Yamagata Grand Hotel

Good location, good sized room.

Heater was too hot and difficult to work out how to turn it down.

Fantastic value for the prize. Very nice and friendly staff. Very big rooms especially for Japanese standards. Highly recommended.

In the city is flexible for travel. Staff really nice.

The hotel is old fashion and they charged for the car park which is not acceptable for the quite town.

The breakfast

Rather faded. The rooms need and upgrade. The beds were extremely firm and uncomfortable. I don’t know how this qualifies as a 4 star hotel.

The room is spacious and clean. They provide an espresso machine for the guests, which is a huge plus for us.

- Room is super largefor Japan, very comfortable. - I can open three of 28" baggages in the room.- Breakfast is great.- Vending machine for buying drinks.- Free ice- Free 2 bottles of water

Parking lot is available but have to pay 1000 yen per night.

Comfortable, quiet, very convenient for the train station, excellent breakfast.

No restaurants open. Three in the hotel all closed for the evenings. The bar was also closed. Very disappointing. We had to go out looking for somewhere to eat on a cold night. Not what we were expecting for such a grand hotel.

We appreciate the breakfast spread. The location was central in town. The front desk were very helpful, all staff were courteous too. Parking was very convenient.

Great location, under 10 mins to the train station, good area, close to the Main Street with heaps of shops and food. Storage for bags at the hotel was awesome. We got to explore the day we left without worrying about our bags

Price on booking com was about double the price at the hotel. As I didn’t realise I booked a room with a double bed, and we wanted 2 seperate beds I booked another room and it was much cheaper at the location

Clean, helpful staff, parking, big rooms, etc.

Towels were a bit hard and the soap kinda stinged but I have sensitive skin tho.

Great location near the palace ruins with many local shops. They were very accommodating with our limited Japanese and, when one of our party was feeling unwell, they were very flexible with a delayed check-out at a very reasonable cost. The beds were also comfortable and the existence of a triple room was very good!

Breakfast was a vast buffet consisting of mainly Japanese fare with approximately 30 different individual dishes. Location in Yamagata is superb and parking is validated for the 4 days we were there for a total of 2000 yen

The hotel does not have on-site parking, it is 50m from the hotel which really isn't an issue but you should be aware that you may have to clear snow off the vehicle.

It’s well located to explore the local area. The rooms were,clean. The buffet breakfast was good.

When we checked in, the member of staff tried changing us extra for our room. He claimed I had entered my children’s ages as zero. I couldn’t see any evidence to support this. I have booked through booking.com on numerous occasions and have never been asked to pay more, in this fashion. Our “discussion” went on for an extended period, at a time when we were tired from traveling and had waited for check-in, despite the hotel not appearing to be busy. The language barrier (nobody’s fault) did not help. I felt frustrated and embarrassed in front of my family. My children had never seen anything like this; it was unnecessary and distressing. I asked to speak with the manager. This did not occur. The staff member then informed me there was no extra charge for the room, but that I would have to pay extra for our children to have breakfast. I refused. By this point, I had had enough. I stated that we only wished to go to our rooms. My partner and I had breakfast; our children did not.

Convenient to much of the city and downtown - only a 12 minute walk from the station. Lots of local restaurants nearby. Good selection at breakfast with comfortable beds and a very large room (especially given typical Japanese rooms I've stayed in). Check in was quick and seamless, no issues. Would happily stay here again.

The rooms are big for Japan standard. About 12 minutes walk going to Yamagata Station. Quiet neighborhood with lots of restaurants.

The carpet is quite outdated.

It’s quite luxury hotel. But the price is very good.And the location is in center of the town. So you can walk to anywhere in the town less than 20 mins.

A nice place for a short stay. You can tell by the interior design that the hotel is a bit old but it was very clean. Breakfasts were fine. If I ever stop by Yamagata again I wouldn't mind stopping by this hotel.
