Super convenient to the functions (wedding and reception) I was attending and catching up with friends in Mataura. Updated decor and furnishings. Very clean and had all basic conveniences/chattels and consumables available. Private parking away from main road. Very helpful, friendly reception staff/owner.

Only had 'shaver only' power point in bathroom so had to find a standard power point for hairdryer in bedroom 6 feet from a mirror. 4am train......?

The property would have been perfect for us, it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. How ever the unit had a very strong smell of urine. I let the lady at reception know and she came and had a look and agreed. She let the owner know but when he came over we were out. So we never had a resolution. Luckily it was only 1 night, however $220 for a urine smelling room was not great

Spacious, clean unit on the outskirts of Gore, Plenty of parking. Has a full kitchen so ideal if you are planning a longer stay.

Has outside tables for each unit, and space for two people to sleep in separate rooms

Parking was a tad difficult for our unit (6). It was very hot, ice in the freezer would have been great

the beds were comfortable the room was serviced every day

there was mold on the bathroom ceiling

Very clean, comfortable beds, friendly staff that allowed us to park a vehicle hidden from the street.

Heater and electric blanket were a godsend. It's so cold at night in Gore even in the summer

It was spacious and had a kitchenette.

There was a permeating smell in the room of maybe sweat or something that didn’t dry properly. We checked in at 5pm and kept the windows open until 10pm to ventilate the room but it never went away. It was not pleasant.

The very strong smell! It smelt like it had been a party motel. A mix of old smoke, alcohol, dampness and an attempt to disguise with air freshener. Shower had a curtain - not ideal. Heater was plug in, I prefer heat pumps - they feel safer and can be turned off from your bedside. My daughter found old jam or something similar on the bed cover. Most of these things I can deal with the smell is not something I could deal with again.

Price, comfy, everything you need

Just the unit had a it of a smell to it.

Owners were awesome. Easy friendly check in and were amazing switching us out to another room on night two when our water went cold. Good kitchen for family cooking. Comfy beds and nice and warm in spite of the really hard frosts both nights.

Wouldn't complain about anything. Nice place.

Needed a night on way to Fiordland. Achieved what was needed, quiet, location & price ok. But found the room very tired and dark (heavy nets - good for privacy but made the room very gloomy unless you had door open to carpark, dark coloured bedspread). Would choose another place if I visited this town again

Room was tired and looked like it needed some basic maintenance to attend to. Esp in bathroom

Great location, easy to find and close to everything. Staff very friendly and helpful made taking our dog with us so pleasant.Would recommend the Charlton Motels to our friends.

We’ve stayed many times due to my daughter doing horse events across the road. Convenient and helpful staff (have borrowed bowls and cutlery for the day a couple of times, no problem)

Nothing really. Great for the price. Maybe a smaller room just for two, for even less, but it’s fine the way it is too.
