Cons -
- Unfortunately, my overall experience was severely affected by a very poor interaction with a front-desk staff member.I went out one evening and my phone was stolen. Returning to the hotel in that state was extremely distressing. I arrived at the front desk shaken and vulnerable, simply looking for basic help to navigate the situation. Instead of support, I was met with a cold, dismissive, and rude attitude from one of women on duty, who appeared to be a senior staff member or manager.Despite clearly explaining that my phone had been stolen, the staff member refused to assist me in making a brief call to my family to let them know I was safe. I was told it was “hotel policy” and that I would need to leave the hotel to find help elsewhere. At no point was there empathy, concern, or any effort to assist a guest in obvious distress.Being stranded in a city without a phone is stressful enough. Being treated with indifference and meanness by a hotel staff in that moment made the situation far worse. A hotel should be a place of safety and support, especially when a guest is vulnerable. Sadly, this experience left me feeling abandoned and deeply disappointed.
- Showerhead was too harsh (felt like being hit with needles of water) and R 2000+ is simply too expensive for one night's stay.
- The basin was blocked and despite reporting it, nothing was done to rectify it. The extractor in the bathroom was not working and also nothing done to repair it after reporting it. There was an unpleasant odour in the room from the time we entered it, probably due to the bathroom extractor not working.

The location
The bed is uncomfortable, linen is old and there are no carpets on the bedside
Great hotel, best location for my travel purpose
Shower gel bottle was empty. It means house keeping didn’t check and refilled. On my arrival a cockroach was walking on the toilet door… an occasional fumigation is needed. Toilet door handle was loose, could dislocate anytime.
Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Very Noisy at night.
Protea Hotel Mafikeng never disappoints. Great service. Professional staff and the facilities have always been excellent. Rooms…great quality. Food…good ??
Very clean, friendly honest staff, I forgot my laptop at the restaurant and staff gave me a telephone callto make me aware and then they took effort to bring it to my room.
Receptionist (Sibongile) was very welcoming and made sure we get rooms as soon as we arrived. She was extremely helpful with a bubbly personality.
Toilet flushing handle had to consciously lifted up to not let the water keeps on dripping.
Cleanliness, staff friendliness and perfect location
All rooms non smoking
The rooms were very clean, cleanliness stands out for me. The service was good with pleasant staff, from reception to the restaurant. The bedding was amazing.
Location and look and feel
Pricing point for room without breakfast too high
Friendly staffLocationThe decor with history of Mahikeng
Grass area by pool need some attention
I liked the spacious and clean room. The service was also excellent.
The room was a bit stuffy.
The very friendly staff, always ready when available and service from the is great. They really made us feel welcome and did their best to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
The food was very poor at the hotel. We ordered a sea good plater and it tasted horribly and for the price it was lacking very badly, it didn't look appetising at all. Also, the TV was showing very poor picture quality, as well as the area in which the hotel.os situated needs to be improved upon.
Comfort on the rooms
Pool size and Breakfast
Liked evening staff, waiters nice. Room clean. Staff helped with bags. Ironing lady friendly
Property has declined a little in terms of upkeep and standards. Pillowcase off-white, shower door going off the rail, basin draining slowly, cleaning staff not friendly, food quality also has deteriorated. Security personnel at the gate could also be friendlier
The service was excellent. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Everything I needed was available.
The bathtub is very old and didn't look too clean. The towels are very old and definitely not soft. The tea must come with biscuits
I appreciate the friendly staff you have from all levels including the car wash sfaff , garden service guys. Please I allow me to applaud the ladies that prepare the room every morning, they were doing a good work for me. We had a relaxing stay, quit place I must say. Thanks very much!
The whole facility is good across . And The hotel is on the right position for the tourist.
