    Pros +

    • Everything was fine except for the cold shower.
    • Lovely garden. We relaxed after our flight and before going on safari in Amboseli. Quiet location about 40 minute drive from airport. Worth checking your route out of Nairobi as we had to go back past airport in busy city traffic.
    • Breakfast was fantastic. The outdoor area was beautiful. Felt very safe.

    Cons -

    • The shower was hot the first day, but after that it cold.
    • It did seem a little empty at times, which is great if you want the place all to yourself, but not if you want to meet other people and to stay somewhere that is more lively. Location was not the best either but Karen is pretty spread out in general.
    • Check in was confusing. We were served a drink and asked for Breakfast order before we checked in and settled after a long day of travel. And one of our party got locked out of the property for 15 minutes after a walk. But the grounds were lovely.

After a day in the buzzing city of Nairobi, Drexel House is like stepping into a peaceful oasis. The moment we arrived, we felt the tranquility wash over us, birds singing, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves, and the chaos of the city fading into the background. I was traveling with my 6-year-old son, and he summed it up best:“The boss is nice, the girls too. The fruit juice was yummy. Good food. Sleeping in bed was fun. Waking up was fun too. I like the house and also inside. Tasty ice cream. We could chill. I swam from one side to the other.”Honestly, I couldn’t have put it better myself! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, especially to my son. It’s rare to find a place that feels so genuine, where hospitality isn’t just a job but a natural way of being. The house itself is stylish, comfortable, and just a short drive from Nairobi. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat while exploring the city, this is the perfect spot. Highly recommended!

The room was comfortable and the food was amazing. Delicious vegetable curry. They accommodated gluten free and dairy sensitivities.

    Nothing - all good

This is a very peaceful, safe hotel with a lovely garden and pool and exceptionally helpful staff.

The bungalows could do with refurbishment and the mattresses are rock hard. The food could be better.

Light but good breakfast. Very helpful staff with good advice.

The shower could be a bit better.

Drexel House is one of the nicest, most comfortable hotels I have ever stayed at! The property is gorgeous. The staff is amazing-so eager to please. Dan, the owner, is so friendly and pleasant that he made us feel completely at home. Diana is wonderful, as were Victor, Noreen and Betty. Breakfasts were delicious. I would not think twice about staying there again, or recommending it to anyone looking for a place to stay near Nairobi.

It was kind of out of the way, but worth it because it was so nice to come back to.

Surroundings and the main building are beautiful. The location is very good. The staff is very nice and helpful.

We stayed in one of their cottages. The cottage needs a full renovation: rooms are so dark due to dark colours, the shower floor flooded while having a shower, the whole cottage is tilted several degrees so be careful with your luggages on wheels, no silverware. We also run out of electricity the first night and the whole cottage was out of electricity. The staff wanted us to pay the electric bill, it is not said anywhere the customer is liable to do so!The breakfast: it should be ordered the previous night and you should do that, because otherwise you might not get what you would like to have. It felt like they don't have any extra food, only what has been ordered. So if you want something extra, you might not get it. The service was very slow, so be prepared to be there in time if you need to be somewhere at a certain time in the morning. The pool is very beautiful, but it is not heated. If you want to have your clothes washed, be aware they are using laundry detergent/ water softener with very strong odour! The stink stayed in our clothes even after we washed our clothes again at home! They dry the clothes outside, so if the weather is very moist or rainy, the clothes stays wet.

An absolutely beautiful hotel with stunning gardens and delightful staff. Eclectically furnished with antiques, it has real character. The staff do everything they can to make your stay easy and comfortable, even booking train tickets on line for us.

The beautiful garden and nice swimming pool. The private cottage was also really nice.In the evening they brought a jiko to warm the house a bit. Although it wasn’t very cold it gave us very cosy moments.

The staff were absolutely amazing - Jeremy in particular was so kind and helpful to us, and made us feel right at home!

Water in the bathroom was a bit on and off - the cold tap wouldn't work in the shower.

    9ColinPosted on: 12-16-2024

The Drexel House is located in a very quiet area surrounded by trees and birds, with a nice lawn and clean main lodge with surrounding cabins. Very comfortable with a pool! Jeremy and his team of staff were the highlight - making us feel very welcome and attending to all our requests. Good value too.

Nothing much- the short road in from the main is rough, worth noting.

    10LucyPosted on: 12-16-2024

Drexel House was very welcoming and its location in Karen is great - an oasis of calm in a busy city. As soon as you enter the gates, the noise of the city seems far away, and you feel relaxed and peaceful. The gardens are wonderful and we enjoyed sitting outside for breakfast. The breakfast options were great, and the team was very helpful in preparing snacks for us when we arrived late at night. Jeremy is super helpful, proactive and friendly, and made our stay very comfortable. We left a personal item behind in our room, and he was very solicitous in helping us retrieve it. We will definitely come back when we are next in Nairobi.
