    Pros +

    • Couldn’t spend the night went...
    • Suzie was so friendly and generous while we were there to get out of some heavy rain. Ahaura Hotel went above and beyond to help us out. The food is great, the people are friendly, and we loved learning the history of the building and area.
    • The homeliness, the breakfast, the hosts, the bed, the toiletries.

    Cons -

    • Very run down stinks of cigarettes very uncomfortable. Found somewhere else to stay
    • no wifi password in room so assume no wifi available
    • The bathrooms were a ways away from the room. However, there is a sink in the room. It's an older building and it sits on a major intersection in town, so it gets a bit noisy in the morning hours.

The owner was very welcoming, despite it being fairly late into the night. She showed me the facilities and welcomed me to help myself to any food I would like that night, or for breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean. If you're international like me, don't forget to flip the power switch above the stove before lighting the burner. I had to have someone show me how to get the stove going. I never did find the trash. The food was good!

The room and shower were clean

No kitchen essentials were provided in the kitchenette upstairs (like plates, spoons etc), no water available there as well. We had to use stuff kitchen were we felt unwelcomed and it was very dirty and messy.

Susie offered a level of hospitality that you don’t see much of anymore, you are made to feel like one of the family, while staying in a great 150 year old pub.Off street parking, bike riders in particular will love this place.

Really nice country pub, good atmosphere, great owner and staff. Good food in the pub. Bathrooms were recently remodeled and spotless and shower had great water pressure.

Loved the view from my room, but there was a fair bit of early morning truck traffic, so had to put in ear plugs.

    10ChelePosted on: 3-11-2025

The hosts were very accommodating. Let us part the motorbikes out back with their car and nothing was a problem. Suzie cooked a good meal too.

We felt we had an authentic NZ experience. Staff were extremely friendly. Grandkids were visiting during Xmas-New Year and we felt included almost as part of the family... We had a great & inclusive time on New Years Eve night.

Beds could have been better - noisy & a bit saggy, plus we could hear person in next room snoring.

Susie & Rocky are very big hearted, generous.Like having a mom who really cares about you.

The kitchen is a ‘working kitchen’. Kind of like a farmhouse. There’s a lot going on there. Not that I didn’t like it. Just to know that it’s a busy space.

    10ShaiPosted on: 11-18-2024

Loved the fact we could take our bulldog. Suuz and Rock were amazing hosts. Felt like going to stay with relatives. The premises were always spotless and the price was phenomenal

I found the bed uncomfortable. Other than that though exceptional
