    Pros +

    • It was rusty and icon and an experience
    • Worth staying here to get a genuine country hotel experience. Our room was quite large with ensuite. Oldist but better than most of the places we stayed at during a 2 week outback car trip. Bush poet and a one man band was a great bonus. Bar and meals were good.
    • Great old-style pub - nice accommodation, great meals, friendly hosts - in the centre of Winton. The pub serves the very best steak sandwich I have ever eaten; The Great Greg Sanga.

    Cons -

    • The structure of the room was just ridiculously out of date and of the very poor materials with the worst workmanship I’ve ever seen anywhere. The smell of the sulfur in the water was so great. It was impossible to flush the toilet and stay in the room at the same time.
    • Has a small car park at the back of the hotel. Reception told us not to park there as the birds roost in the trees. Saw a car that did park there & was covered in bird poop. There is plently of street parking.Has a small lift to get to the top floors. Useful if you have suitcases. Old and something of a novelity if you haven't used a lift with no internal doors.
    • Even tho there was mention the sulphur in the water was TOO strong also the toilet bowl was well honestly not good badly stained understand from the sulphur but anyway also the interior of the room maybe a fresh paint

Just a nice old aussie pub with solid food and hospitality.

It didn't bother me but some may find the rooms small. Remember it's an old hotel l

Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful hotel - old style but modern service. Bed great, a/c added that degree of comfort. Extremely well priced, convenient, quiet, comfortable.

    10CassandraPosted on: 2-27-2025

Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcomed.

Bed was compfy and food was delicious.

    6YvonnePosted on: 2-4-2025

Like the retro style and the staff was very nice.

The room could be updated with nicer beds and bedcovers. One soap a bit cheap in the bathroom. Could be okay with dispensers for shower gel etc on the wall in the shower. Nicer curtains and a more white paint on the walls and a toaster! The dining room lost the appeal since last time we were there. Put some nice coloured table clothes and some fresh paint on the walls

    convenient location comfortable bed

    lift was not working

Rooms nice and clean. Private bathroom with room. Staff more than happy to help. Food excellent.

    6LeePosted on: 12-7-2024

The building is imposing. Staff were friendly.

We would have appreciated some bottled water in the fridge, as the sulphur smell of the reticulated water made it difficult to drink.

    3Wazza12Posted on: 11-15-2024

    meals were great.

Door Lock to balcony less than adequate, slide bolt that only just locked. Sulphur smell from water is sickly and makes the room stink. no PowerPoint's by bed, makes it difficult for people that use cpap machines.

My score would have been better but town power cut 3pm could not sleep too hot. no lights. no power. no fault of hotel Lift before power went out poor. Useless when power went out. Loved SPA. Meal excellent. So all good otherwise

    Lift needs update

Just an amazing place to stay. The building is fabulous and we loved the beer garden out the back with the added bonus of the entertainment from Gregory North (he was wonderful). The bistro and meals were terrific. Will definitely stay here again.

    Loved it all

In the centre of town, easy walking distance to food outlets

Breakfast only available from one cafe across the street, but it was closed for the first 4 days of our stay.Very small wash basin, with a shelf overhead - made it very difficult to clean your teeth.Only warm water, not cold.Hydrogen sulphide smell in the water - just something to get used to

    5VickiPosted on: 9-18-2024

    Dinner was good.

The room was old and smelly. The shower was terrible.

    5AlanPosted on: 9-13-2024

    no breakfast

the bed, the room, the shower

    8DenisPosted on: 9-7-2024

    The building and its grandeur

Shower and walls painted with a floating shower base.

    5RuthPosted on: 9-7-2024

    Location was fine.

Airconditioner didn't really work. Only 1 towel. No bath mat.
