Cons -
- They turned the AC off, and we sweat all night. I didn't sleep and transferred to another hotel. We are still waiting on a refund.
- The pillows are quite hard. The facilities are clean and proper but are outdated. It is very “Showa Jidai.”
- Some reception staff could not speak or undertand english well. But using translation app can easily solve that problem.

Nice, spacious rooms. Very comfortable and clean. Great location. Excellent value for the price. The staff were amazing and very helpful. We'd definitely stay here again.
The hotel obviously hasn't been updated in a while. It is very clean and everything works, but it definitely shows its age. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Walkable to Niigata station but we had luggage and it was snowing so we had to hail a cab. Very helpful staff & large retro “hotel” but I was disappointed with the small size of our room. One side of bed was up against the side wall & it made it difficult to get out of bed. The big window & the view was a plus but bathroom could use some refreshing.
Disappointed with the small room & the odd configuration.
I loved the retro charm (the radio end-table in our room is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a hotel room in a long while) and our view of the Bandai Bridge, plus its wicked close to all the malls right on the other side. The staff were extremely friendly and kind and made us feel very welcome.
The wifi is inexcusably bad for 2025–it would have been bad in 2015! On the 9th floor when we were even able to connect it was so slow that it may as well not have been connected. I genuinely wouldn’t care at all except for that many international travelers from the US like us have to have International Data Plans from their provider which have limited amounts to use, so we kinda rely on hotel wifi throughout the trip to keep things in check, and we were functionally unable to use the wifi here.Everything else was so wonderful that I’m genuinely surprised they haven’t addressed it!
Good area, comfortable, good pillows, clean
The room was relatively roomy (triple) compared to other hotels we stayed at during our trip to Japan. The bathroom was large and comfortable. I liked the "old school" charm of this hotel and customer service compared to the more "modern" hotels we stayed at in Tokyo. On one rainy day, a staff member ran after me to ask if I needed an umbrella! The breakfast choices were excellent, and I liked that I was able to taste two rice choices! There are many restaurant choices within walking distance, and a nearby covered "mall" with lots of choices. The train station is a relatively easy 20-30 minute walk, and a very easy bus ride away.
We had a minor communication mixup probably due to language issues regarding laundry service. I assumed that my "conversation" at the desk meant that I had arranged a pickup but that did not happen. I should have not assumed and called to make sure the pickup was scheduled.
This hotel is in a good location. Quick taxi from or to the station as well as walkable for looking around. Also close to other main streets with lots of restaurants and shops. Not noisy. Buffet breakfast was good with lots of choices.
Hotel is old and needs some reno work - particularly the bathroom. Beds are not bad but pillows are uncomfortable.
The breakfast was fantastic.
The wifi was poor. Our room was on the 10th floor.
Excellent service from the staff. Great for parking, close to everything and good bike rental facilities.
Aircon control was not existent and had to open the window and let the cold spring wind cool the room instead. Wifi was absent and not reliable 80% of the time.
Comfortable room, good buffet breakfast, attentive staff.
Nothing identified.
The hotel has seen better days, it is a 20 minutes walk from the station in an area with not much around the hotel. It is reasonably clean but the carpets should be replaced.
You can see cost cuttings, the top floor lounge seems to be permanently closed, everything feels dated, very cheap bathroom products. The price was cheap so it was ok but I would stay at a business hotel closer to the station next time. I had to catch an early train and wanted to have a quick breakfast at 6.30 but was denied entry by quite a rude staff as they wanted to let a group in first and should wait but that would have been to late for my train so I had to skip breakfast.
exceptional service, rooms were very comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay again.
Bar was not open the nights we stayed.
Every staff interaction was very good. They were excellent
I like a heavy blanket when sleeping. The blanket was too thin.
It was like staying in a fancy 80s hotel at a backpackers price! The concierge walked me to the check-in and a porter carried my bags to the room, quite amazing for 5000-ish yen a night. The room was much bigger than in a modern hotel, it had proper timber furniture and there was a real bathroom with tiles and marble. The lobby is quite dazzling. It is a ten-minute walk to downtown with a peaceful path along the river in the other direction. I would go back in a heartbeat, I could even imagine living there!
The on-site food and beverage offerings are expensive but this is to be expected given the Okura's reputation as a luxury hotel. Being Japan, there is plenty of choice nearby though.
excellent experience very helpful staff good location spacious and clean room evern prepared for us an addintional bed for kid
The most comfortable bed we have found in Japan. We had the junior suite and would highly recommend it. Exceptional value and well maintained.
Everything was good.
Location is a bit far from Niigata station, but it's ok for a short walk. The staff at the hotel are some of the best I have seen in all Japan and what makes this hotel great.Breakfast was also very nice and with quite a few options, the people working at breakfast service are really nice.Would stay again only for how the staff treated us and how nice the breakfast was.
The hotel is a bit old and the rooms reflect that but in the end it was not that bad. There are a lot of events hosted at the hotel so it can be really crowded sometimes.
