

Bed was old and a bit lumpy. Pillows could be better. It was quite old.

Close to the train station and tourist places. Very strategic location, plenty of parking spaces.

The hotel staffs other than the owner don’t understand English at all, it is super hard to communicate with them.

Clean toilet.

They gave us a room with a broken tv. As in they knew it was broken, the keycard wrote "TV Rosak", I asked them and they just said yeah it's under maintenance or something, no guilt, no compensation or solution. And the whole unit only has 1 plug point for a kettle with no emenities.

Location is good as it's walking distance to KTMB and also very near Concubine Lane and a lot of shops. It's good value for money overall.

A lot of things were communal, which is still okay but it wasn't what we were expecting from the description, so you might be surprised as well (e.g. free water from a filter in the kitchen, hair dryers need to be taken and returned to the lobby since other guests might also borrow it, etc).

The 'brick wall' deco concept was unique and nice.

The hotel is easy to locate, has free parking, and relatively near to banks and eateries. Miker Pizza and the field are just walking distance.Check in and check out are quick and easy, staff is friendly and helpful. Our rooms were on the ground floor. There's also an elevator for higher rooms, so definitely a good choice for families with kids or elderly.Room is good, bed is super comfy, air-conditioning is adjustable, shower comes with bath foam and shampoo, and hot water. Room also comes with a kettle, TV, hangars, and clean towels. Power plugs are plenty so that's a plus point, as well as the prayer sign (Kiblat). We're very satisfied with the rooms and had a great sleep!

Maybe there should be a hair dryer in the room
