    Pros +

    • 150 year old hotel with the authentic look
    • The lounge area and the rooftop was awesome. Also the kitchen was well maintained and has a lot of kitchenwear to use.
    • Social hostel, cubicles offered good privacy and although "mixed" form it was all female. Stored by bag after check out. Would visit again.

    Cons -

    • All good
    • The door was quite heavy and very loud when I closed it. Further the ventilator was not working properly.
    • Nothing as only there for one night

The only hostel that offered complimentary coffee and tea, with comfortable beds and a clean, well-kept ensuite. I loved the downstairs lounge area, roof terrace and the location was perfect with carpark just outside the door

I appreciated that the staff provided in-person tours rather than just a verbal explanation. However, when I asked questions, there were some language barriers that made communication a bit difficult, so I needed to return later to speak with another staff member. Also, the ensuite shower was dripping which it didn’t bother me personally, but it could become an issue if not fixed and is likely a waste of water

Nice lounge with billiard and piano. Rooftop and garden. Affordable and nice Hostel!

Cooking Equipment and space to store your food wasn’t the best.

Best situated near the town center and heaps of shops. The house itself has such a cozy atmosphere. Love the dude at reception

The mattress was bit worn out and soft in the middle

Great stay at Crashpalace, Joe is so welcoming and gives a good tour of the hostel when you arrive. The kitchen has everything you need and there’s indoor and outdoor spaces to chill. It’s easy to meet people here and if you have any problems staff are always happy to help.

The building had character and the 4 bed shared room was comfortable with a fan and curtain.

It wasn’t the cleanest, especially the bathroom in the downstairs part - there wasn’t much space to get dressed but I did find the bathroom upstairs after and that was much better.

The staff was nice and helpful (thank you Greta), beds comfortable and the location was good. 2 kitchens available and enough room to store food.

A few utensils in the kitchen are getting old and it's be better if they get replacement. Such as the water kettles.

Very clean and calm place. Top location and very affordable. Good value!

Sometimes you have to wait until a shower is free.

I really appreciated the friendly staff, the convenient location, the rooms, the level of privacy, and the great communication.

    Comfortable bed. Beautiful staff

No soap in the soap dispensers in most of the bathrooms I went into. Shower was blocked/broken.

    8LindaPosted on: 1-24-2026

The location was perfect and within walking distance of restaurants and grocers. The bed was very comfortable ( we had a private Queen room and bathroom) and the fan provided kept us cool. The shower was great ! Staff were helpful and ran everything efficiently. We don't normally stay in hostels so we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Thank-you Joe.

We only stayed two nights, which, for us in our 60's was enough.

Here's one of the best hostels i stayed before. cause all of receiptionists and staffs have kind hospitality and good motivation on their work, although I stayed there at comfort room almost for 3 weeks. Japanese people always require to be clean and tidy, they're enough satisfied. I'll be back here next visiting in Napier

Checkin was easy and friendlyGreat sitting room with pool table

Bathrooms were small and sometimes needed to go upstairs to use them.

Lovely roof terrace , great staff and we could walk around beach and town from the place.

It did have a lot stairs , ok for us , but not for everyone.

Beautiful building, friendly staff. Close to town and clean, had a fantastic stay, will rebook next time I am in Napier. Only one suggestion the bathroom has leaky shower head, that needs fixing, great shower to use.

Nothing bothered me slept like a baby had a great time
