Pros +
- Cleanliness of room and facilities was great. Staff were very helpful. The restaurant food was very good and at a fair price.
- We appreciated the receptionist kindly suggesting we be upgraded to a more suitable room due to my husband's mobility issues. We like the size of the rooms and historic ambience. The room was clean although the adjoining balcony unusable due to lack of maintenance. It's pity the curtains that obviously got caught in the door were not repaired.
- All meals were very good and a nice selection of choices, decor and historic nature of the building, staff very pleasant
Cons -
- The room, although neat and tidy was over cooled to 17 degrees. It took some time to raise the temperature to about.20 degrees. Power points were scarce. The kettle had to be heated on a tiny shelf in the bathroom.Access to the car park was a little challenging for a disabled person.
- The seafood pasta we ordered in the restaurant on Sunday evening was inedible due to the heaviness of the tomato based sauce and lack of fresh seafood, what was presented was a bland almost cold, tough plate of food. We left most of our food, and informed the waitress of our distaste but were met with a blank look and no apology.
- Bed was very basic and not comfortable but pillows good. Bed side lamp didnt work as no power point or lead, AC was tough to get sorted out and working. It was not on for arrival. Shower recess was a squeeze and shower nozzle could not be adjusted to stop water pouring into the bathroom if shower door open. TV quite small and just local channels. Window looked into dining hall below so no view

Great central location in Ballarat, helpful staff (allowed us to check in early), beautiful and fascinating authentic period decor and furnishings. The view from the balcony is a great feature
The bed was too high for an elderly guest
Historic hotel. Interesting turret room
No balcony as promised
Beautiful breakfast, beautiful cocktails, excellent, warm service from staff
The old-world charm was wonderful. It was close to eating places, very clean, and everything worked. Our room was very quiet and comfortable. We loved the history.
On-street parking is a pain, but what can you do?
There for Biennale - location great very nice hotel
Your heating system malfunctioned overnight. Although the thermostat read 16 temp was more like 26-28 in both our rooms.
The hotel was warm and inviting and we pleased with meals that resonate price and great surroundings
Parking was a bit tricky
The building and its decor is truly amazing, the location is great, walk to everywhere, the food and service was great, very clean and safe,
unfortunately the bed on the right side, 1 of the 2 king singles was saggy and rolled to the right making for an uncomfortable night for my wife, if not for that it would have been perfect,. A must fix.
Beautiful old building well preserved and great location
Noise from rooftop air conditioning was noisy throughout night. Not sure how you could fix this but it definitely impacted a good nights sleep. Beds were not the most comfortable and pillows not great could definitely be improved.
Great first time stay at Craig's! Location is absolutely fantastic. Can park right out the front (have to keep an eye on parking meter till 5pm), very clean bathrooms, beautifully kept heritage building. Didn't get to use breakfast and bar facilities but they looked amazing. Loved the old school lift!
TV in my room wasn't working - rang for help but did not get any assistance.
extremely comfortable beds and staff were friendly
more power points that are easily accessible
Craig's Royal Hotel is not that far from Ballarat Station, an easy walk, and it is situated between many retail and shopping areas, where a car is not needed unless driving far
The room could have been updated or replaced with the existing seating/table furniture. One of the seats feels as though it is about to break anytime soon; however, some power outlets were rough to reach.
The Hotel and the room were stunning.Staff were friendly
The room needed better lighting. The breakfast downstairs wasn't great.
Intense rain caused electrical issues somewhere in the hotel, so we were without power on the morning of departure. That meant no hot shower on the morning we left the hotel. It wasn't the hotel's fault, but I'd expect a little 'something' from the hotel by way of apology. The stairs to the second floor had me wishing I'd brought my own vacuum cleaner to give them a quick clean....
Both breakfast and dinner were excellent.
The Craig is also an event venue, so we discovered. The night we stayed there was a wedding reception and the reception area is directly under guests accommodation. We were not warned that the room would be subject to the rake, rattle and roll of ABBA's greatest hits and that it would be uninhabitable until the music finally stopped. Poor form. The hotel was totally charming until then.
location was good for us. check in and check out were easy. all staff were fantastic.
Room looked pretty
TV would only pick up SBS and ABC. Tried to Auto tune and it did the same thing. The other channels you could hear but you could only see a blue screen so no images. Industrial Air conditioner outside window going all night. So the whole time I was in the room there was a loud air con hum.
Lovely historic building. Room was updated nicely and very comfortable
